it's optional, you can unlock everything without paying and without much grinding.

the "diamonds" are mainly used to install mods from the mod store, however, you can get the same mods from the official forum and drop them into the mods folder without any issues.

again, you comment without knowledge. this is not a freemium game. it can be played for free with no significant limitations.

I can recommend TheoTown, available for all major platforms, even on Android and iOS, completely for free. It has a plug-in system, tons of decorative objects. Controls are good, too. Plus, it has some endgame content that makes it quite fun.

88840-8855··on Vladimir Putin's Speech, English Sub [video]
Main points:

1. The collapse of the Soviet Union led to a lot of pain and suffering, especially during the crazy 90s. -> understandable, people who lived during the crazy 90s (me) can totally relate to that, my German friends have 0 view on that.

2. The West has colonized and is hence evil. Fully correct, the West did not take responsibility for that. There are only a few examples where countries paid proper reparations. Although not colonies, but Germany is doing a great job with dealing with its nazi past. UK, US, Japan, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, France, all of them should do that, too. Understandable argument.

3. The US never apologized for fire-bombing civilians during WW2 in Europe and never for nuking civilian targets twice. Fully understandable argument.

4. US still occupying Germany; Can confirm, here are so many US bases, air force bases, Americans, in those areas US police is driving on German soil, people pay with USD instead of the EUR. Although not mainstream, it is here. Where are the Chinese air force bases? Why are we not paying in CNY? Understandable argument.

Many good points.

Just a nice example of how fast fake news is spreading across the globe.

Should be punishable.

88840-8855··on President Putin has announced a partial mobilization in Russia
Oh yeah, super good idea. We had fantastic experience with humiliated nations before. It worked so well for Germany after WW1 /s

FACT: the end of this war must be positive for the Russian people, no matter whether Russia loses or wins the military operation. Putin came to power because the West didnt help the former Soviet republics. If Russia is left alone humiliated again then we will have the next anti-western system in 10 years.

88840-8855··on Show HN: Figr.app – a multi-user, notepad style calculator (desktop app)
It looks great. So far I have been using Numi and I can see a few advantages and disadvantages in both apps.

Numi:

+ lightweight

+ very fast start

- tabs are a paid feature

Figr:

+ variables

+ tabs

- slow start compared to Numi

- cannot customize the icon bar

What both apps dont have and what I am looking for: A super lightweight excel-like tables app to do basic calculations with formulas behind the cells. Do you know anything like that, guys?

It was a political decision back than. German stopped being great long time ago and the Transrapid cancellation was just the beginning of German downturn. The energy crisis will be the last episode of Germany's long depression.

88840-8855··on Europe’s energy crisis hits science
The US bombed oil producing countries when they tried to drop the petro dollar and the US was and is very depending on imports. Should we do the US model and bomb Russia ... or Should the US follow your suggestions and put US presidents into prison?
88840-8855··on Modi brushes aside US sanctions, immense potential for India-Russia partnership
HOLD ON! We are in war with Russia because we argue that we want to have a rule based international order.

RULES MUST BE APPLIED EQUALLY! Hence, to Russia and to the US.

That's all that non idealistic people are asking and demanding!

88840-8855··on Modi brushes aside US sanctions, immense potential for India-Russia partnership
Deported children? You mean the same children that Saddam has killed back then and that the US used as a reason to bomb millions into oblivion... and that was a fake in the end? :)

No thanks, American lies and propaganda must be banned + people spreading it must be punished.

88840-8855··on China passes United States in life expectancy
"Am deutschen Wesen mag die Welt genesen"

We had this already a few years ago :)

88840-8855··on China passes United States in life expectancy
What has happened with the US life expectancy suddenly? If it is the expectancy "at birth" then there is no Covid effect, isnt it?

I dont get why it drops.

Nevertheless, good job China. Lifting a country from absolute poverty, poorer than any African country during the 1980s, growing to a top global economy, having world-class infrastructure, developing its society, becoming cleaner and modern. This all deserves huge respect - instead of a racist anti-China war.. just because one is afraid that their system MAY work better and outcompete our system.

88840-8855··on Modi brushes aside US sanctions, immense potential for India-Russia partnership
I speak to Indian expat colleagues here in Germany and they are all against the anti-Russian politics, against the sanctions, pro-Modi in a very differentiated way.

I speak to Chinese and Taiwanese colleagues, also to South Korean colleagues. All are against the Western-led anti-Russia war.

We are in a bubble here. A huge bubble and we believe that we are the only right people with the only right opinion.

88840-8855··on Don't Pay UK
I fully agree. We need a full decoupling from the US. We must protect our economy and our interests, through out every single American soldier from European soil and make sure that those brain-washing machinery Hollywood/Netflix are being banned and replaced.

We are in this mess because of the US. Let us not forget that they are not our friends, but our enemy.

