Alien1Being··on Private German rocket makes history, reaches orbit from European soil
Really sad to see that Europe is so far behind.

Consider India, once single country vs all of Europe: 88 orbital launches successfully reached orbit using Indian built rockets starting in 1980.

This is out of 104 individual liftoffs.

Over 46 years of successful launches.

Alien1Being··on IBM Bob
Same thing is happening to Microsoft and Google.

A slow, long slide through mediocrity into irrelevance...

Alien1Being··on Why are European countries moving their gold out of North America?
Because keeping your national gold reserves in a Mafia state run by a arbitrary kleptocratic elite is a very bad idea.

At this point international trust in the USA is at around the same level as trust in Iran and Russia .

China handily beats the USA in the trust rankings in most of the world.

Alien1Being··on GLP-1s are being linked to fewer serious infections, including TB
I was at a hepatology meeting focussed on fatty liver a couple of years ago, where a well regarded head of hepatology at a major national quarternary referral centre, joked that we should be putting this in the water supply...

Alien1Being··on Qantas Airbus A380 engine failure in 2010 (2023)
Qantas is a troubled airline. Once a Qantas aircraft technician even told me that Singapore Airlines have a far superior maintenance schedule for their aircraft.

This person claims that he tells his family to avoid flying on Qantas ( but flies on it himself since he gets free flights)

These days Han airlines ( SIA, Cathay,China Eastern) and Middle Eastern airlines (Emirates,Qatar) are far better than Western Airlines ( American, British, Lufthansa, KLM,Qantas).

Alien1Being··on You Know Who Hates AI? Insurance Claims Adjusters
Meanwhile HR departments have started using Pangram like tools to detect and remove AI written job applications.

The flood of nonsensical AI slop applications that HR is facing has forced this.

Alien1Being··on Lion-man
Bhai, Sanatana Dharma is ancient, but surely this statue is far older.

This statue is around 35,000 years old.

Hinduism is fairly young by contrast and is only around 4000 years old.

Alien1Being··on Run macOS Software on Linux
Is there some really amazing Mac only software that would justify the effort ?

I genuiniely can't see why I would want to run Mac software on my Arch box.

I have used Linux since the 1990's and used the Mac back in 1988.

Alien1Being··on FDA approves first in class targeted therapy for metastatic pancreatic cancer
Not a nice disease to get. Ranks up there with glioblastoma multiforme, advanced oesophageal cancer and advanced duodenal cancer.

I am aggressive and investigate aggressively to detect pancreatic cancer early. One even had a Whipple procedure (pancreaticoduodenectomy ), since I detected it so early.

Despite that, the longest anyone I diagnosed has lived has only been 8 months.

Sad, they were all nice people.

Alien1Being··on Wiped out: US faces surging toilet paper prices amid trade war with Canada
Stock up on toilet paper before the price goes through the roof !!!!!

Get enough for a year for a family.

400 rolls would be a good start.

Act now and save money.

WARNING: AI VENDOR HYPE
Alien1Being··on More than half of adults in U.S. say they lack basic statistical understanding
I would estimate that 90% of software developers I have spoken to lack basic statistical understanding. Basic concepts like kurtosis, skewness, moments, the core Greeks all seem to be alien concepts to most.

Xiaomi robots do this in double digit seconds.

Still slow compared to humans, but Chinese robots will be as successful as Chinese EVs, phones and solar panels.

Alien1Being··on US debt has hit $40tn - Will that be a wake-up call?
The financial illiteracy of Warsh, Bessent and Trump is the goddess's gift to China .
Alien1Being··on Why aren't smart people happier? (2022)
In my experience who live and work with smart people, and make smart decisions about their personal lives and families are pretty happy .

You can have a high IQ and make really stupid personal decisions.

Albert Einstein was notorious for this . He made catastrophic personal decisions that destroyed his families. His various wives and numerous mistresses ended up despising him and his son ended up in an asylum .

Alien1Being··on Anti-AI fonts are useless and harmful
Are you hopelessly naive or are you just Sam Altman ?
Alien1Being··on Anti-AI fonts are useless and harmful
Litigation and legislation against Big AI may be the only things that work .

We will probably have to wait Europe and China to do this since the US executive , legislative and legal systems have all been bought by Ames oligarchs .

Alien1Being··on TigerBeetle Core System Architecture: Deconstructing Performance Engineering
Great and interesting work !
Alien1Being··on Linux 7.2
Linux is so very predictably stable from a desktop user perspective . It is an absolute pleasure to use , particularly when combined with TUI applications like yazi, lsd, fzf , neovim etc

Been using it since the early nineties .

At work I use Windows Server 2025 as my desktop ( the alternative would be the dreadful AI infested Windows 11).

While Windows Server 2025 is not dreadful , the Linux experience is so much nicer .

Alien1Being··on CIA funding helped keep NeXT afloat in the 80s
Apple :

"In 2012, Apple joined the PRISM data collection program run by the National Security Agency (NSA)."

"The firm added that between 1 December 2012 and 31 May 2013 it received between 4,000 and 5,000 requests from US law enforcement for customer data, involving between 9,000 and 10,000 accounts or devices. It did not say with how many it had complied."

Alien1Being··on Don't paste the AI, please
Mindlessly calling things passive aggressive, is nearly as bad as pasting AI slop. Start working on your language skills.

And yes, this comment is passive aggressive.
