746F7475··on Critical Update on DAO Vulnerability
Not everyone uses (I'm assuming) Twitter
746F7475··on Statistics for Hackers [video]
Yes, I am aware, but I'm very much in favor of removing the useless jack. I have already transitioned into using bluetooth earpuds and headphones with my mobile devices and laptops, and I will never go back to cables.
746F7475··on Statistics for Hackers [video]
Yeah, because people don't know how to mix audio plug your jack only half way in and risk it getting loose.

This is like if some guy was punching people on the street, instead of removing the guy you'd just tell people to duck.

746F7475··on Samsung Acquires Joyent
Considering Samsung has been known to push for proprietary technology (they tried to create market of Android apps that would only work on Samsung's phones) I'm little worried there is going to be some sort of new node.js fork that's incompatible with current one and has some weird licensing stuff or something.
746F7475··on Why I’m done with Apple
>What does grate is is that I can’t even get a day’s charge out of it

Then you are doing something seriously wrong. My iPhone's batter lasts 3-4 days on a single charge. I use it for GPS and podcast/spotify consumption through out the day.

I don't know why everyone keeps yelling about smartphones and smartwatches not lasting even for a day. All I can think of is that they are playing games or using some constantly connecting social media app(s) through out the day.

746F7475··on The simple things I want in a text editor
Vim has been fine for me
746F7475··on The New Space Race
Doubtful
746F7475··on The New Space Race
Yeah... For some reason everyone who is interested in this stuff is SpaceX fanboy and when Blue Origin released their success after SpaceX's failure(s) everyone just seemed to be little them. Then SpaceX did theirs and everyone went nuts over it.
746F7475··on The New Space Race
Begging for Internet points... shame....
746F7475··on Tech Giants Vow to Tackle Online Hate Speech Within 24 Hours
Why are people so easily offended these days? why can't they just filter out the comments based on their content (like I do for example) instead of forcing their "safe spaces" on rest of us.
746F7475··on Search Bangs
Wish Google would support this. Then again I've already become accustomed to writing !g at the end of all my search queries.

I love bangs, but DDG's results are still very subpar

746F7475··on Do Police Body Cameras Really Work?
Personally I wouldn't care if every public/restaurant/whatever bathroom had a camera, why should I? The stalls aren't going to have them, it would just increase over all security and it wouldn't take away any of your privacy, unless you are very weird about people knowing that you too visit the bathroom at times.

Unless you are up to something illegal public cameras shouldn't be an issue in the West where we still have rights to do normal stuff

746F7475··on Do Police Body Cameras Really Work?
So what was wrong with the "activate a mechanism (maybe a button) to disable the camera for few minutes"? Then there is no issues like this, unless of course the cop gets attacked in the bathroom, but that's not super likely, so let's not worry about it
746F7475··on Do Police Body Cameras Really Work?
Comes with the job, there are plenty of other jobs where you can have your smart phone shit
746F7475··on Do Police Body Cameras Really Work?
>it's just because people don't like being watched 24/7

Unless you work at very odd hours, you probably aren't out on the streets 24/7. You are most likely on the streets for 4-6 hours a day, which really isn't that big of a deal. As for checking smartphones, maybe, just maybe, when police are out protecting people they shouldn't be hanging on social media or playing games on their phones? If you don't want to "get caught" using a smart phone, leave it at your locker. About shitting, maybe there could be a mechanism to turn off the camera for few minutes, so you could do your bathroom stuff in private and there really wouldn't be anyway way to abuse it since you'd see from the context of the video what was going on, e.g. if you are approaching a suspect, then video cuts off for a minute and next thing we see is bloodied suspect then obviously the cop should get penalized for that.

746F7475··on “Eat, sleep, code, repeat” is such bullshit
Man, people really do get butthurt over all kind of stupid shit.
746F7475··on Google moves to replace Flash with HTML5
Absolutely nothing, if your video site is still using flash you are already way behind the times.
746F7475··on Destruction of large numbers of jobs by robots unlikely, says new OECD Study
But again what if he needs to take a shit? I don't know about you, but I can't do my business and wipe well in less than 3 minutes, so the trucks stand there. Then there's the ~30min lunch break, that's 10 trucks just idling in the worst case scenario. Then just plain human interaction.

It's not just a factor if he can possibly fill every truck by himself, there are other human factors to consider. You need at least two men manning the station all the time for the autonomous trucks to refill there + maybe a spare guy for regular folk who come to visit.

746F7475··on Chrome removes Backspace to go back
Well, maybe it's time to stop using inferior shit products and buy a proper mouse. Any $20 mouse from your local department store has at least one button to press with your thumb.
746F7475··on Destruction of large numbers of jobs by robots unlikely, says new OECD Study
Except the employees are going to need breaks in between working and I'm going to just guess that manning a gas station in the middle of desert alone makes you insane pretty fast. So at least double that salary estimate if you truly want to keep things rolling with 1 truck every 3 minutes.
746F7475··on Destruction of large numbers of jobs by robots unlikely, says new OECD Study
>Ask any newly graduated lawyer trying to get a job.

Is this actually a global thing? I mean does this apply to smaller cities as well?

746F7475··on Chrome removes Backspace to go back
>it's infeasible to make the now missing feature a configuration option.

Isn't Chromium opensource? I'm sure they'll accept your pull request.

746F7475··on Chrome removes Backspace to go back
> So make them an option and stop taking the Chrome route of stripping out everything that more advanced users use regularly.

Did you really use backspace and "move back" on regular basis? Why? You most likely aren't browsing the web with just your keyboard, so unless you are a leftie it requires you to either move your hand back to keyboard or move your hand across the whole keyboard and why would you do either of these when you can just move back with your mouses thumb button?

746F7475··on New Sublime Text update
Well, for one it's not Vim ;)
746F7475··on Tesla Model S autonomously crashes into a parked trailer while in ‘summon’ mode
Isn't autopilot appropriate name? Like autopilot in planes doesn't just fly the whole plane and do everything needed.
746F7475··on Show HN: Speech Coaching App – Stop Saying 'Umm', 'Like', 'Uhh'
I don't think chat needs stuff like that. It doesn't give anything to the conversation, you could just think in silence
746F7475··on Show HN: Speech Coaching App – Stop Saying 'Umm', 'Like', 'Uhh'
Well, it shows in some people's typing as well. They try to imitate their verbal communication and actually type "hmmm" or something like that. Drives me nuts.
746F7475··on Save Firefox
I thought from the title that this was a plea for Mozilla to rewrite Firefox from scratch since it such a bloated mess
746F7475··on Introducing WhatsApp's Desktop App
You can get smart phones for like $20 and if they are not used for anything the service costs are like $5/mo
746F7475··on Firefox Test Pilot
Just gave it a 10 seconds and decided this is not for me. Very first thing I enabled (Tabcenter) made Firefox completely unusable to a point where I couldn't even disable the feature or uninstall the plugin. Thankfully these pieces are named nicely in ~/.mozilla/firefox/<profile>/extensions and thus can be removed manually.

Of course to even to read this advice after fucking up you need to know about firefox's -P startup option.
