Aweorih··on Ask HN: Has anybody shipped a web app at scale with 1 DB per account?
Or you have a connection pool for every user, which is basically the same except that you must do some mapping by yourself and you have more connection pools and open connections.
Aweorih··on Coming to Chrome: a new way to use tabs
Something like a group collapse feature would be nice here
Aweorih··on Ask HN: What are you learning?
Game development with the unreal engine in combination with 3D modelling in blender. I'd also like to learn some c++ when I'm more familiar with UE. While using blender I discovered that you can script there with python which was also on my long todo list. It's a bit slow since so much at once after work but still a lot of fun. I began to learn this because some friends and I wanted to make a car racing game.
Aweorih··on Ask HN: What happens next after a successful lockdown?
I don't know the names just that there are 2 variants. One which is cheap and one which is expensive. The cheap one does not protect you but shall protect others if you've got the virus. The expensive one shall protect you but you cannot wear it for long because it's hard to breath with it. That's what was said in germany from official site a week ago or so. May be outdated now. I Think they also said that you can get infected through eyes.. So a mask MAY not be enough at all
Aweorih··on Which of these Amazon Prime purchases are real?
I saw a documentation a while ago on yt where a German family bought a smartphone over Amazon, which was from China (not sure anymore if they knew at that moment). It exploded then some time later while charging.. they said that Amazon also did not much care and it took a while until it was removed.

I can also say that the company where I work at, had already multiple times problems with Amazon. True they are maybe a bit of a different kind but I think that dollars is the most important thing for them. Even if you have to fk with customers or third party sellers in one or the other way. That's also why I only buy at Amazon if it's really necessary and it's from a big company, like Nintendo or so.

There's also now the law in Germany (or soon) which prohibits the destroying of brand new stuff just because it did not sell. That happened mainly (I'd say) because of Amazon where it went public that 2 trucks left a single warehouse on average per day, filled with only that kind of products

Aweorih··on Google to Samsung: Stop messing with Linux kernel code. It's hurting Android
At least can you disable facebook, Bixby sadly not..
Aweorih··on Ask HN: What interesting problems are you working on?
Currently working on 2 projects which would solve problems for me:

- a jdbc driver for interacting with google sheets

- a cross OS application which lets you share easily data

The first one is almost done and requires mostly documentation and some clean-up. It supports at the moment simple SQL queries like select * from, insert into foo() Values () and an update where I currently not remember the syntax. It also has already a Datagrip integration.

The second project shall work wireless and with minimal setup. The original idea was that devices search each other in the local network (via broadcast) and connect then. Further ideas which rised while development where:

- play sound on another device (which I initially thought would be super easy but seems like it is not)

- provide a possibility to define outside applications (like you provide a configuration file how I communicate with your application and this lets you show information on other devices)

- Not just device-to-device but also something like groups

- messaging with other devices

- more communication possibilites, ie via (outside) IP or Wi-Fi direct

There where 3 dates for buying a ticket. For me it was no problem as the webpage for buying did not have the usual problems like being down when sale started. You have to be there in time though

Aweorih··on Berlin Brandenburg: The airport with half a million faults
The problem is that one precondition for the opening of the new airport BER, is that the old airports Tegel and Schönefeld shall be closed. But BER is probably not large enough to handle the traffic of those both..
Aweorih··on How Many Type Parameters Can a Java Method Have?
> Nonetheless, if I was king, I'd consider explicitly banning any class or method from having more than 255 type parameters.

As he says there is probably no use case where you need so many and the additional overhead of time to implement this is (in my eyes) a bit wasted. But he can be actually the king by contributing to the openJDK project.

Aweorih··on Ask HN: Best Command-Line Applications?
> such as getting an external IP address of a host from the command-line.

What about using `ping host`? This also prints the ip

Aweorih··on Ask HN: What's the hardest problem you've ever solved?
A guy from the device developers and me talked with them about it. We argued that it's probably far easier and faster to fix the problems in the device code than to make some workarounds on server side. I think the thing that it's faster and we were 2 convinced them since I tried it with the easier part already before. On other parts we decided to not process the data.
Aweorih··on Ask HN: What's the hardest problem you've ever solved?
My company is building a device which collects data from a car while you drive. We wanted to group those in "trips" on a very simple logic. If the device sends any data for the first time, start a trip and if there's none for more than 5 minutes, close the last trip. Problem was that the source of the time is coming from the device which had a lot of bugs (e.g. time was in future, time is from year 1970, time is not in order...). Management also decided that it's too hard to fix them on the device. At the end it took me 3 full weeks +/- to make it work. At the end I was able to convince the management that some bugs were too serious and required fixing

Aweorih··on Java’s new garbage collector promises low pause times on multi-terabyte heaps
I think I read somewhere, that the heaps of ecommerce website applications can be very huge, because of the loaded strings. I think that was in the time of the java update (9?) where reduced string size was added
Aweorih··on Bitcoin.org removes “fast” and “low fees” from Bitcoin description page
I think its rather like the owner gives the storage to people for some money and from thereon it's your storage. You can keep and use it or sell it to whatever value you (and probably the market) thinks it is worth for.
Aweorih··on Why PS4 downloads are so slow
I can't remember that I ever had the problem of not having the right driver since windows 7 or so. Since Windows 10 drivers are also "automatically downloaded and installed through Windows Update" ("for many devices").
Aweorih··on DeepMind and Blizzard to release StarCraft II as an AI research environment
I think they are doing it to stay "warm". E.g. if something happens that the fingers can react quick and you don't need a "warmup" time.
Aweorih··on DeepMind and Blizzard to release StarCraft II as an AI research environment
High apm is required, yes. But most people push it by pushing it through spamming 1-2-3 (groups of your army). There was a pro player who didnt do it and he was around +- 70 APM.
Aweorih··on A Single Div
I would compare it like this: C is extremely fast php which is built on C is not so fast So css is like C, built on the internal stuff so pretty much no overhead or anything. Javascript animations are like php, built on top of css with just manipulation of the css/dom structure.
Aweorih··on Ask HN: Examples of reliable software you enjoy using
I'm using PHPStorm and wanted to give Netbeans a try since my coworker liked it alot and I wanted to try it out anyways. Well opened it and tried to open a project folder (on windows), while navigating through the directories I accidentally clicked on network and it instantly frooze. Waited for like at least 10 seconds nothing happened. Closed it, never opened again...
