Today we prompt software developers to "think about ways to improve AI's architecture" and it results in AI getting better. AI over the last year has made very rapid gains in filling the role of a software developer.
> 4. After knowing that the server was hacked, the internal team finds the message board and does nothing with the information. They caught their AIs swarming and did not even inform management.
I believe Sam Altman or someone else from OpenAI clarified on Twitter that they did not find the message board at this time. When the artifactory server stopped working, they archived its contents, reset it, resumed training, and only later noticed that it had been used as a message board after they finally discovered the hacking going on.
If outside observers could watch the astronaut clearly, the astronaut would look like they're slowing down to a stop at the event horizon. The astronaut would not see themselves freezing in time, but they would see everything outside of the black hole speed up.
You could travel arbitrarily far into the future by getting close to a black hole's event horizon for a while without crossing it and then leaving, assuming you had the energy for it and you didn't get obliterated by all the mass and energy falling into the black hole in that timeframe.
Is non-self-hosting available for all of those things on Tangled? I don't want to run my own CI but I do want CI. I couldn't figure out if it was available last time I looked at Tangled.
They need changes to support it, but I don't expect it to take long. Both vkQuake and IronWail work well with the previous new official episode (Dimension of the Machine) and the remastered models after they were updated for that.
This is exciting! I've loved the idea of Durable Objects but I've disliked that there's no existing way to use them while scaling to multiple machines outside of Cloudflare.
The Gmail API works nicely like this. There's a history.list endpoint where you can see the recent history of message additions and removals, you can query for just the history that's taken place since a specific event's historyId, and you can subscribe to push notifications (that can be delivered by webhook) which just tell you when there are new history events, and you're expected to hit the history.list endpoint to see what's new. Some dropped push notifications aren't a big deal.
That's just defining intelligence or consciousness as whatever we specifically can't put in a machine. It's not a very useful definition. (And it's one that completely breaks down to nothing if we do manage to fully put these things into machines or somehow prove it's possible.)
Oh, GPT-3.5, recognizable in so many old screenshots by the green icon. If ever a popular model deserved the term "stochastic parrot", it was GPT-3.5. I wonder what percentage of people today still base their opinions of AI capabilities on their experiences with that model. That model was the only option for free ChatGPT users for the first year and a half of ChatGPT's existence, from November 2022 to May 2024.
What do you find worse about it? I've been switching between it, Codex, and Claude Code to try to compare them, and my only conclusion so far has been that it's nice that Copilot has both OpenAI and Anthropic models as options.
The AI Enhancements section was interesting. I've been wondering about the best practices for agents interacting with long-running dev servers, and Astro 7's approach (run in background and have a logs command) seems like a good model.
Of these models, only Kimi had anything on me and it was pretty inaccurate.
When Fable was accessible, I asked it about myself and it had some accurate information about me. It's neat. It feels a tiny bit like I got to sign the Voyager probe. I wonder if Fable was trained on a significantly different selection of data or if it's just better at retaining rare details it saw in its training.
Is there any interpretation where Amazon is involved but for a reason besides trying to screw over Anthropic? I don't see why Amazon would act against Anthropic when they have a deal to offer Anthropic models on AWS.
LLMs remind me of being a kid again being in wonder of all the possible things that could be done with a computer that haven't been figured out yet. The internet was relatively new and everyone had their own ideas of what that would enable. Fast forward to a few years ago and it was easy to believe that a lot of the low-hanging fruit of things an individual could do with the internet, apps, 3d graphics, etc, had been decently picked over and that things were stabilizing. Now I have no idea again what computing will look like in 5 years and it's exciting.
If we already were at the point that AI could self-direct effectively, then the world would already be very different (eg AI-driven technological progress and unemployment) in a way that we might have wished we prepared for more.
They believe they're going to eventually develop AI that's capable of recursive self improvement into world-redefining super-intelligence. I wouldn't expect someone in that position to risk giving away their lead. I expect we're going to see more of the top labs selectively holding back their best stuff.
This isn't that surprising after it was reported on that he had notes about claiming to "come out as a Republican and against the woke agenda" as a PR plan to defend himself. (https://gizmodo.com/sbf-floated-coming-out-republican-tucker...) I wonder if Trump is selling pardons and whether SBF still has the means for it. It's depressing that the US's state of affairs is such that this might be a workable strategy for him.