88840-8855··on Japan declares war on floppy disks for government use
I lived and worked in Japan and I was shocked how outdated the country was in many areas.

Opening bank accounts felt like I would imagine opening bank accounts was in the 1980s here in Germany. FAXes are still a huge thing. People buy CDs and DVDs. The architecture looks like it stopped developing somewhere in the 70s or 80s. Work culture is archaic, from absurd hierachies, to protocols (who sits where, who speaks first, who is allowed to speak louder, who must speak quite), to outdated offices (even for the most modern companies that i visited), tower computers, black suits with ties... puh, it was a nightmare. I dont want to start on the society and its outdated values (compared to where we are in the West): how they understand democracy, how they treat minorities, how they deal with their nazi-past.

I wonder every single time when media is reporting on the war against China and that Japan and Korea are our friends because we have the same values. Neither Korea nor Japan share most of values with us, in my opinion. Japanese and Korean friends agree.

There were other things that felt modern, but those were mainly driven by those state-sponsored and protected engineering companies that were founded during the post WW2 times.

Overall I would say: I did enjoy my time there, but I hated the racism, the work-culture and the bureaucracy.

Who to blame? I blame Raegan (Trump's big hero) who became president prior being a TV star and Raegan's slogan "Let's make America great again" and his campaign against Japan as he believed that he must destroy the Japanese threat by launching a trade war against them and by fighting the currency. Basically 1:1 what Trump copied 1:1 - just against China.

88840-8855··on Why are Pakistan’s floods so extreme this year?
Beep boop. Not a Russian bot, a German one who is just pissed of by the current politics and the elitist decisions.

And I hate it that any alternative proposed to the current kamikaze politics is called "Russian bots".

Yes, German nuclear plants was yet another trash decision and pushed again by the fear agitated by the Green Party. And yet, the majority wants nuclear, the Greens are against it.

We need REALPOLITIK and not this ideological trash. And REALPOLITIK to beat the biggest thread: global warming... and not some random conflicts between random countries nobody cared about 7 months ago and some random old pseudo-dictators that will anyway not be alive in a few years anymore.

88840-8855··on Germany pushes for ‘pay as you fly’ model
Why this wont work: must be done on EU level, not in tiny little Germany. This wont get momentum on EU level, hence, the (actually great) idea will die.

great idea or populism to mask the absolute failure in German politics in the past 20-30 years. If we didnt have the old industries (that the post-Nazi generation built), we would be doomed.

88840-8855··on Mikhail Gorbachev has died
Fully disagree.

Economic reforms were trash, the Chinese did them better. Political reforms broke the system. The Chinese avoided doing them and look at them today.

88840-8855··on New Zealand's plan to prepare for inevitable climate change impacts
Yeah.. unfortunately we still fight about some piece of land and who should rule over it: one corrupt country or another corrupt country.

It will not work.

But nevertheless, I agee, we must stop pretending that life will end and we must stop run around like headless chicken pretending we COULD stop it IF. We wont stop it, we might slow it down, but it is already here and it will hit us harder as nobody is going to sacrifice his wealth for it. We must stop finding solutions for how to deal with it.

88840-8855··on Why are there so few economies of scale in construction? Part I
LOL! i just love it! the post received many upvotes before the Americans woke up. They go up and the negative votes started.

You people are seriously the worst!

The Europeans must get distance to you as much as possible. We have nothing in common.

88840-8855··on Why are there so few economies of scale in construction? Part I
Yup, my observation confirms your hypothesis.

The new houses in my neighborhood were all built 2017. There are 120 units in 2 styles: houses and semi detached houses. They all look identical and they were all built with a lot of economies of scale.

The price 2015 was: 500.000 Euro for the semi detached units.

The price 2022 is: 1.3 million.

The neighborhood did not change, the infrastructure did not improve. Nobody can explain you a logical reason (except of EcOnOmiNCs) why the house price exploded. Fine, some construction risk was prices in, let's be it 10%, also risk of default and other factors 10%. That explains 650k.

My boomer parents came, watched and complained: terrible houses, all look same, no garden, no basement, tiny garage, too close to the neighbors. They bought their house back than for 230k!

And there was this amazing time in Germany where prices for houses did not increase. They stagnated and even slightly dropped - which is intuitive as the house is getting older and less attractive!

The American crisis 2008 destroyed everything and it's incredible that until today we are not pointing towards those who's fault it was.

tldr: houses can be build with economies of scale, prices are up because of American politics 2008+

88840-8855··on Ask HN: What is a good note app, unlike Evernote?
Tried them all. It is critical to me that the app is subscription-free, runs on mobile, desktop and web.

I ended up using the native iOS/macOS notes app. Many features are lacking, I can only sync via iCloud, but the app syncs very well, has a decent UI and can handle attachments very well.
