Anon84··on The shrinking landscape of linguistic diversity in the age of LLMs
Interestingly, you can trace “American” English becoming its own thing [1] to the publication of the first Webster dictionary that made a conscious effort to simplify spelling. American and British dialects have been diverging ever since (although British has been becoming more American since the turn of the millennium).

Anon84··on US gov and OpenAI mislabel map of Africa at global conference
You can, but the trick is to ask it to write a python script to generate the "visualization". The added set of constraints imposed by library structure, internal data/shapefiles, etc keeps it from hallucinating

Anon84··on The social physics of conversation: Communication patterns matter
“Social Physics” is Alex Pentland’s term for this kind of analysis. He’s been using it for a decade or two https://a.co/d/0jcnmbap it’s almost a trademark at this point. Most people (including me when I was working on this stuff) refer to it as human dynamics

That being said, August Comte came up with the name back in the 19th century before settling on “Sociology”

A few years back I analyzed how (informal, social media) written Spanish differs from place to place and (re-)discovered that the vireynados were a thing a while back :)
