AtNightWeCode··on AWS multiple services outage in us-east-1
Considering the history of east-1 it is fascinating that it still causes so many single point of failure incidents for large enterprises.
AtNightWeCode··on Daniel Kahneman opted for assisted suicide in Switzerland
I think you are bit wrong. Once someone close to you dies you remember them by their legacy. Also, you just have to laugh at some of the chaos these elderly cause. They call you in the middle of the night being lost somewhere and you have to guide em home. Or help the cops guide em home.

I am pro assisted suicide. Not sure about Switzerland but some countries allows it for young people with mental health problems. That I can't accept that.

AtNightWeCode··on Claude Sonnet 4.5
exactly, cost per token is higher but it also uses tokens like a chipmunk on steroids
AtNightWeCode··on Claude Sonnet 4.5
Sonnet is just so expensive comparing to other competitors. Have they fixed this?
AtNightWeCode··on Everything that's wrong with Google Search in one image
Historically. If you are logged in you get better results. I got no ads when logged in. Not logged in I got 8 ad links in total before the real site.
AtNightWeCode··on You did this with an AI and you do not understand what you're doing here
Typical Claude answer to not see the irony and whine about it.
AtNightWeCode··on You did this with an AI and you do not understand what you're doing here
Fun fact. I posted that post into Claude and asked if it was AI. Claude totally trashed the post.
AtNightWeCode··on Performance Improvements in .NET 10
I upgraded hundreds of projects. The docs with breaking changes are by version. For smaller solutions you can create a new solution and pull in the code and try to fix everything that breaks. There is also an upgrade tool that can work for smaller projects. But the fastest way for normal sized solutions is to update version by version up to the closest LTS. Then you can go LTS to LTS. .NET does also not only break in code, it breaks in behavior so you really want to test those changes in isolation.
AtNightWeCode··on Performance Improvements in .NET 10
Bs, basically, the docs about upgrading between frameworks and what works with what is actually pretty current and often disappears after some years. Especially anything about edge cases. Several upgrades also demands that you do the upgrade version by version. It is tedious work if you don't have a full understanding of the app. Nuget has also become a complete dependency hell. Today you often have to point out what to use to get your legacy apps to build with newer .NET versions. You can't just go with latest.
AtNightWeCode··on You too can run malware from NPM (I mean without consequences)
Pulling the source and compiling the package instead of pulling the package. Not much difference. Maybe slower build times but more secure and better builds.
AtNightWeCode··on You too can run malware from NPM (I mean without consequences)
The problem is that it is even possible to push builds from dev machines.
AtNightWeCode··on You too can run malware from NPM (I mean without consequences)
I think JS should be all source and no packages at all.
AtNightWeCode··on NPM debug and chalk packages compromised
There are curated lists over newly registered domain names that some security software uses so it should be easy to add without any privacy issues.
AtNightWeCode··on How RSS beat Microsoft
They were both terrible quality. The thing with VHS is playtime. One movie could fit onto one tape.
AtNightWeCode··on How RSS beat Microsoft
Then Microsoft took out revenge by adding the worst RSS integration ever to Windows/Outlook.
AtNightWeCode··on Google will allow only apps from verified developers to be installed on Android
I think it would be ok if it was not for the fact that Google will most likely abuse it for other purposes like locking out indie developers even more.
AtNightWeCode··on Cloudflare incident on August 21, 2025
It was the company that I found that was impacted and could have caused it. They also don't play nice with others. It's even in the documentation. We looked into buying their services. They have also caused load problems in other clouds. But it was just a guess. Could be anything.
AtNightWeCode··on Cloudflare incident on August 21, 2025
Braze is my guess. They let customers do a lot of stuff with pushing and pulling data per user and I would guess every customer is in a sandbox. They were also impacted by the incident.
AtNightWeCode··on Go is still not good
I once described this "debugging" problem to one of the creators and he did not even understand the problem. It is so amateurish you wonder if they ever dipped a toe outside the academic world.

Btw, AI sucks on GO. One would have guessed that such a simple lang would suit ChatGPT. Turns out ChatGPT is much better at Java, C#, Pyhton and many other langs than GO.

AtNightWeCode··on Ask HN: Why does the US Visa application website do a port-scan of my network?
Most likely some "antivirus" bs. Probably harmless. Fun fact. Most browsers allow by default GET access to web resources on localhost and LAN. Been used for exploits since last century.
AtNightWeCode··on GDPR meant nothing: chat control ends privacy for the EU [video]
I voted for the only candidate that was clearly against this. However, the companies are suppose to do the scanning, not the police. Corporations like Meta already does things like this for sure. The difference is that they now will have to share potential crimes with the police. For Signal it is worse since it can't be added.
AtNightWeCode··on Why LLMs can't really build software
I typically design solutions to minimize the cognitive load on coders boarding my projects. They should not need a mental model to add features. Same with AI.
AtNightWeCode··on What does Palantir actually do?
They aggregate data and use it to hurt people. They use Facebook data for instance. If they collected the data or a "customer" did it does not really matter to me at least.
AtNightWeCode··on Claude Sonnet 4 now supports 1M tokens of context
GPT5 API uses more tokens for answers of the same quality as previous versions. Fell into that trap myself. I use both Claude and OpenAI right now. Will probably drop OpenAI since they are obviously not to be trusted considering the way they do changes.
AtNightWeCode··on GitHub is no longer independent at Microsoft after CEO resignation
I can't even use the Github site without hitting rate limits all the time.

And the hot take is that Azure devops, including git and the pipelines, is actually better. That Github yaml trash is just a pain.

AtNightWeCode··on Token growth indicates future AI spend per dev
Don't know about the numbers but is this not the cloud all over again. Promises about cheap storage and you don't maintain it developed into maintenance hell and storage costs steadily rising instead of dropping.
AtNightWeCode··on Ask HN: With all the AI hype, how are software engineers feeling?
Mid management have always been the same. Idiots. Like at the very first corp I worked at, we got a drag and drop UI tool and the manager was like. We can add that feature in no time, just drag and drop a button.

Basically, no one cares.

AtNightWeCode··on GPT-5
Either they want the data so bad or they vibed the legal requirements. When I pay online in my country I have to identify myself with a digital id that is legally valid for a lot things. Anything from bank and stock transactions to tax declaration and even accessing medical records.
AtNightWeCode··on GPT-5
So, first it did not work because of API changes. Then I got the problem with the loop. And then it did not work either cause it requires withpersona.
AtNightWeCode··on GPT-5
Wrote a ? cause this garbage forum ghosts any critical poster about any of the HN kids. And no, I will not send a scan of my ass or my face to these shady fkrs.
