AHorihuela··on Ask HN: How do you stay productive after work?
I completely agree with this.

I work at an investment bank, which means my workday starts at 6:30am and don't usually get home until 8 or 9pm. However, I still manage to come home and work (or play, really) on other projects.

Having interesting projects to work on (as opposed to articles to read) makes a tremendous difference on personal motivation.

Work on something you are interested in and this won't be a problem.

Walking everywhere also saves you money on gas, but do you really want to do that?

I don't think a straight razor is a fair comparison to their product.

UChicago math undergrad? I have complete confidence you won’t be acting this role for long...

You should reach out to people from your class (and years around it) that ended up in SF. Check out RethinkDB for example - part of their team is UChicago. Lollihop is another one.

Nice work - you totally owned it.

I'd start out with Investopedia (http://www.investopedia.com/university). That will give you a good overview and teach you the key terms which often make other investing books confusing.

You'd need to get a brokerage account that allows you to trade sovereign bonds. (I think TD Ameritrade might do). And from there it should be a straight shot.

The only problem is that if you invest only a few hundred bucks, trading commissions (~$20 to buy and sell) eat up a big portion of your (potential) returns. For example, if you invest $200 and come out of your trade even (selling bonds back to the market for $200), you still pay $20 in trading commissions, so you'd be already down 10% on your trade. In other words, you'd need to be up 10% on your trade (which is very nice) in order to just compensate for commissions.
