Bellend··on Windows 11 KB5023778 update adds promotions to the Start menu
I'm the same but I don't use PiHole. (I am in UK. Does geography matter?). If I seen ads in my windows start menu, I'd suspect I have a cracked windows copy with a 3rd party spamming me. It's literally that far fetched to me. I always use Pro though as well...
Bellend··on Windows 11 KB5023778 update adds promotions to the Start menu
Serious question, unless you are some kind of business, does anyone fear the EULA for anything software?
Bellend··on How to start a React Project in 2023
What about your developers though? Our company pays for 5 days a week 8 hours a day of talented humans in a medium team. I can throw compute for 1/10000th that.

A 56 module Angular 15 codebase `npm start` takes 10 seconds, and compiles after change faster than a browser refresh. The build takes 67 seconds.

What scale up are you talking about so that I know in the future what to look out for?

Bellend··on How to start a React Project in 2023
I still love it, after 6 years I don't really know what problem it isn't solving and I mean 10 versions later! Also keep it to yourself but RXJS, my old hatred is now responsible for some of the best code I have ever written as far as being proud is concerned.
Bellend··on Mostly adequate guide to FP (in JavaScript)
todo app has always been the least inspiring demo that has ever existed.

Are there any wasm demos (not necessarily source code) to try that would blow my mind? Genuinely interested. Maybe I have seen dozens and it's not obvious.

Bellend··on UK to invest £900M in supercomputer in bid to build own 'BritGPT'
The country runs on old people voting to "level up" and "build back better". 2-3 word slogans so hearing "Quantum" and "AI" during the budget today is just bravo.
Bellend··on Pelé has died
He's a football player that kicked about a bit of leather and had an excellent life thus.
Bellend··on Show HN: I 3D scanned the interior of the Great Pyramid at Giza
I really really enjoyed this and the information. Thank you so much for putting the time in to make it. I doubt I will ever see the Pyramids but I always wanted to and this was the closest I will likely get. My mind is blown by the whole topic.
Bellend··on PayPal restores to its TOS $2,500 charge for any post they don't like
I used to use paypal for everything but it occurred to me that I haven't used it since 2018. What niche does it support that direct payments don't? When I think of paypal, I think of delays.
Bellend··on State of CSS
I like how you need a mac to test safari and how the ios animated address bar destroys any easy layout for applications.
Bellend··on It’s painful how hellbent Mark Zuckerberg is on convincing us that VR is a thing
Reminds me of Elon Musk. I think it's a new category where a handful of people announce vapourware and billions flood in to back it with money but none of it exists in reality.
Bellend··on Ask HN: Why are JavaScript dependencies so messy?
Why doesn't Javascript have a standard library? As in, why has one never been made and shipped with the browser?
Bellend··on USB kills off SuperSpeed branding
But why are you defending it with novel solutions and colour grading schemes for something which could simply not be named the same thing because it isn't the same thing?
Bellend··on USB kills off SuperSpeed branding
This made me laugh and brought me to "Unknown Serial Bus"
Bellend··on USB kills off SuperSpeed branding
Assuming you know she needs green and orange rings from the device she bought on amazon last week?
Bellend··on USB kills off SuperSpeed branding
You are moving the format from words to colour as a solution? I need a USB cable Bellend... "Oh, what color?".
Bellend··on USB kills off SuperSpeed branding
USB-rainbow? It's literally not USB. I am USB-#ff33ff. How is it Universal?
Bellend··on USB kills off SuperSpeed branding
No in my view. USB should be USB. That rectangle thing you poke into a port somewhere. Not just on chargers, motherboards or literally aircraft and cars.

If it's not that. Call it something else. LEET, PHAT, BIGPORT.

I really don't understand. Universal Serial Bus... in 10 different formats make's it no longer universal.

Bellend··on Meta announces hiring freeze, warns employees of restructuring
I have a Quest 2 and It's sitting inside a box behind the PC inside a Nike shoebox and when I try to use it, I need to basically go through a whole process all over again. A factory reset as it were because something to do with facebook account wasn't needed... but then it was needed so i made a fake account... something to do with I don't need facebook anymore... something to do with a meta account.... something to do with I needed to switch on dev mode to stop it annoying me about guardian when I want to use it on the sofa... something to do with installing some kind of app on my phone to sync to it to make it work... something about my occulus dev account is invalid... something about....

