6SixTy··on Man still alive six months after pig kidney transplant
Yes
6SixTy··on Man still alive six months after pig kidney transplant
Fun fact: the nerves between the brain and heart are never reattached. A heart already has all of the facilities to keep working all by itself.

Even weirder is that an adult kidney transplanted into a child will actually shrink to fit.

6SixTy··on Linux for Nintendo 64 (1997)
I was skeptical about this claim, as the NES and Famicom are pretty simple at the end of the day, and apparently the NESWiki[1] says that there's a second CPU handling modem capabilies with UART communication to a modem controller. Usually networking gear before VLSI has a second off the shelf CPU on the board.

6SixTy··on AOMedia Announces Year-End Launch of Next-Gen Video Codec AV2
AV1 is really one of those things born out of internet providers (e.g. Google, Amazon) put together so they can deliver content more efficiently with their bandwidth without needing to deal with a complicated web of royalties in addition to paying said royalties. There's plenty of people using AV1 or it's image format but don't realize it.

Also, video encoding pretty much always comes with the tradeoff of more efficient = uses more processing power

6SixTy··on Airbus B612 Cockpit Font
One thing I've noticed with this font though is that the square and round brackets look very close to each other.

One of the Monaspace family fonts is very aesthetically similar to B612, but the round bracket is very exaggerated compared to the square bracket.

6SixTy··on FFmpeg Assembly Language Lessons
sqlite is probably our best example. The project touts use within Airbus A350 and DO-178B certification.
6SixTy··on FFmpeg Assembly Language Lessons
Safety critical systems say hello.
6SixTy··on Blurry rendering of games on Mac
Is it me or is a 6 year old product on 14nm against whatever isn't exactly the most level of comparisons?
6SixTy··on US Coast Guard Report on Titan Submersible
Carbon Fiber just isn't suited for submarine type of loads. It really doesn't like being compressed, and it tends to give you no warning before snapping.
6SixTy··on Linux 6.16: faster file systems, improved confidential memory, more Rust support
Would most people rather have a cell phone picture of the screen for debug logs, or a QR code that has those logs ready to be scanned and copy/pasted?
6SixTy··on High-performance RISC-V processors: UltraRISC UR-DP1000, Zhihe A210, SpacemIT K3
Pretty much my issue is that the one that is the closest to shipping is also the one missing V instructions. I am far more skeptical over potential processors especially after Horse Creek just vanished into thin air.
6SixTy··on High-performance RISC-V processors: UltraRISC UR-DP1000, Zhihe A210, SpacemIT K3
No V instruction set is going to be a big handicap though, as that's pretty much RISC-V's equivalent of AVX and missing those instructions is going to suck big time.
6SixTy··on GlobalFoundries to Acquire MIPS
Reducing reliance on foreign IP. RISC-V is open source/public domain so no sanctions or export control can be leveraged against the IP.
6SixTy··on 7-Zip for Windows can now use more than 64 CPU threads for compression
.7z and .tar.* have existed for at least 20 years now, but you are unlikely to see a wild 7z file and .tar.* is isolated to the UNIX space
6SixTy··on GlobalFoundries to Acquire MIPS
There are a lot of different CPU IP vendors working on RISC-V. China's a big source of it, and I shouldn't have to explain why.
6SixTy··on GOP tax bill would sell off USPS's brand-new EVs
If most other last mile delivery companies (e.g. UPS) weren't already commissioning their own delivery vans, then I would say that any one of them could pick up the slack.`
6SixTy··on A new hairlike electrode for long-term, high-quality EEG monitoring
This is actually an improvement on the lead electrode technology, making them smaller and improving the scalp adhesion for better fidelity. Ostensibly, you would still need an array of them for medical diagnoses, like isolating and/or monitoring a seizure to a particular portion of the brain.
6SixTy··on Minimal Linux Bootloader
It's not supposed to be better than lilo, just code golf. Limine is pretty much the only serious bootloader gunning for the spot lilo/elilo was going for.
6SixTy··on Minimal Linux Bootloader (2018)
Kind of cool, but being exclusively for BIOS/MBR kind of kills my excitement.
6SixTy··on A $20k American-made electric pickup with no paint, no stereo, no screen
A lot of delivery vehicles used to have convex mirror behind to give an idea where the bumper is.
6SixTy··on Evertop: E-ink IBM XT clone with 100+ hours of battery life
Well, the creator chose to use a regular ESP32, which is Xtensa based, and is poorly suited for this type of application.

It's really weird anyways because the ESP32 fairly old nor as useful as something like the C6 which on paper could run Linux but without floating point.

6SixTy··on Evertop: E-ink IBM XT clone with 100+ hours of battery life
Then search for Raspberry Pi laptop cases and go for the one that can hold your choice of eink display + driver?
6SixTy··on Chroma, Ubisoft's internal tool used to simulate color-blindness, open sourced
I would assume that most of the code is the way it is because "helping users flag accessibility concerns in real-time" in the about implies that they are play testing games using Chroma on top. Using OBS for this would require insane bitrate and tight latency restraints that do not sound very achievable.

Also, at no point does it look like they are actually recording anything. Just screenshots.

6SixTy··on Rebuilding Prime Video UI with Rust and WebAssembly
Wikipedia says that Flutter can be transpiled to WebAssembly for web deployment.
6SixTy··on Fedora change aims for 99% package reproducibility
That's, in my experience, mostly Debian Stable.
6SixTy··on InitWare, a portable systemd fork running on BSDs and Linux
Kind of the main issue doing that is that Apple developed launchd behind closed doors, releasing periodically to open source. That kind of environment doesn't exactly inspire confidence that launchd on Linux could remain in sync with the main branch for very long nor that Apple will play nice with FOSS devs.
6SixTy··on DEDA – Tracking Dots Extraction, Decoding and Anonymisation Toolkit
Get a silkscreen kit if you really care that much. Also allows you to print T-Shirts.
6SixTy··on Xfinity XB3 hardware mod: Disable WiFi and save 2 watts
The XB3 hardware isn't new. I was given one circa 2017 and now knowing that they used Intel Puma makes so much sense now.
6SixTy··on MAME 0.276
Contemporary arcade games are usually just a PC in a box with external arcade specific hardware making up everything else. Probably better to hack the game into thinking it's running on the right hardware than the other way around at this point.
6SixTy··on Why a plane turned around when a passenger lost a phone midflight
The official training video by the FAA outlines that crew should extinguish the fire with onboard equipment and keep it cool with water to prevent it from thermal runaway again. In one outline, FAA doesn't endorse putting it in a bag or touching it any further than it needs to be, and another in response to commercial "FAA approved" products for lithium battery fires, does not endorse nor discourage using such products.
