BSDobelix··on OpenBSD Developers Reject Uutils Coreutils
Thanks for proofing me right.

I said don't be so sensible, don't take everything as a personal attack.

Your conclusion:

>Hopefully (for you) your next victim gets their feelings hurt. You got to get that dopamine hit somewhere

See why it's not good to have people like You in a project?

BSDobelix··on OpenBSD Developers Reject Uutils Coreutils
>You do realise that people are complex and are unlikely to agree with Theo on everything?

No problem go somewhere else, or bring a good point, no one said you have to agree with Theo on everything.

>Because actually most people don’t want to be around conflict.

That's not a conflict, you are simply to soft and think everything is an attack on you.

>And believe me when I say I’ve written and tested a lot of software for OpenBSD over the last 2 decades.

Ehh that's ok i guess?

>So this is why I say there’s very real risk of rudeness costing projects valuable contributions.

Sometimes risks have to be taken, it's also funny that it's always people who are "potential" contributors but are in fact never the ones who contribute anything.

BSDobelix··on OpenBSD Developers Reject Uutils Coreutils
OpenBSD is still here, with Theo.

Letting toxic one-sided-Snowflakes into your Project is "Shitting you Bed".

>What I’m saying is that Theo is more generally rude.

Nice, that means if he's doing stupid stuff i can be rude too without having to worry that a CoC or even worse a HR department threatens me to resign or publicly state what a horrible person i am.

BSDobelix··on OpenBSD Developers Reject Uutils Coreutils
>You don’t need to be rude to be a project shield.

But you can, it's also a really good way to shy away "over-sensible" individuals, if you think that was rude.....well ;)

>Linux went through this evolution with Linus Torvalds

Not he's still the old one, just without "retro abortion"

BSDobelix··on OpenBSD Developers Reject Uutils Coreutils
44 CVE's : https://corrode.dev/blog/bugs-rust-wont-catch/

Also stuff like: "Set Permissions at Creation Time, Not After"

BSDobelix··on OpenBSD Developers Reject Uutils Coreutils
>But his communication skills isn’t one of them.

It's the projects shield, and pretty good one at that ;)

BSDobelix··on Saving another 100TB of RAM
Exactly, that`s why i refuse to call 99.9% of "software engineers" engineers. Imagine you optimize a aircraft turbine 1%....man you get to drink a pool of champagne with the highest ceo's and aircraft carriers try to buy that turbine as fast as possible.

But with software and a install base of some millions 1% optimization is seen as wasteful, its like software slop is acceptable since forever because hardware gets faster, and electricity is "green" anyway.

BSDobelix··on Research carried out using NetBSD
they get accepted or rejected, updating ports/packets would be a wonderful AI job, check newest version, update port, poudriere the thing, test it, make patch, send to bugtracker.

Maybe the AI can even check "funny" upstream commits like it happens with npm/crate and block that stuff.

But FreeBSD ports is incredible up to date so there should be no flood of patches anyhow.

BSDobelix··on Research carried out using NetBSD
I use FreeBSD on all my machines for everything sinc about 11 years GUI is I3/X11/AMD-Card everything works, but please test it yourself, it's like with linux, you just know what's not/is working if you use it daily for all your edge-cases (maybe your scanner, maybe your barcode-scanner your Bluetooth-Stuff your wireless etcetc)

Overall i really love FreeBSD for everything computing (Pi/Laptop/Workstation/Servers).

And the community is great...wanna make a port/src-patch?...just send it to the bug-tracker, no rituals needed ;)

>Really comes in handy to still have a couple of colonies near the equator.

>It's also better to have the massive amounts of emissions far away from your own population.

That's the dumbest comment i read since a long time, thanks.

BSDobelix··on How to Increase OpenBSDs Resilience to Power Outages
>If someone gave them a filesystem with the right license, ideas from 20+ years ago and a promise to maintain it on OpenBSD forever, I'm sure they'd take it.

They have the right to take NetBSD's UFS (with WAPBL), FreeBSD's (UFS with softupdate) or DragonFly's Hammer2.

Or give users the freedom to use ZFS (optionally) like NetBSD.

>When did you get the idea that we're trying to please anyone?

Ah, I see. Those footer flags and icons are there for ironic reasons, to poke fun at these ideas while also shining a critical spotlight on them? I see, that's the dark humor I like.

>sufficiently sanitized for them to put on their corporate website are also not who we want.

