It’s tight.
I have a Royal 51/810 (one of each) that I use as a travel/bathroom radio, ironically, both have fantastic AM performance, and.. lacking FM - the IF/Audio bandwidth appears twice as wide on AM, and FM just sounds like crunchy - probably needs caps in the audio section, but its so tightly packed, and has a PCB with the heaviest plating I've ever seen - which means it needs work I cannot easily do.

I can find other references as well if you want. EMI in cars has been an issue for a long time, automakers however did do the needed work suppress the noise from spark plugs, I do not see this as any different.
I believe that mandating AM reception is perfectly reasonable - as the reason given for leaving it out is because auto manufacturers do not want to spend the money to reduce the EMI from their vehicles.
The total added BOM cost to add AM to a modern radio is zero - because they have a single chip that does both AM/FM.
So I dont really understand what this comment has to do with the article at hand here?
I've never had a lick of trouble, and even though I'm pretty proficient at hosting LAMP apps, it's much less effort than self-hosting.
Like Wordpress.com in hindsight seems to offer it, but its not clear to me that I'm their customer target.
I'd like a future where we're less car reliant, I think modern vehicles are dangerous to pedestrians - that does not make this some sort of violence however - violence implies an intent, and I dont think there is any provable intent here.
I read the comments from Matt M yesterday, and it felt like a hit piece.
I run a website for a couple scifi like conventions, we need cheap reliable hosting without me having to deal with the vagaries of running wordpress myself.
I would have bought a product like WP Engine directly from Automattic, but AFAIK they dont offer one, this feels like lashing out at a competitor because they failed to enter a market segment, and now feel their lunch is being ate.
I ran websites for a long time without any version control, and would have no problem doing it again, the benefit of WordPress is the semi-WYSIWYG editor and the plugin ecosystem.
In the end, the goal of P25 was to make it almost, but not completely possible to listen in - I'd also note the way they did their testing is not how these radios are typically deployed, which is not direct subscriber to subscriber on simplex, its either via a conventional repeated system or via a trunked system.
I do agree that frequent key changes are bad - but for entirely different reason, they're an operation nightmare. Most agencies who deploy it either use very long lived keys deployed by KVL, or deploy a UKEK and then change keys via OTAR on some cycle, which is not infrequently, never.
My belief is the theoretical risks on P25 are not well proven in reality, you're more likely to have some interference issue over say, intentional jamming.
Either way a radio for ~75 bucks plus supporting hardware that will do AES256 isnt bad - and DES-OFB/DES-XL is good enough to keep the casual listener out, which is more or less the point of the crypto here. Also I know they make a big deal about unit ID's, but they carry no meaningful info, its just a hex ID.
P25 Encryption is pretty good, in terms of quality.
I just bought my first iPad, going on a work trip next week, gonna give it a whirl, and try that out.
This is some sexist godddam bullshit.
Yes, motherhood is important - for all of us, and people raising families are something we need to do better to accommodate society wide, but implying the most important thing a woman could ever do is be a baby factory is stupid regressive thinking.
Which makes a more meaningful impact to society and the world, raising one child or saving every human on the planet two hours of labor a week?
Ideally, no one should have to chose, you ought to be able to do both of those things at once, and not having to pick.
I accept the (United States) need for nuclear weapons until no one else has any - but I'd be the first to sign up for not having them.
Its great if you're a technical person who has a clear vision for your product, if its not a product anyone else needs however, its not gonna do much good for you.
