BewareTheYiga··on Show HN: Voiden – a free, offline, Git-native API Client
I'm curious to give this a spin and see how it compares against Bruno (https://www.usebruno.com) --> not affiliated
BewareTheYiga··on DuckLake is an integrated data lake and catalog format
I am a huge fan of what they are doing, particularly putting local compute front and center. However for “BigCorp”, it’s going to be an uphill battle. The incumbents are entrenched and many decision makers will make decisions based on non technical reasons (I.e did my sales exec get me to the F1 Grand Prix).

BewareTheYiga··on Ty: A fast Python type checker and language server
I've only used Pylance standard type checking in vscode. I have not used pyright as a stand alone package.
BewareTheYiga··on Ty: A fast Python type checker and language server
For pre-alpha software it's working fantastic for my project. I thought I type annotated it well, but Ty had quite a lot of feedback for me. Great job and I can't wait until this is released.
BewareTheYiga··on Mathematical Methods for Physics [pdf]
Nice! This will make a good companion to Arfken & Weber
BewareTheYiga··on Switching from Pyenv to Uv
I can't say enough good things about UV. It has simplified and accelerated my python and Jupyter projects. I even run it in my pipelines.
BewareTheYiga··on Ask HN: How do you use AI for software engineering?
I find the paid version of ChatGPT to be an effective pair programmer with me. From ideas to initial scaffolding to get my thinking straight about outcomes. I write mostly Python, and I find it great at typing my functions and writing docstrings. I also write alot of infrastructure code for the AWS Cloud, and I find ChatGPT better at that than Code Whisperer/Q, but I expect in the AWS context it will catch up.
BewareTheYiga··on JetBrains Mono Typeface
I love this font, but I am currently giving Commit Mono (https://commitmono.com/) a spin. JetBrains did a great job.
BewareTheYiga··on Ask HN: What does performance management look like at your company?
I worked for a big enterprise type company. Our performance management process was predictably broken like most BigCorp companies processes are. We had cascading goals from the CEO down to the team manger level, with numerous layers in between. These goals were not data driven in any way. Our performance process was heavily biased towards the quarter prior to the annual review -- so don't put any points on the board until the 4th quarter, that's when they'll count for the most. Common saying -- wins cover up sins.

As a manager of a team, I tried to institute OKR's into the process for my team at minimum. I found that technique partially successful -- meaning successful for me and my team but limited in that other teams in my department wouldn't adopt them. Too much work they said.
