Almondsetat··on EDG C++ front-end goes public
For the uninitiated, what are/were the strong points of this frontend wrt the others? Why would anyone use it?
Almondsetat··on The top secret URSALA, RAQUEL, and FARRAH satellites (2025)
The incredible and futuristic technologies the US managed to deploy decades before the competition reminds me of the story of how the NRO gifted NASA a couple of their old decommissioned satellites in 2012 and they turned out to be basically upgraded Hubble telescopes pointed at earth. The US from the 90s to the 2000s had multiple Hubble-level telescopes just for spying while NASA was fighting for scraps to study the entire cosmos.
Almondsetat··on Opus 5.5 is good at explainer videos
These explainer videos are garbage, whether done by humans or not. Just like those crappy Netflix "documentaries". Don't get me wrong, it's impressive, but it's just a more automated way of outputting low effort, low quality content
Almondsetat··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
Yes, because there are plenty of situations where it's morally and legally acceptable to film someone without their consent

>Filming without permission is no different than harassing or bullying.

Since you used the most generic language possible, I guess me filming my nephew blowing on the cadles at his 8th birthday is harrassing and bullying and I should expect a punch in the face

Care to provide some proof they have? All I have read and seen points to them simply being Meta employees
Almondsetat··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
Feel free to cite scientific studies proving your unhinged claim
Almondsetat··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
So, do you have proof those particular employees disrespected other people and deserved the disrespect?
Almondsetat··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
Any camera in the world can be used to film people in public without their consent. There are lawful ways to do it (if the people are "background noise" and not the point of the video), and unlawful ways to do it (if the people become the subject of the video).

So tell me now, is a GoPro/Canon/Apple employee who doesn't consent to being the subject of a video taken with a GoPro/Canon/iPhone camera also a hypochrite?

Almondsetat··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
To point out that it's not hypochritical to treat differently a private recording and a published recording of a person that hasn't given you explicit consent

You are the only one arguing this since you made up an argument I haven't made
Almondsetat··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
Do you have a point beside saying something completely unrelated while making up stuff about me?
Almondsetat··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
Since you can apparently read my mind, there is no need for me to reply
Almondsetat··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
Supposing the video has not been edited further, since the original was taken down, their voices were not censored and there are people in the video who were not in the background and who clearly didn't want to be filmed. I agree that the law has many intricacies, but here I think it's much more the case of their privacy being broken and their consent being ignored

>you're claiming that it's illegal to record people in public in the Netherlands

No I haven't, you should re-read what I actually wrote.

Almondsetat··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
Are you claiming I didn't inform myself? Can you provide some proof for this accusation?
Almondsetat··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
FALSE! It's legal to record in public spaces and share it if you are not targeting any individual in particular. What the author did was instead purpusefully focus on those particular employees.

I agree, I cannot control what other people will do. Are you applying this fear to all other facets of your life? I guess not, since that would mean you'd live in a state of constant fear and paranoia.
Almondsetat··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
Feel free to point out the hypochrisy. I'll remind you that sharing a video you took of someone without their consent is not the same as recording them and keeping the video strictly for yourself
Almondsetat··on Heretic removes restrictions from language models
I have a chinese IP camera. From superficial research I know it has some CVEs to take control of it. Unfortunately, I don't have the technical knowledge to perform an attack and run some software to extend the camera's functionalities. No model from a provider accepts my RE and hacking requests, so these abliterated ones have been vital to reclaim possession over my stuff
Almondsetat··on Nobody pays for FOSS, we can force them to
Other than charity and donations, the only two ways of getting paid for developing FOSS are: 1) support contracts and 2) crowdfunding the next release.

Digital goods live in a post-scarsity situation. Applying the same business model as real life products is crazy and it's the reason why we have Adobe&Co.

Almondsetat··on Why I didn’t sign the Fields medallists’ letter
Ok, you found a bigger mountain, now what?
Almondsetat··on GPT-6 Astra Solves a WWI German Radio Cipher
Is the ?4th a date?
Almondsetat··on Why I didn’t sign the Fields medallists’ letter
Solving a theorem is like climbing a new mountain. The mountain is already there, and there is a list of the hardest known mountains to climb. The point of climbing them and not just dropping with a plane on top of the peak is to help develop human climbing skills and expand our knowledge and abilities. Also, already conquered mountains are climbed all the time to test new strategies.

Now, if an LLM proves a theorem, it's like discovering a new mountain and knowing what its peak looks like. Does that mean the problem is finished? No, we still need climbers to actually do the work and advance the field with human understanding.

Almondsetat··on What Comes After Git
Probably something about integrating access control to a repository so a deparment has the source for a certain library, while the others only see the header files and compiled objects to use?
Almondsetat··on Astra for Coding: Why Are We Doing This Again?
I have found these models to be useful either at super specific tasks (e.g., "take this function or algorith?m and find any black magic to make ot faster + validate and verify the hell oit of it"), or give it an entire thing to oneshot without oversight. The moment you have a hybrid workflow where you actually have to work and check and understand AI code, things get insane
Almondsetat··on Astra for Coding: Why Are We Doing This Again?
There are also plenty of things a compiler might not expose that end up being ambiguous. For example, C++ doesn't officially have a restrict keyword, so how can you express the fact that two memory regions never operlap and can be optimized? Unfortunately the reality is that if we had a language capable of truly expressing the programmer's intent we'd end up with a monster
Almondsetat··on How An AI math breakthrough ignited a controversy
>For the past year, Buckmaster and Alpöge had been using a variety of AI tools, including OpenAI’s Codex, to tackle the Navier-Stokes problem. Last month, their AIs had at long last found a solution to the Euler equations and verified it in Lean.

Their AIs?
