AtNightWeCode··on Livenerf: Has Opus 5.5 been nerfed yet?
Opus 5.5 was suppose to be faster but is does not seem to work at all in batch mode. Nothing completes.
AtNightWeCode··on Sonnet 5.5
Took forever to load this garbage site in both FF and Chrome. Sometimes I wonder if these corps really are corps trying to sell a product.
AtNightWeCode··on I don't want the details
I get triggered from these Linkedin bs type of articles. In the real world time and money is limited and everything gets prioritized. I worked at corps were MOST of the incidents reoccurred cause fixes was never prioritized. Cheaper to have people on call than to fix stuff.
AtNightWeCode··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
So garbage is greater than total garbage? Let me go back to the saying that somewhat right is still wrong.
AtNightWeCode··on Cloudflare Quick Tunnels
Cool but the obvious flaw with this is that CF leaks DNS-records. So bots will find these urls instantly. Not sure why they have not fixed that or if it is even possible to fix.
AtNightWeCode··on A heap overflow and SSO misconfiguration to compromise OpenAI internal repos
SSO and hardware sec keys. And the models are located in very few places. Few if any people have direct access to them. Then due to the size of the models you can detect and stop a theft just by monitoring the egress traffic.
AtNightWeCode··on Iranian banks' SSL certificates are being revoked due to OFAC sanctions
It would be simple today to abolish the use of CAs but it just a big cargo biz that makes money on nothing as usual based on peoples incompetence. For 99% of all sites today security would be handled better without CAs. People simply don't understand how it works.
AtNightWeCode··on Iranian banks' SSL certificates are being revoked due to OFAC sanctions
The whole point with a CA is that you have a neutral third party participant. Kinda broken no matter how you look at it. Especially in this case.
AtNightWeCode··on Iranian banks' SSL certificates are being revoked due to OFAC sanctions
CAs is the problem. Not who runs them...
AtNightWeCode··on I've operated petabyte-scale ClickHouse clusters for 5 years
It was created at Yandex, the biggest techcorp in Russia, by Alexey Milovidov among others. He is still the CTO there. So I will stay away. There are many good alternatives to pick.
AtNightWeCode··on I've operated petabyte-scale ClickHouse clusters for 5 years
ClickHouse I would say is more for analytics and data warehouse types of loads. So not a direct competitor to those tools except maybe for Pinot.

It is very easy to ingest data into CH. We connected exchange topics and it just worked with zero code.

But the thing with CH is that it is pretty much a Russian product so you should not use it for production anymore.

AtNightWeCode··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
We booted react native like 10 years ago and there is not much a web does not solve. We even did solve it for the desktop users anyway even before. A simple app as Shopify with mostly static content should not be any problem to build as a web.
AtNightWeCode··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
Google research from a decade ago that might as well been that their bot did not want to wait for pages to load. The performance difference between React native and a web wrapped in an app is pretty much zero today.
AtNightWeCode··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
Why on earth is Shopify not just a web wrapped in an app like most apps? I mean, they implement most of that stuff for the desktop anyway.
AtNightWeCode··on Tailwind Labs is joining Shopify
Off topic but. I never liked how tailwind looks but that font. Inter Variable. That is a new level of garbage.
AtNightWeCode··on Ask HN: Why were OpenAI, Claude, and Grok simultaneously down?
Cloudflare is my guess. They all use it. Maybe some bad DNS config that choked parts of their systems. Not necessarily CFs fault.
AtNightWeCode··on .name Termination
As I recall it. This was mostly a money scam that targeted private users with ads like "make sure to claim to your .name domain so no one else does it and use it to impersonate you". It was stupid from the beginning and never took off.
AtNightWeCode··on .name Termination
Things like this happens from time to time and yet people insists on using stupid TLD:s just because of "cool" suffixes.
AtNightWeCode··on Fastpotify
The problem with gangster music was a hack I believe. Spotify never admitted it but I have many friends that had that problem. I did not.
AtNightWeCode··on Fastpotify
I am a user since the beginning and had premium for almost as long. The state of the app is bad. Crash fest. They pretty much brags about that they slop code it. But was it better before? Let me give you a hall of fame of historical bugs/features.

1. Impossible to purge the play queue. Had to delete every track one by one. 2. Completely broke liked songs years after the feature was launched. 3. They broke offline mode like a billion times. Just download everything again. Especially annoying back in the days when mobile data was expensive. Still does not work like half of the time. 4. Changed to a yellow typeface! I am not even kidding. 5. Included some bittorrent like file sharing in the background.

AtNightWeCode··on Fastpotify
Did it really? I remember that Wimp used Adobe Air and Deezer used Flash.
AtNightWeCode··on Norway should buy OpenAI
It is like a running joke that Norway can buy anything. The oil fund makes more money than the oil for the state btw. So don't underestimate their financial skills.
AtNightWeCode··on DDoS against Norwegian government IT infrastructure – status
Many important services with problems. Ouch. My guess is that the root cause is misconfiguration rather than an attack.
AtNightWeCode··on Tailscale didn't stop the Hugging Face intrusion
Same bs as always. Just segregate the networks ffs.
AtNightWeCode··on China’s open-weights AI strategy is winning
China is not winning if there even is a winning outside of politics. China is still clearly copying stuff as always. The mote will never be about doing simple things. It is about swimming at the deep end of the pool. The simple stuff will be running on any device in future. Complicated stuff will be using more tokens than one can imagine today.
AtNightWeCode··on SpaceX bond worth 10% less than issue price – heading for junk bond status
Annoying but not much more. It kinda makes sense too if the index is suppose to reflect the corps. The way SpaceX is set up from a governance point of view is a nightmare though. Also, data centers in space is just stupid. Now it seems like they already abandon it and are going for some kind of AI satellites. Still stupid. I should probably take a hyperloop over to US and ask Elon about it, oh wait, that was also garbage.
AtNightWeCode··on TLS certificates for internal services done right
Don't do this. Public certs are for public services.
AtNightWeCode··on Fable 5 is Back
On the other side. What would happen if Anthropic did not communicate like they did and Fable was used to hack Pentagon? Dario would swing from a tree.
AtNightWeCode··on Claude Code is steganographically marking requests
Sounds to me more like a test. Put something into to the client and see what happens. If you really want to stop token sharing just ask Claude how to do it.
AtNightWeCode··on There are a few things that I look back on as my mistakes in the early days
Personally I think Unreal Tournament perfected the genre when it comes to multiplayer. Q1 was a lot of spamming of grenades and so on. Q2 was better. Still a lot of chaos. UT99 was also chaos but you could combine it with perfect moves and high precision shots. Great games all of them. I used to be an elite UT99 player but as the pace kept increasing along with my age my reaction time was simple not good enough anymore. Even if tactics compensated a lot those games are not like sneaking around in CS. I mostly played CTF. Good old times.
