7bit··on Redditor buys used CPU, turns out it was banned on Valorant and they are SoL
Esports was serious loooong before Riot games existed.
7bit··on Git 3.0's upcoming SHA-256 default will be a costly mistake
Sorry, no. For trusting code there is code signing. A sha-1 hash is cryptographically the wrong approach for it or we wouldn't have RSA and ECDSA algos.
7bit··on Typst makes big strides
I wrote my first paper (nothing to publich, just for university) ever and went from typst to latest last minute because I got scared and went with the template of a studi-colleague. I heard latex was bad, but it's much worse than I could have ever anticipated.

I took the time off uni to migrate back to typst because I refuse to submit to the psychological warfare that is latex ever again.

7bit··on Goodbye Google
Only if you are cognitively challenged.
7bit··on Pentagon says overreliance on AI contributed to missile strike on Iran school
Bullshit. Iranians are not white in the eyes of general white US Americans, regardless of whether your argument is correct or not.
7bit··on Pentagon says overreliance on AI contributed to missile strike on Iran school
It's weird how killing 124 is not murder in the eyes of US law, and the people responsible are not tried for murder.
7bit··on German court rules Meta liable for scam ads on Facebook and Instagram
Because that's not how any of this works.
7bit··on SAML: A fractal of bad design
Why are you using an authorization protocol for authentication? Try OIDC.
7bit··on UTF-8000: Unlimited UTF-8
Utf-16 is famously used by Windows for everything important as well.
7bit··on Leaving DigitalOcean, one site at a time
Great read. Great resolve.
7bit··on Vinix – A modern operating system written in V
One look at the memory consumption the the calculator app should answer your question.
7bit··on Autism is genetic – and why this information matters now
The comment you're replying to isn't talking about predictions now, isnt it?
7bit··on Performance Improvements in .NET 11
Really? I got bored throughout the 7 paragraph (or whatever number) in unrelated introduction.
7bit··on Most people prefer traditional architecture
Because the commenter you're replying to has no idea what brutalism is, and is confusing a ugly concrete block with holes in it with brutalism.
7bit··on Ubuntu 26.10 completes transition to Rust-based coreutils
What approach would you suggest for priorisation of tickets?
7bit··on Object storage is all you need
> The blog presents a thought provoking question: what if we don't actually need a full-blown database, and instead we only care about things like unique constraints, transactions, indices, and history tables.

This sound like: what if we dont actually need a table and instead we only care about four legs and a wooden plate.

7bit··on No Man's Sky Cosmos
I do not have high hopes. It's been 10 years of constant NMS updates but the game still has nothing that keeps me hooked. Everything feels insignificant to me, every interaction is like the one before and the one that comes next. They added stuff to the game, but it just feels like more of the same. Light No Fire will surely be just more of the same.
7bit··on Tell HN: OpenAI brings back 5 hour limit for plus and business standard users
What kind of nonsense argument is this
7bit··on “Tweet” and the bird logo apparently enter the public domain
I don't think he'd be able to come up with this.
7bit··on Windows 11's "special" developer edition looks like another marketing misfire
Bad example.

AC and radio don't turn themselves on every time yu start the car. The typically need to be turned on.

Distractions in Windows are turned ON BY DEFAULT, like MS store suggestions or MS edge forcing you through the first run wizard, etc etc

7bit··on Git hosting that never leaves Europe
Europe isn't a country, you know?
7bit··on Google will limit how much memory Android apps can use from February 2027
Obviously, phone owners should be able to set these limits and not have them dictated by a corporation.

But I still want to hope that this could be a first step to remind developers to build efficient and optimised apps.

Giving users a way to limit memory consumption per app won't solve this, it can only be solved by limiting it on the grand scale and that will never happen, if you give people only the means but no defsults. I think, the most sensible way would be to set default limits but ultimately the phone owner decide which limits to set.

7bit··on Git hosting that never leaves Europe
Thinking that European countries don't have freedom of speech or press tells me all I have to know about you and where to put your comment
7bit··on US diesel prices hit a record high of $5.85 on average
No -- and that wasnt a complaint. It was downright an attack.

It always makes me laugh when people can't follow an argument or chain of thought -- or misconstrue because they need to win random Internet arguments

7bit··on US diesel prices hit a record high of $5.85 on average
Bro what the heck are you talking about.

Maybe Google vassals and you'd be ashamed talking such ignorant nonsense.

But you won't. It's actually on me feeding the troll.

7bit··on US diesel prices hit a record high of $5.85 on average
So what? People in the US should not feel pressured by it, because you have it worse?
7bit··on Creating backup storage sucks

7bit··on Dwarf Fortress is getting the mother of all magic updates
I don't know where the threshold is, but the comparison lacks in the same way that a coloring book doesn't need a tutorial, but a blank paper that has HANGMAN written on it does need one or people don't know how to play it.

You can't say because minecraft doesn't have a tutorial, dwarf fortress doesn't need one either. That's just retarded

7bit··on Dwarf Fortress is getting the mother of all magic updates
He changed the topic with his questions and you fell for his cheap trick. Hahaha
