698969··on Svelte 5: Runes
maybe super specific to this comment but onMount isn't going away, it could be replaced with $effect from an implementation standpoint, but it would be wildly confusing if used for that purpose without the clearer name for the wrapper
698969··on Bun v0.8
I wonder if Bun would already be past 1.0 if all the time spent doing the "bundler" stuff was instead spent on the runtime itself.

Did Jarred think that having a weaker variant of every feature in the Javascript world would somehow make it more attractive? Why was "bun build ..." considered better or necessary when there is `bunx esbuild ...`

https://github.com/oven-sh/bun/issues/159

I like that it's trying to be a faster Node, and the better native database drivers etc. Having a decent package manager alongside is also nice but anything else makes me question the long term vision/feasibility of Oven and Bun's maintenance.

I know very few altruist humans. Whenever someone puts up some content online I believe there is always some motive from the author to benefit themselves even if it's subconscious. Perhaps through ad revenue or exposure from their blog/OSS project or just the dopamine of fake internet points from answering questions on forums. A human may particularly like your content and keep coming back to it or spread it with attribution.

But you don't get any of that from an LLM.

Then most people stop writing books because they can't get paid for their time/effort and ~every child will be stuck with outdated knowledge within a decade.
698969··on EdgeDB 3.0
Last time I looked at EdgeDB, it needed a separate process/server from the Postgres database. Has that changed since then? Would it be possible to turn EdgeDB into an extension of sorts rather than running it in a separate process?
698969··on Children 13, 9, 4, and 1 found alive in jungle 40 days after plane crash
I think GP was making a joke implying those were numeric identifiers for the children rather than their age, and that the identifiers had to be sequential.

Kinda like https://www.hornfans.com/threads/the-ol-chickens-in-the-scho...

698969··on Rebuilding a featured news section with modern CSS: Vox news
> That technique of using a style tag to set a CSS var (--horizontal) then using @container tags to shift the UI is really cool

That sounds like using a feature for the sake of using a feature. Couldn't the same be done with a class on the container?

698969··on Ask HN: Why do many CS graduates lack foundational knowledge?
> If I have a choice of making single job faster vs just running 64 jobs in parallel on CPU I'd pick the second every time I can because code will be simpler and less buggy every single time.

I maybe misunderstanding what you're trying to say, don't you mean you'd pick the first one every time? Make the single job faster instead of introducing concurrency with 64 parallel jobs?

What do you mean by international teaching? In other countries? If so, which one(s)?
