No, you don't need YouTube. In fact, you almost never need YouTube.

If you just want to host some files (like mp3s and animations) you can toss them on a CDN.

If you need a bit more advanced features, like easy embedding, a premade player, etc. you might wanna use Vimeo.

*HOWEVER* YouTube is fast, easy and takes care of pretty much everything for you. This is not to be underestimated.

> Ubiquiti EdgeMAX but I wouldn't recommend them anymore

Sadly there isn't exactly a lot of alternatives in the hobbyist network setup area ... It's basically just ubiquity and mikrotik at this point as far as I know

I can't say for sure, but I have never ever seen a PC game using UPnP. That said, I have only ever seen it once with a console, a PS3 in this case.

And, don't quote me on this, but most PC games are not Peer-To-Peer. They often come with their own server software.

7steps2much··on Funds for Open Source
Yes, the way I understood this is that customers can contribute to projects more easily. If you don't have any customers / users willing to pay then you don't get any money.

As for your situation, put a notice up on your project that you are willing to fix bugs / code new features for a fee? If these companies use your library they might be interested in sponsoring your work.

If they are not however, then I don't think there is a way to fund your development.

As for incubators etc., they are probably not all that interested in a BitTorrent implementation, considering how many are already around? Unless of course the library provided some value nobody else does.

7steps2much··on Many small queries are efficient in SQLite
It all depends on how much/how complex data you have. SQLite is a database after all, you can query it with SQL and do lots of fancy stuff that might be hard to do with regular file formats like JSON or XML.

If you just need a config file or only have a small amount of data you can use XML/JSON files that you parse yourself. If you are going to have loads of data that needs some structure (for example messages in a messaging app) i would use SQLite.

Thats exactly what it was all about! You basically made a database, attached a frontend with some forms etc. and you were good to go!

In Austria Apple maps are pretty much unusable. Unless you are in a big city and only want to use main roads you are better of just walking in the general direction and hoping for the best.

> the absolute worst case of using Tor is no worse than the best case of not using Tor

While this is true I just wanted to point out that one does in fact not need *all* the nodes. It is possible to perform traffic analysis and infer which nodes are used by a certain user even if the attacker only controls a part of the nodes. [1]

While this of course doesn't change the fact that using tor is a good idea, one should not let themselves be lured into a wrong feeling of security when using tor.

7steps2much··on The Queen has more power over British law than we thought
It is important to note that these "monarchial disposals" as you call them were used to get rid of monarchs that abused their powers, led their nation into wars, commited horrendus crimes, etc.

While you can take away their powers pretty easily via a law everything else, such as striping their wealth, would be punishment that needs to be justified. The Queen hasn't started any wars or genocides as far as I am aware, so how would you justify this punishment?

Her being a royal is completely legal after all!

7steps2much··on The Queen has more power over British law than we thought
You definitely need grounds to exile them / strip their wealth.

Taking away their political powers / their status as royals is one thing, but exiling someone is punishment. You can't just hand out punishment for no good reason.

If they commited crimes that were illegal at the time they were commited they should stand trial for that, but I very much doubt any of those are serious enough to warrant exile.

7steps2much··on The Queen has more power over British law than we thought
I think what the other commenter was trying to say was not that it would be impossible to do so, but that it would not be "right", so to speak.

While you could of course exile them like other countries have done in the past, why would you do that? What reasoning would you use to justify exiling them, striping them of their personal property etc. ?

Abolishing the monarchy is one thing, it can be justified pretty easily, the interests of the people. Anything beyond that however would be punishment, what have they done that is currently illegal that warrants that punishment? Punishing them simply "because they are royals" doesn't really work out, that isn't illegal after all.

Technically just abolishing the monarchy / taking away their powers would suffice.