I'm pretty sure it's possible in Silicon Valley, but only for one month of the year. It's just performative AF.

But at least you split the Ukrainian in half and exchange it with the US one, again....that's the really dark humor i like.

>Yeah, and it’s an awful attitude.

I had a conversation with some 'educated' people about the war in Ukraine. After about ten minutes, I told them if we please can stop and if we could change the topic.

They were incredibly uneducated, I would even say disinterested in the history as we ~know it.

They saw everything in black and white, with no shades of grey.

Long story short, I told them to please educate themselves on what happened from 2013/14 until today and make their own observations (just so they can sprinkle a little grey to their world view, NOT change it just add some nuances to it).

Their answer? No time, also not that interested.

I was a little bit sad to say at least.

Maybe has something todo with that:

3. Cognitive consequences:

The difference lies in how the information is encountered. Search-based learning requires effort. Users must sift through multiple sources, evaluate relevance, and integrate partial information into a coherent whole. These activities promote deeper cognitive processing.

Why not research it yourself instead of asking others? Am I the only one who thinks this is becoming increasingly common?

Haha that's a good one, shaky foundation.
BSDobelix··on Germany set to restrict its Freedom of Information Act
True:

>Despite well-documented violations of international law violations in Gaza, Germany continues to authorize arms exports to Israel.

https://www.ecchr.eu/en/case/no-german-weapons-to-israel/

Also, Germany will not arrest Bibi, even if the ICC orders his arrest. That's how you know Germany is not behind the ICC and does not respect an international court unless it benefits them. This perfectly represents the German government's understanding of what a free, law-abiding, and open democracy should be, and it is directly reflected in the EU.

BSDobelix··on Germany set to restrict its Freedom of Information Act
Shame on you! You turning it upside down, Germany think of them self as the worst war criminal ever (and forever) and that's is why the dont allow themself to ever criticize Israel whatever they do.

BSDobelix··on Germany set to restrict its Freedom of Information Act
I dont think so, they want to repeat it, security-force should be implemented like in east-Germany, capitalism like in west-Germany and the wall is now in the Ukraine build with dead bodies instead of stone.
BSDobelix··on EU Parliament greenlights Chat Control 1.0
I'm not sure what you try to achieve:

>For example, Poland was hit with massive daily fines when it was embroiled in a dispute over rule of law measures, as well as a separate case linked to environmental permits at a coal mine on the Czech border.

>The Commission is allowed to take these fines out of that country’s EU budget allocation, preventing governments from simply refusing to pay up.

BSDobelix··on EU Parliament greenlights Chat Control 1.0
In Chatcontrol 2.0 not this one:

>*EU politicians exempt themselves from this surveillance under "professional secrecy" rules. They get privacy. You and your family do not.

https://8bitsecurity.com/posts/chat-control-2-0-%E2%80%93-ho...

BSDobelix··on EU Parliament greenlights Chat Control 1.0
>I won't use the term "illegal", as the question of legality becomes moot when punishment can be factored in as a cost of doing business.

Woah, that's such a good, on point statement. From Boing, FightClub (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0137523/quotes/?item=qt0479130) to Cambridge Analytica (Meta) and Pegasus as a small sample ;)

BSDobelix··on EU Parliament greenlights Chat Control 1.0
Your a dreamer, no one in that position will ever get arrested (in the West) slap on the hand, 100M and the thing is forgotten.
BSDobelix··on EU Parliament greenlights Chat Control 1.0
But now you have governmental overreach and legalized spying on European Citizens by (mostly) US Companies, so i would say that Law is truly binary bad.

Also how the Law was forced is extremely bad.

But hey it's once more proof that the EU is not a democratically spirited institution.

Oh man, you speak to my heart!

I always read stuff like this:

-Why self-host? Just use AWS. What, you run your own PostgreSQL instance on real metal at home?

-Just use Linux. Linux, SystemD, and Docker have won. Why care about other operating systems?

-You have your own self-hosted email server, why? Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo will put your emails into spam. (Hint: They won't if your server is correctly set up. But you're just interested in outsourcing the service and have zero interest in how "modern" email works.)

Look, I get it. Not everyone wants to self-host. But actively being against self-hosting or the administration of systems, or not trying stuff like BSD/VMS or, hear me out, MVS-TK5 is the opposite of a hacker spirit, today not interested in hosting tomorrow programming.
