7thpower··on OpenAI releases GPT-5.5 and GPT-5.5 Pro in the API
I have yet to talk to someone who is taking this approach and doesn’t end up with a dumpster fire, but here is to hoping this time is different.

Hope it works and you post about it.

7thpower··on Ask HN: Who is using OpenClaw?
What kind of noise does it filter out for you?
7thpower··on US plans to automatically register young men for military draft
There are roles other than infantry in war, right?
7thpower··on US and Iran agree to provisional ceasefire
I don’t know, but I hear the Trump boys are going to be doing a JV on some gold plated Persian toll booths. That family has unreal foresight.
7thpower··on Sam Altman may control our future – can he be trusted?
Not a scientist and use codex for anything complex.

I enjoy using CC more and use it for non coding tasks primarily, but for anything complex (honestly most of what I do is not that complex), I feel like I am trading future toil for a dopamine hit.

7thpower··on Show HN: Postgres extension for BM25 relevance-ranked full-text search
I hope there is an even smaller bird that will bring this to cloudsql for us plebs.
7thpower··on OpenAI Has New Focus (on the IPO)
You must be living on a different planet than me. Enterprises are just now seeing that these technologies can actually have an impact, and the companies do not have a discretionary cost cap the same way consumers/hobbyists do, so they will pay based on value.
7thpower··on Honda is killing its EVs
The USA has 50 states.
7thpower··on Sarvam 105B, the first competitive Indian open source LLM
pangram?
7thpower··on US tech firms pledge at White House to bear costs of energy for datacenters
Even if the pledges are in good faith, people are being naive about how utilities work.

The general goal for utilities has been to pursue the next “thing” and work toward some sort of regulation to lock in demand, which can be used as a lever to seek price increases and consolidate.

If there’s margin to be had, the utilities will find a way, and prices will go up either way.

7thpower··on MacBook Air with M5
Shots fired!
7thpower··on GPT‑5.3 Instant
That is what I mourn the most. They were my punctuation get-out-of-jail free card.

I didn’t love them enough to figure out how to type them without doing two dash’s in Word and then backspacing out of one and hitting space again — but damnit, I miss it.

7thpower··on OpenAI raises $110B on $730B pre-money valuation
I love that you are already confident fitting a curve. I want some of that swagger in my life.
7thpower··on Mercury 2: Fast reasoning LLM powered by diffusion
What do you mean by Grow is dead since about 6 months ago? Not refuting your point, but I’m curious.
7thpower··on SkillsBench: Benchmarking how well agent skills work across diverse tasks
I love the screenshots, I need to do something like that.
7thpower··on SkillsBench: Benchmarking how well agent skills work across diverse tasks
I’m pretty sure Claude just uses mine to keep a running list of pressure points for when I get cross with it.
7thpower··on Q&A: New UK onshore wind and solar is '50% cheaper' than new gas
Two can play the externalities game.
7thpower··on GLM-5: Targeting complex systems engineering and long-horizon agentic tasks
Unless you already had those cards, it probably still doesn’t make sense from a purely financial perspective unless you have other things you’re discounting for.

Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it though.

7thpower··on America has a tungsten problem
This.

Every time there is a discussion about how China is wiping the floor with the west, someone wants to chime in that they stole IP. It is an unhealthy fixation and betrays the fact that they are genuinely more efficient in many cases, even when labor costs and subsidies are removed.

Not to mention, complaining about China stealing IP is a pacifier. Even where true, it does not change the competitive dynamics at this point because any damage has already been done.

If we, as the west, want to be great, we will have to move beyond the victim stage.

7thpower··on A GTA modder has got the 1997 original working on modern PCs and Steam Deck
I remember one of my brother’s friends bringing over gta 3 and, after having played gta 2 and the 1960s London version, having my early teenage mind absolutely blown. One of my older brothers had a job and had copped a ps2, and let me play it when he was at work or with friends.

I must’ve crashed the dodo hundreds of times, trying to figure it out in a pre YouTube world, where the best I could do is exchange tips with my friends at school.

7thpower··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (February 2026)
Building a discovery, compliance, and middleware platform for talent marketplaces to help them compete on more equal footing with the usual suspects.

7thpower··on Let's compile Quake like it's 1997
Better have kept those environments.
7thpower··on British drivers over 70 to face eye tests every three years
I was referring to the contradictory statements.
7thpower··on British drivers over 70 to face eye tests every three years
> Most over-70s are significantly worse than the average driver and some are so dangerous they shouldn't be on the road at all.

> You're taking about statistical averages but I'm talking about a significant minority of over-70s who are wildly dangerous.

You sure about that?

7thpower··on We tasked Opus 4.6 using agent teams to build a C Compiler
Businesses do not exist to create jobs; jobs are a byproduct.
7thpower··on Show HN: NanoClaw – “Clawdbot” in 500 lines of TS with Apple container isolation
So you created a project, implicitly to help individuals keep their computers and credentials secure, but you can’t be bothered to proofread a read me?

I get using AI, I do all day everyday day it feels like, but this comes off as not having respect for others time.

7thpower··on Disrupting the largest residential proxy network
Maybe, or more likely you’re not trying to pull in content that is considered high risk to them, such as YouTube transcripts.
7thpower··on Euro firms must ditch Uncle Sam's clouds and go EU-native
Except nobody considers 200k employees a small company.
7thpower··on Disrupting the largest residential proxy network
They have a robust KYC that appears to serve, at least in large part, as a way to stay off the shit list of companies with the resources to pursue recourse.

Source: went through that process, ended up going a different route. The rep was refreshingly transparent about where they get the data, why the have the kyc process (aside from regulatory compliance).

Ended up going with a different provider who has been cheaper and very reliable, so no complaints.

7thpower··on ClickHouse acquires Langfuse
Langfuse has been my favorite LLM observability solution so far. Hopefully this acquisition makes it better, not worse.
