software engineer c/c++/java/nodejs
currently building a system which leverages evolution to capture as a genome any song/sound/time-series which can then be very efficiently transported/analyzed/re-designed/bred - WebGL / web audio API / node.js

A country where the people who by necessity must work to survive, draws from a much wider percentage of the populace those who have the ability to engender an entrepreneur culture... It's very easy in the USA to live off free government dole and so that enormous portion of the populace is effectively unmotivated to work at anything.... and I quote : "The only way anyone can have a right to something that has to be produced is to force someone else to produce it for him. The more things are provided as rights, the less the recipients have to work and the more others have to carry their load."
I'm only an occasional reddit user so have not looked for such clients yet my guess is most heavy users are already using such tricks as it's unbearable to put up with the magnitude of advertising on reddit
Note to reddit: rethink your advertising strategy as it's unforgiving to be pummeled by ads incessantly
Sounds like it's high time fundamental aspects of a given game morph slightly during gameplay... fabric of reality remains unknowable so this should be reflected in games
NYC back in early 2000's had a West Nile Virus scare so gov did extensive aerial spraying of pesticides for many months ... that was the end of mosquitoes... gov publicized the nighttime spraying back then, not today yet the city continues to be mosquito free ... my guess is the pesticides they use has contributed to the abject loss of most insect species not just in the city but in upstate NY as well ... the NYC watershed covers several hundred miles into upstate where insects are simply absent today in comparison to decades ago
It is no coincidence that once china brutally overtook power over Tibet it soon afterward deverted tibetian rivers to flow into china and away from their normal southernly trajectory
its well worth the effort to learn about the life of experimental chemist Alexander (Sasha) Shulgin who famously would design then create in his backyard lab hundreds of permutations of various molecules ... Sasha would take the creation and if it had potential would share with his wife and friends ... fascinating storyteller taboot
good side of current supply chain issues is this encourages hardware manufacturers to make the transition away from using domain specific computer chips and to instead rewrite that logic purely in software to get executed in today's super fast super efficient CPU/GPU ... decades ago it made sense to design hardware to do the compute yet today that strategy is more costly and risky ... and yes software is eating the world and where it isn't it will be so make this jump now
I decided to become a server developer as opposed to front end to avoid the js ecosystem meltdown... however I see server side tools like kubernetes have also become so ladened with exposing complexity we too find little time for actual creative development
watching a time lapse of a single biological cell develop for it's first few hours reminds me of the software tooling landscape... throbbing, twisting, shaking, bifurcating
Researchers from Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) successfully sent data down a custom multi-core fiber optic cable at a speed of 1.02 petabits per second over a distance of 51.7 km. That’s the equivalent of sending 127,500 GB of data every second, which, according to the researchers, is also enough capacity for over “10 million channels of 8K broadcasting per second.”
Credit must also go to mass purely for max profit agribusiness who just don't care and are too big to fight so responsibility to stuart falls to the enlightened citizens knowing government is toothless
Ah the wonders of teaching myself how to code on a commodore... I had the smaller one a generation prior to the c64 ... Yes peek N poke... as I remember it had 8 kilobytes of ram so creating a four page program with little storage allocations was about the limit before running out of memory... kids today are just missing out of those hardware brick walls
Needed is a suite of open source applications/processes ported to each cloud provider to directly compare on cost ... kicker is to exhibit best practices
I used Intuit online for about 10 years... at the beginning it was fantastic however year over year it just became worse until I had to abandon them and use a different online tax service... My returns are very straightforward and I did my own on paper prior to Intuit... I can only say Intuit seems to have intentionally made the flow of questions unwieldy over the years... almost as if they intentionally sabotaged their own business... so sad
My first comp sci job was a unix/Linux shop so I got an early start ... from time to time I use osx or windows only to maintain a grip as to their ease of use from a server side developer perspective and I must say getting over the hump of learning linux is effort well spent
This is the book which enabled me to code up a solution to parse an image to synthesize it's audio equivalent ... then to listen to the audio to synthesize it's equivalent output image ... job done when output image matched input image ... power of the complex plane
my approach is the opposite ... attack the most difficult aspect of the challenge first ... get this working using the normal divide and conquer approach ... this often requires totally different inputs and outputs since its the inner core ... then work outward solving related issues until you read the outermost inputs and outputs
to me its critical to nail the hardest part first since if that portion cannot be solved or needs a radical rethink it will often require entirely new surrounding logic
why stop with crustaceans ? trees have sentience too just look into how they respond to predation ... when under attack from say insects they launch a synthesis of molecules which attracts yet other species which feed on those insects ... do not limit the scope of precious life forms to those with similar awareness / feelings / response time frames similar to humans ... life is far more subtle than we can ever imagine at this early stage in human awareness
Just walk the side streets ... Find the old town ... there is a church in the old town with skull sculpture throughout... On a quiet single lane side street is an ancient church again with a skulls motif ... Naples has a unique vibe ... If you like it I suggest visiting Trapani once there walk towards the western point of the town which is the oldest part ... nice quiet restaurants only locals know incredible flavors
no body wants over population and urban squalor ... china should invest its new found wealth in continuing to depopulate ... its short term pain for long term gain
any information worker should at least try linux and cut over to only using linux asap ... sure I have tried all the various releases of Windows and OSX however linux just works especially if you are a developer who values ease of use and unlimited flexibility ... get a junker laptop which noone uses and teach yourself how to burn a linux OS onto a memory stick then boot from this to try out then install linux onto that box ... the first several days/weeks will be challenging however once you cut over and master the basics and become fluent this effort will be time well spent ... many linux distros are available though Ubuntu is a good onramp if not an excellent dailydriver ... and yes OSX is hot garbage
dark theme should not be pure black as for some including me its hard to view my eyes get an afterglow ... dark brown is much better ... take inspiration from the dark theme of stackoverflow.com
This printer cartridge issue is creating a huge opportunity for some enterprising startup to produce a solid printer with quality cartridges ... I just hope this happens and they refuse to be bought out by HP or anyone else
Michael Mina is an immunologist, epidemiologist, and physician at Harvard and an expert on rapid paper based COVID testing ... Listen to his interview with Lex Fridman entitled
#146 – Michael Mina: Rapid Testing, Viruses, and the Engineering Mindset Lex Fridman Podcast
where Mina details what the tests do and how horribly corrupt the US gov has mismanaged rapid self testing
almost all software today is static ... whereas living organisms are constantly exposed to new challenges and are constantly learning to adapt and survive both as an individual and a species ... the developmental steps every individual grows through from infancy onward contributes to what some call embedded cognition ... inspiration from developmental biology as to this constantly changing morphology of not only the abstract capabilities but the physical implementation of the biological organism will influence new approaches to software architecture ... self healing software systems are a baby step in this direction
I am not discounting the premise of this post however in upstate new york I am seeing flocks of turkeys which I have never seen until recent years ... also bald eagles have reappeared in numbers again not seen until past 5 years or so ... this is partly due to the drop in game hunters as well as a fall off of farming with many abandoned farms and fallow acreages going to scrubs ... also due to the ban on DDT decades ago ... so certainly some type of birds are seeing a resurgence
Thinking about possible cat and mouse between such a solution and advertisement strategists would keeping your tactics hidden slow down countering by such advert vendors ?
