AnotherGoodName··on Coding is not solved
I don’t use gastown specifically but the level of complexity agents can code for is very high now.

Over this weekend in chat with the games discord watching as it iterated a harness built an entire implementation of the board game terraforming mars https://tfmbot.com using agents and harnesses for them.

I think if you can implement a board game end to end by feeding in the rulebooks and having a harness spawn agents to validate it’s reasonably solved.

The presidio is huge though and has a ton of old military warehouses? Perhaps it could have taken one of the major commercial buildings already there. Is sports basement warehouse located entirely in the presidio or any of the other major commercial enterprises there really a better fit than a cool museum.
AnotherGoodName··on How did AMD Ryzen get 50% faster in two years?
Weird they didn't talk about the DDR4->DDR5 transition. The 5800X3d->7800X3D went from DDR4->DDR5.

DDR5 is literally twice the price per GB. It's better for sure, higher bandwidth but waaaay more expensive. The 9800X3D supports much faster and even more expensive DDR5 than the 7800X3D too (DDR5-2667 to DDR5-5600).

AnotherGoodName··on Claude Status – Elevated errors for multiple models
Hell i’m working on ai for board games as a hobby (tfmbot.com) and one of the cards is ‘microbes’. Sent straight back to 4.8 for having that in my code.
AnotherGoodName··on Elevated errors for multiple models – Resolved
Hey I bought a ‘cyrix pr166’ so i’m not too sure about that.
AnotherGoodName··on Apple Mac mini review
The M6 and M5 haven’t shipped tet, just preorder stage so they’ll come down once the nee one’s land. A good proxy is the M2 mini dropping to ~$250 after the M4 hit.

Eg. https://uptradeit.com/buy-used-refurbished-mac-mini-2024-sil... ($269)

I’m hopeful for even lower than $300 prices just because there’s a lot of homelab people spending a lot on these and the M5 ultra really does make the M4 not worth using for that use case. So there should be a flood shortly hopefully.

I’m going to keep an eye out for the incoming refurb $200 M4s. Handy little machines to have as a low power tmux terminal.
AnotherGoodName··on Show HN: A competition for small neural networks that play strategy games
Nice. I was 72nd. Working in AI research today and still making ai for games as a hobby (tfmbot.com is an ai i’m working on for my favourite board game terraforming mars).

AnotherGoodName··on New evidence for hidden chambers beyond Tutankhamun's tomb
Incidentally i always found the idea of an explorer grabbing the mysterious jewelled skull and getting cursed similar to the thought exercise of how we warn future cultures about the dangers of long term radioactive waste.

The warning needs to transcend language so you probably think a skull is pretty clear right? Put a big skull there, maybe make it light up or eye catching in some way just to really seal the deal? Surely they understand "don't go near this". Yet in a million years time you're probably going to get some explorer "finding the mysterious and cursed crystal skull" who will subsequently die of "the mysterious curse". It would have made a more interesting ending for that Indiana Jones movie that's for sure.

AnotherGoodName··on US troop deaths during Iran war exceed Pentagon count by at least four
To get more specific this often means 'suicide' which absolutely is a casualty of war given the strain of war conditions, especially given the logistics concerns and duration of tours that they are forcing right now.

I have so many abandoned projects before ai. In fact these days i’m returning to the and finishing them off.
AnotherGoodName··on The AI job market in 2026
At this point that’s like asking to work at an artisanal hand made goods factory. Not common and I’m not even sure there’s particular demand on the consumer side for artisanal hand crafted code despite the negativity towards AI.
AnotherGoodName··on US Customs supervisor busted for stealing hardware from Homeland Security PCs
The copper theft thing happens in western nations too. There's videos of people driving up in cars, license plates and faces showing and just to add to the stupidity they use bolt cutters to remove live power cables from EV charging stations.

