AllanHoustonSt··on C++ 20: The Core Language
There’s an initiative for Rust-like editions, but I think it’s a controversial topic within the C++ committee.

I absolutely love my ipad for casual/quick content consumption and as my main pdf/ebook reader.

For videos I don’t always want to sit in front of my TV and web browsing on the higher end ipads I actually find more enjoyable than on a laptop.

Sure it’s an expensive device for such niche uses but I’m willing to pay the premium. The hardware’s also specced to be competitive for quite a few years.

As a passive supporter of capitalism I’ve enjoyed reading Ha Joon Chang’s critiques of capitalism.

If we're talking purely financial cost benefit considerations I'm not sure (and also curious) if that's actually true.

It sounds like you’d be surprised about how many industry leaders come from STEM backgrounds. If you take a headcount of the partners of all the quant firms that have been profitable over the last ten years, I’m not sure if STEM nerds would be the majority but they’d certainly make up a significant portion.

Really surprised Baidu isn't higher.

As far as Search as a product goes, Google is basically unstoppable IMO. They’re just far and away ahead of everyone else in both the engineering and theoretical side. They have the best infra for it and will keep their lead because they also get by far the most data for search which just goes into a positive feedback loop.

The gap between Google Search and any other Search competitor is way way way larger than say.. AWS and any other direct competitor.

In order for Google to be challenged on the Search front, I think it’ll require a fundamental change (in medium) in the way people prefer looking things up on the Internet. Which is obviously an incredibly difficult question.

AllanHoustonSt··on Echolocation in blind people reveals the brain’s adaptive powers
Does training for something like this lean more towards perfecting technique or forcing adaptation through repetition like training a muscle?

Out of the popular/common white collar jobs that can help someone push oneself out of the lower middle class rut which include medicine, law, banking, software, etc I'd certainly say software has the lowest barrier for entry and highest ROI wrt education/time/financial cost.

I wouldn't be surprised if the median household income for kids entering medicine/law/banking are well above those studying cs.

PT4 and HM2 are still the dominant software products but more sites have popped up that either block all HUDs who limit your options to one or two random crappy offshoot HUDs that happen to work with that site for whatever reason. You can still usually export your hands to PT4 and/or HM2 after the fact.
