BiteCode_dev··on Hackers influence ChatGPT and Gemini to direct users to scam centers
It worked for google and facebook. Oh wait...
BiteCode_dev··on Tokens too cheap to meter
postgres in asic however...
BiteCode_dev··on Claude Code reads AGENTS.md only when telemetry is on [fixed]
Anyway, my claude.md contains only this:

@agents.md

BiteCode_dev··on OpenAI is well positioned to fast-follow Jev
The generalist aspect of jev is what is good about it. Old classifiers tended to be specialized, not good at ambiquity or limited.

LLM were used as classifiers because they solved that.

Jev have the flexibility of LLM and the perf and api of classifiers.

BiteCode_dev··on Pentagon says overreliance on AI contributed to missile strike on Iran school
Mandatory intel quote:

> A computer can never be held accountable, therefore a computer must never make a management decision

Obsolete today. What we need is reminding ourselves that we should held accountable the people behind the computer. There is always one in the chain, sometimes a CEO.

BiteCode_dev··on Xcode 27.1 Beta Release Notes
It is exotic, and bring only a little to the table for a stiff price increase.
BiteCode_dev··on Lucasart's Afterlife
Fun game, but very hard, and teaches you the danger of debt quite early in life.

But the 2 advisers were so funny!

BiteCode_dev··on The Google Play app review process now regularly takes longer than a week
It's virtually the case, google and apple accounts require ID verification, which in turn can be requested by the gov in case of an investigation.
BiteCode_dev··on Chopping up books when they're physically too big
I agree this dichotomy exists and find it useful to ponder for balancing your life.

But there is another more specific one in your context: objects are to be respected vs objects are to be useful.

My mother takes a lot of care of her objects. Her stuff lasts for very long.

Mine don't, but my life is much easier than hers because I don't think twice about making something dirty or worn. It's not alive; it's meant to make my life easier, we built it for it.

Again there is a balance: go too far and you get bad ROI out of your object.

But books fall very much into that category for me. I write on them, cut pages, turn them into a mess. They get a wild life, and then I discard them.

They are not trophies or decoration. They are not sacred.

And yet I may buy the same one 5 times for many friends, or just because I messed one up.

BiteCode_dev··on Introducing System One Models and Jev
Thanks, much clearer that way. The speaker is unusually eloquent and to the point for a very nerdy demo, they should put that on their home page.
BiteCode_dev··on US confirms for first time it has deployed space weapons
I'd wager starlink is mostly military with the cover of civilian use case.
BiteCode_dev··on 25 years of mass surveillance is enough
> One of the many legacies of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11 is the government-wide shift from targeted surveillance—such as individual wiretaps or pen register/trap and trace orders—to mass surveillance techniques—such as tapping into the internet backbone or mass collection of telephone or internet metadata.

In other words, we gave the terrorists the victory by accepting being terrorized at the country level from a single act and destroying a lot of our freedom. Yeah us.

BiteCode_dev··on Make your first edit to OpenStreetMap
I recently made a app to privately share places to eat with friends and got to use osm data extensively.

It's extremely dev friendly, they have a daily planetary diff you can download and just update your local copy.

A lot of data is missing or is obsolete in the south of France, so I created an account to contribute.

It got banned as spam, so I contacted them to ask what was wrong. A human answered in the following hour and they restored my access immediatly.

They have a better dev experience and support than google.

BiteCode_dev··on Claude is only available to people over 18 years
Teens don't pay for tokens.
BiteCode_dev··on Pystebin: Executable Pastebin for Python in the Browser
Now that pyodide is mature, we can test a single snippet from Python 3.9 to 3.14 in a web page, it's quite handy.

There are other projects like this, some with full notebooks capabilities. This one is more oriented towards snippet sharing like jsfiddle.

It has a virtual file system, so you actually can use sqlite!

It also means in the future, one could add multiple module supports, and pip install (albeit with a proxy) and numpy support.