The damage they do is well over $1000 from the multiple they hit so a major federal charge qualifies. The scrap value once you pull out the copper is less than $5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqmythK_b6Y

The amount of effort to reward doesn't come near even a minimum wage job. Similar to the above. The guy sold $7800 over the course of more than a year and not to factor in this was a swap so he bought replacements. Stupid.

AnotherGoodName··on Houthis 'take control' of key island in global shipping route
The Houthis also explicitly allow Chinese vessels and Chinese ships have been able to traverse the red sea without issue. Which means China actually has more ability to access oil than other countries right now.

I suspect the Chinese won’t be happy with the pipeline and refinery attacks on Saudi Arabia but i also assume that there will still be plenty of Chinese bound oil for the foreseeable future.

Fwiw i noticed you absolutely can't reasonably get a US Via consulate appt for some countries without AI right now so the requiremnts already begun.

The consulate is booked out for 3 months and only opens 3 months out. All openings are snapped up before any human could get one. They have a lot of anti-script blocking but AI seems to get around them. So there's an arms race, you pretty much need AI to book it (a basic hand written curl script isn't enough).

AnotherGoodName··on Ask HN: Why were OpenAI, Claude, and Grok simultaneously down?
It could be as simple as a new model (astra) was released which takes more resources combined with a surge in usage due to novelty took down OpenAI. Meanwhile everyone at big companies have the ability to switch models and moved to Anthropic pushing it too over the edge.
AnotherGoodName··on Corporate America is getting hooked on open-source AI
I actually think they’re hooked on models they can fine tune.

You can’t further train the closed models. The open models can be fine tuned for your company. Big companies fine tune models on all the internal systems and documentation, not just through .md files (you’d blow up the context trying it that way) but actual fine tuning of open weights models. A low tier but open weights model actually beats frontier models when you do this for a specific task.

I think the frontier providers need to have a way to isolate instances (bedrock style?) and allow fine tuning to compete. Big companies are absolutely fine tuning models right now and getting better results than even the best frontier models for their use cases.

AnotherGoodName··on Reflections on Americans' Net Worth
The mean and the median wealth differences is the most striking. USA is second on mean wealth and 27th in median (just ahead of Greece). A few trillionaires pulling it up with nothing trickling back down.

Still wealthy either way but I always find it a bit jarring how skewed the US self perception is since people generally experience something closer to the median.

One i hate is products that have statements ‘high in vitamins’ and then you read the ingredients and see they just added a crushed vitamin tablet.
AnotherGoodName··on Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1
I think this occurs due to the prompt. LLMs are actually text completion/translation focused in architecture. We just give them a prompt along the lines of “the context is that you’re a world leading expert now complete the response”.

They need the prompt to encourage expert outputs but unfortunately we also get ‘pretending to be an expert’ outputs since there’s a large amount of polluted training data for this.

AnotherGoodName··on Isitdoneyet.gg is a website I made to figure out if games are complete
When in Rome (or when on the web)… You need to align with the expectations of users of your site for the site to have value to those users and this doesn’t align with user expectations.

People do wish to be informed if a game is missing core content and features. People in general don’t see it as a negative if new content is added to an otherwise complete game. You have a mismatch here with general consensus.

This mismatch means this is a site that only has worth to yourself. Which is ok if you’re ok with that. If you want others to gain value you have to change to meet their expectations.

So it’s up to you. You can stick to this idea and keep this website as you want it or you can adjust to the feedback given here and accept that these games are considered complete by the vast majority.

AnotherGoodName··on Isitdoneyet.gg is a website I made to figure out if games are complete
The entire page of ‘net yet’.

Counter strike 2, Dota 2, GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption etc. the list goes on. Everyone would consider these games maintained not incomplete. Maybe just merge not yet into complete? The ‘pending’ is more reasonable the ‘not yet’ list is clear nonsense.

AnotherGoodName··on Isitdoneyet.gg is a website I made to figure out if games are complete
Seems completely arbitrary to me honestly. Clearly some adjustments to the criteria are needed because this list reads unmaintained vs maintained as opposed to complete vs incomplete.
