Akronymus··on Does Reddit have an astroturfing problem? What the data suggests
Yeah I wasn't sure of the actual threshold (I kinda just lucked into a lot of karma early on because of a post about factorio releasing 1.0)

HN also only gived downvote perms after being active, afair.
Akronymus··on Dutch governments builds alternative for Microsoft based on NixOS
weirdly enough that reminds me of wattpad and ao3, where wattpad uses much nicer sounding terms while ao3 uses as accurate terms as possible. (which makes ao3 seem more "degenerate")

> Do you think that the math is irrelevant now that the audience itself has become so woke that it’s basically an echochamber?

I do very much believe that that is your own cognitive biases at work. While it certainly feels like there is a slant in a certain direction to me, I do see plenty of dissenting opinions from that perceived slant that get pretty much as much visbility. Most discourse here IS civil, too, which permits those dissents.

If you do believe that there is bad faith discourse going on, you can always email the mod team to get that sorted out.

yuzu also sold access to more recent builds which allowed people to play unreleased nintendo games early, afair

one of his sons is slated to take over the business, afaik. Specifically the racecar driver one.

Akronymus··on People Who Can't Picture Anything Are Rewriting the Science of Imagination
yeah looks like it triggered a keyword filter to mark it as dead to me. Or a few people flagged it.

Either way it seemed relevant enough to me that I vouched for it.

Akronymus··on People Who Can't Picture Anything Are Rewriting the Science of Imagination
do you have inner music or just your voice serving as the instrument like me?
Akronymus··on People who can't picture anything are rewriting the science of imagination
that made me realize I never once thought of whether I was hearing stuff in my dreams.

> Practically, it means I'm rubbish at remembering people. I've developed some techniques that help, but if someone changes their look significantly, it's very hard for me to identify that it's the same person.

Do you perhaps have a mild form of face blindness?

> Engineering types most commonly are strong in conceptual thinking. You can imagine complex systems and how they connect but it’s hard to describe and linearize this into words. You have to translate. Again it’s sort of an imagined picture but not really.

I guess I have that ability, in that I can relatively easily figure out spatial relations or can map out code mentally. The photorealism I am a 0 on.

Is linear thinking just a stream of conciousness thing where you basically list attributes? If so then I guess I have that too.

But id still describe myself as an aphant.

Akronymus··on People Who Can't Picture Anything Are Rewriting the Science of Imagination
the only internal sense I have is my own voice. I cant even "imagine" music but rather hum it in my own voice at best. Same with others' voices
Akronymus··on Linux Zoom client proactively reading everything written to X11 clipboard
I have a few scripts that interact with wl-copy. Like one that just cats all the files in a directory and pipes it into wl-copy so I can paste it somewhere else. Something like that would've been immensly useful when I was still on windows, but that would've been too much a bother to set up.

Thanks for that tip. Works like a charm.
Akronymus··on SteamdDB Joins Nexus Mods
They claim no ads on steamdb, but they also claim "show what games have a thriving modding community" or something like that. Which implies linking to modding hubs, which implies linking to nexusmods, which I'd 100% deem as being ads.

Just because it's ads for another site within the corporate umbrella doesn't make it any less of an ad. I also expect that to be just the start of the enshittification. I fully expect them to remove features, then add "new" features that are basically the same as the old ones, but that time behind paywalls. So that they can claim that they technically aren't making free features paid.

Akronymus··on Being nude in public can make us feel better about our bodies
I went to a sauna plenty of times as a child, with my parents. Still, quite a bit different from a nude beach though
Akronymus··on Every fucking website: 2026 edition
I've legitimately seen one project that basically says to do that, but with "your ai agent". At least piping to sh is deterministic and, you can pipe to a filw and check the script

AFAICT, actually manipulating the AST, which then in turn allows you to implement your own language features, inserting additional debugging info, memoizing a function by just wrapping it in a macro, or optimizations based on domain knowledge.

Akronymus··on The growing vigilante movement to knock out Flock surveillance cameras
I appear to have misread some things. I'll have to re-research the stuff.
Akronymus··on The growing vigilante movement to knock out Flock surveillance cameras
AFAICT, municipalities get paid to put up the cameras, which isn't federal, so flock can then use those cameras to freely gather data and sell it to police

I personally find old reddit on mobile more usable than both new and the app version.