I can't use the device.

If I dig into the box, and drag it out, I need to deal with all of this stuff. I want to play for example Superhot, but I have no idea how to even reinstall or even if I need to reinstall because I need to login with something above "all over again".

Fucking trash.

The "Metaverse" is just a bad joke regardless if it worked perfectly, but all of this crud means that I can't even be bothered picking up the actual device.

Bellend··on The new wave of JavaScript web frameworks
Not sure I follow this? Lit seems to be hanging on by it's fingertips? It's official starter's dependencies is (was very recently)? painfully outdated. Angular continues to evolve with what seems to be many more people working on it and a budget.
Bellend··on 90s Cursor Effects
I wanted to slice it big time but I didn't know what logo??
Bellend··on Copilot: Realtime programming language and runtime verification framework

Bellend··on TypeScript is terrible for library developers
"I don't know how to make my library typesafe so everyone else is the problem".

It's a fucking boring topic that has been done to death since 2012. Get this deleted guys.

Bellend··on Ask HN: Which book are you reading, since when?
"Nelson's Trafalgar: The Battle That Changed the World" by Roy A. Adkins.

I had recently went on the boat the "RRS Discovery" and on the same day "HMS Unicorn" both in Dundee and it got me amazed by the Age of Sail.

The people of those days were made of strong stuff!

I hope to go and see "HMS Victory" of Lord Nelson fame at the end of the year because of that book.

Always looking out for new reading material so love these threads.

Bellend··on Cheap junk flooding Amazon has brand names like MOFFBUZW
I am the same as you. Although the only difference is:

1. Amazon is the never the cheapest. 2. Their search is absolutely garbage and I can't use it. I'd need to go elsewhere, find a specific product, then search to compare.

I just logged into Amazon and the last thing I bought was 2021 "Leuko Tape" for hiking since it was the only seller that had it at a reasonable price.

I am genuinely always amazed by the responses on HackerNews. It might be because amazon.com is just cheaper in general than amazon.co.uk?

Bellend··on The golden age of the aging actor
That is really interesting. In my town, to see Jurassic World tomorrow (Wed) at 20:30 in the UK is £13 per adult. This includes a mostly empty cinema, a terrible seat, 10-20 minutes of adverts for viewing start time and £6 for a large pepsi max.

So minus the pepsi, it is $31.09USD for 2 adults.

Even if I reached out to my admittedly few dozen facebook family from 16-90 year old and said I sorted all them out for $1 a film. No one would go. I mean maybe 1-2 people would go but even then I'd be mind blown.

Bellend··on Quitting Twitter? What People Say About Life After Social Media
Can anyone explain why there is a need to declare this and then talk about it? Are we at a point where it is considered similar to an alcoholic leaving the drink and following what happened next? I used to play games and now I don't. I used to watch film and now I don't. I had a facebook account once and now I don't. Isn't this mundane as fuck?
Bellend··on Ask HN: What Happened to Reddit?
I'd argue mods as well. My account was OG and in a local subreddit after a local incident occurred, I suggested that the issue had made me reconsider my views on a subject. Pretty innocent. The mods banned me from the sub, when I replied why and gave a couple of paragraphs about how it's my local area and it would be quite upsetting to be banned over a non-offensive view, they responded with "F$£D OFF" and then my account was permabanned for "Spreading Hate or Violence".

I think I would have been able to goto the website and appeal, but I didn't really want to be part of it any more in the end. A year later, I don't miss it. I just consider it dead.

Bellend··on The Fifth Element to Return to Theaters to Celebrate Its 25th Anniversary
Can anyone enlighten me? I'd say before I gave up with Film, that Fifth Element was the deepest tripe. I can't say for sure, but I believe that after Terminator 2 and Jurassic park there was garbage for a few years, and the Fifth Element was one of the junctions that I took towards never watching a movie again.

Edit: Bit of an artistic flair on these responses. It was shit but it was French, it was shit but it was meant to be... etc

Bellend··on Improving the foundation of our falling sand simulator
This is really awesome!

Anyone remember Sony-J5 Mobile? I first seen falling sand there. Jason's version is a ultra fast version (and cool!).
