6t6t6t6··on OpenAI drops ban on military tools to partner with The Pentagon
Those deals are not made in one week. Maybe this agreement with the Pentagon has something to do with the drama of a couple of months ago.
6t6t6t6··on MRSK: Deploy web apps anywhere
I wouldn't be so sure knowing the stubbornness of DHH...
6t6t6t6··on MRSK: Deploy web apps anywhere
The value proposition of MRSK is to deploy servers on a few machines that you physically own.

Their focus is not on serverless-cloud-native-infinite-scaling.

6t6t6t6··on 2022 letter on life in China
Some years ago, Chinese immigrants came to Japan and were looked down upon as cheap labour. Nowadays, Chinese investors are buying the best real estate in Japan, and Chinese tourists are the main customers of the luxury brand shops in Omotesando.

Japan is a country where each generation is poorer than the generation before. In China, you can give your kids a better life than the one you had.

6t6t6t6··on It’s Costing Peanuts for the US to Defeat Russia
Has Russia been defeated, though?

They may not have fulfilled all their main goals to a 100%. However, they seem to be still occupying large amounts of territory that belonged to the Ukrainian government, including most of the Dombas and the water sources of Crimea.

6t6t6t6··on Emergency SOS via satellite
I think that you are watching Fox News a bit too much.
6t6t6t6··on Ask HN: Have you stopped reading most news?
The problem is when you are using propaganda as the source of information that the life of your family depends on.
6t6t6t6··on What would a “good” WebMD look like?
Most public healthcare systems provide excellent treatments for the majority of the population. And, if you have some rare condition that can only be treated with some state-of-the-art cure that is only provided by some hospital out of the country, and you have several hundred thousand $$$ in your bank account, nobody will stop you from paying the treatment from your pocket.
6t6t6t6··on 134.5 kg Concrete Bike [video]
Or just have kids.

I am picking up a 16kg and a 12kg masses several times a day, and I am sure that this keeps me in shape. Basically, because I didn't have time to go to the gym in the last five years.

6t6t6t6··on Collapse of emergency healthcare in England may be costing 500 lives every week
Exactly. They should know better and vote for governments that are aligned with the US government's interests, so they don't need to go through a CIA-sponsored coup.

6t6t6t6··on Ask HN: What's the next big thing that few people are talking about?
As someone who has done genetic screening to avoid passing a genetic illness to my children, it is not as easy as it seems.

In every IVF session, if you are young and healthy, they may be able to extract around ten eggs. Of those ten eggs, 50% will valid and will get fecundated. You are down to 5. Then, in our case, 50% of the embryos will be carriers and have to be discarded. You are down to two or three that can be implanted. And, from those, you are lucky if one gets implanted in the womb correctly and produces a baby.

What I mean it's that you can choose to a level, but you are quite limited by numbers, even if the technology improves or you are luckier, and you can get more embryos to choose from each IVF cycle.

All that, while the mother needs to be taking a massive amount of hormones that will make her gain weight, feel tired, etc... It's not a walk in the park.

By the way, we joked about the "boutique baby" with the doctor, and she told us that there are many traits that they could select but that it was illegal for them to do so.

6t6t6t6··on Facebook's TikTok-like redesign marks sunset of social networking era
Facebook cares about their customers, which are the companies that want to use its AD network.

Users are not customers.

6t6t6t6··on Battery cost declines raise prospects of all-electric container shipping
> Also, what about windmills on the ship itself?

You mean, like sails?

6t6t6t6··on Goodbye, Clean Code (2020)
I think that the problem of this article is the Dan equates DRY code with clean code. Dryer is not always cleaner.
6t6t6t6··on Tell HN: Tesla rear-ended me on autopilot, no one will investigate
My $300 OPPO phone alerts me when there's dust in front of the lens... Maybe maybe Tesla could benefit from some similar technology.
6t6t6t6··on John McAfee found dead in Spanish jail after court approves extradition to US
1- You have watched lots of films.

2- You have probably never been outside of US.

3- No... You cannot bribe your way into a Spanish (or any other EU country) prison in order to kill someone.

6t6t6t6··on John McAfee found dead in Spanish jail after court approves extradition to US
He died in a Catalan prison, not in US. Even if the US government had really any reason to kill him, sending an agent to prison in a foreign country to fake a suicide, when he was going to get extradited anyway, seems a bit hard to believe.

The other explanation -that the policemen in the Catalan prison were useless enough to let him hang himself without them realizing- seems more plausible.

6t6t6t6··on Ask HN: Feeling guilty for doing the bare minimum at work
If you work 3 hours a day but you deliver decent code and you are not on the way, you are not a problem for your manager. He knows that you are slow, but you don't give him problems, so he is ok.

A hyper motivated developers who starts lots of projects and don't finish them, or who writes buggy code, or who creates social problems in the team, will raise more red flags than a "slow but consistent developer".

6t6t6t6··on Bumble closes to give 'burnt-out' staff a week's break
Good luck if you plan on having kids after 40 though...
6t6t6t6··on Bumble closes to give 'burnt-out' staff a week's break
You guys check work email and work Slack when on holidays?
6t6t6t6··on China allows couples to have three children
Sinophobic propaganda on English speaking Internet has reached an amazing level. It's quite amazing how this can get unchecked so much.
6t6t6t6··on FragAttacks: new security vulnerabilities that affect wi-fi devices
That would work, as far as you don't plan on using your cell phone at home.
6t6t6t6··on Why keyboard shortcuts don't work on non-US layouts and how devs could fix it
That's why I switched to American keyboard some time ago.
6t6t6t6··on Idempotence now prevents pain later
I used to be an operator in night shift in my twenties and the job was exactly how you said. Good memories. Lots of sleeping at work and some days of panic when shit broke.

And a lot of "secret" scripts that automated a big part of our job.

6t6t6t6··on European court of human rights rules obligatory vaccination may be necessary
As far as you want to interact with them, yes.
6t6t6t6··on Why Japan can't shake sexism
> But Ive had a few very enlightening conversations with Japanese women who want more opportunities

I met a lot of brilliant young women in my company whose goal in life is to marry, stop working and raise kids. Women with a degree in law or economics that will stay less than 5 years in the workforce.

The problem of sexism in Japan is really complicated.

6t6t6t6··on The U.S. Air Force just admitted the F-35 stealth fighter has failed
Yemeni people celebrating weddings?
6t6t6t6··on Ask HN: How to increase SWE salaries in Europe?
Just out of curiosity. What would happen if, for any reason, you lose the capacity to work for a couple of years? Let's say that you have a bad accident that affects your hands, or you get a depression.
6t6t6t6··on I now have an Oculus paperweight
There should be a service that logs into your facebook account and posts mememes once a month.
6t6t6t6··on Why America Is Losing the Toilet Race
> heated seat (although I never use it)

Really? After living for some years in Japan, I feel almost traumatized when I go to Europe in winter and I have to sit in a cold toilet.