BiteCode_dev··on Xiaomi: New CPU matches Apple cores single threaded, much faster multithreaded
After xkeyscore and prism, it would be naive to say otherwise.

They are backdoors, with not even very good plausible deniability.

It's so on the nose it's comical.

BiteCode_dev··on Xiaomi: New CPU matches Apple cores single threaded, much faster multithreaded
There are already American backdoors on intel and AMD chips everywhere, we call them ME and PSP. Switching to chinese tech won't make it worse.

Now, if the EU would start make to make chips that have no subsystem to screw me over, that would be something.

BiteCode_dev··on Flutter 3.47
Very happy that it's still maintain, because that's the only real framework that allow an easy dev for a decently fast app with one code base that works on linux, windows, mac, ios and android at once.

It's super nice.

BiteCode_dev··on uBlock Origin is giving up the fight to keep ads off Facebook
It's way worse than that, it's an attack to the entire society.

The vast majority of ads lie; therefore, they are actively harmful. They create a situation where being surrounded by false things is normal. They promote the improvement of tools to make deception and tracking better and better.

On top of that, they install evil incentives for the medias, the news, and business models, influencing consumption, public options and opinions.

Finally, they concentrate power in those who already have enough money to pay for ads. You may have the better product, but a big player with better PR will win.

Ads are one of our most destructive creations. It's much, much more dangerous than it looks.

BiteCode_dev··on Mark Zuckerberg attacks 'closed' AI rivals as Meta returns to open models
I read this comment in a same way I read "Microsoft in not that bad" comments in 2020.

This is why bad people keep inheriting the earth. We keep forgiving them and they keep doing their crap.

BiteCode_dev··on The UK's war on anonymity has come to America
Since 9/11, the war on anonymity was always strong in the US.
BiteCode_dev··on My server is a phone now
Yeah I first read it as he turned his server into a calling device.
BiteCode_dev··on Melatonin impairs morning cognition in healthy young adults (2023)
Surprisingly, one thing that tremendously helped my sleep quality, and several persons around is wim hof breathing.

I used to do it in the morning, and my brother recommanded I'd switch to just before sleep.

The difference is stark in effects, and you fall asleep like a baby even when stressed, using red light, with heat waves, etc...

Given it's free and don't have the side effects of regular melatonin supplement, I would encourage every one to give it at least a one week trial.

BiteCode_dev··on 2027 memory capacity is reportedly sold out
I though buying a framework was neat, but now in this economy, it's a necessity.
BiteCode_dev··on Show HN: Wyzer Programming Language
> What's the elevator pitch, one more time?" One ownership rule for memory, threads, and networks. No garbage collector, no complex borrow checker, and no network errors.

Should be the header.

BiteCode_dev··on An AI model from Meta also hacked another company during testing
Interesting how many accidents with plausible deniability all those companies with a horse in the cybersecurity race had occured lately.

Tin foil hat me wants to call for "capability demo for at worse the cheap price of an out-of-court settlement".

BiteCode_dev··on Xbox goes down. You can't play games you own on disc
Or for cheaper, you can sail the high sea. You build a collection of music, movies and games that will last you a lifetime for free. Then you can spend the saved money on supporting artists you like, studios you respect or buy a locked on guilty pleasure once in a while.

No reason to play by the rules if decency is not in the picture anymore.

BiteCode_dev··on Why the future is local app
I always wanted to do local and offline first app with optional sync, but the difference in amount of work is just stagering.

Now with LLM to do the boiler plate of event logs, healing, retries and testing all that, it's finally reasonable for a side projet.

And the result is great, the UI is reactive, it works in malls with bad signal, you get a no account experience almost for free...

I do all my apps like that now.

BiteCode_dev··on Kill The Cookie Banner
A child can still access knives if the parents don't care.
BiteCode_dev··on Some more things about Django I've been enjoying
Also, they may be serving static files through Django. Otherwise, it's really, really low.
