As a Dutch person, we were taught German in secondary school and Meer/See were the textbook example of false friends:

het meer - der See - the lake

de zee - das Meer - the sea

I don't remember being taught "die See" but I also dropped my German course after one year (which I now regret). Anyway, I always thought this was an interesting development in our languages.

I happened to check today and found that the dates are announced, so I booked a room in Brussels from Friday to Sunday. Last year was my first time and I loved it. Looking forward to visit again, and maybe I'll meet with some of you too!

Are you going this edition?

Very cool. I saw Jurassic Park in the cinema and remember thinking that the Unix system that they used was some Hollywood fancy, but I learned much later that it was actually a prototype of a gui [0]. It appears that Spielberg was well-connected to tech people at the time.

I made a zero-copy video recorder in C for Linux, I barely know anything about C, pointers or vulkan at all. LLM's are improving rapidly.
