5ilv3r··on Facebook deploys AI for early signs of suicide
I know this is horribly cynical, but dead man's friends will probably be highly engaged with the platform afterward. Facebook will find a way to monetize it.
5ilv3r··on Facebook Still Letting Housing Advertisers Exclude Users by Race
It's absolutely morally indefensible to refuse services because of what someone was born as.
5ilv3r··on Why the Update Fever Is Bad
People would rather use a functional but insecure tool than a broken secure one. No question. It's hard for devs to understand that for some reason.
5ilv3r··on There are over a billion outdated Android devices in use
Isn't it telling that the antifeatures pushed by the updates are so much worse than the threat of data interception?
5ilv3r··on There are over a billion outdated Android devices in use
Old device user here. The frequency of exploits is going up, so older devices with few features and small attack surface are safer than new devices with the bells and whistles and a bigger attack surface. Basically, fuck you to the assholes pushing updates. They are doing it wrong and I reject them. I will accept no update with antifeatures, no matter how much they say it is good for me.
5ilv3r··on There are over a billion outdated Android devices in use
Stop bundling antifeatures into security updates and maybe people will want them.
5ilv3r··on Missouri Attorney General launches investigation of Google
That'd be a fine option if it was a real option.
5ilv3r··on Wikileaks today published the source code HIVE – CIA malware control platforms
Now watch, they got caught with hands in the cookie jar, and there's going to be a bunch of pitchforks out for wikileaks not catching all the other kids stealing cookies. It's gross and childish.
5ilv3r··on CIA created code to impersonate Kaspersky Lab: WikiLeaks
Funny how morals don't scale...
5ilv3r··on How my third email reminder from HR motivated me to launch my startup
Thanks for listening. :)
5ilv3r··on How my third email reminder from HR motivated me to launch my startup
> Hope you are using an iPad or iPhone

Why would you hope that? Most mere working folk are struggling to get by. Keep your audience in mind. Make it small, tight, and fast.

Constructive criticism: Your site looks like crap on a small display. Please anchor the info bars to the top and bottom of the page, not the screen.

5ilv3r··on Starcraft II goes free-to-play seven years after launch
Personally I just stay away from virtual online economies. Fun with an RTS here and there is fine, but if I'm going to sink my life into getting rich, it better be real.
5ilv3r··on Starcraft II goes free-to-play seven years after launch
Nope! They just leak a lot of hydraulic fluid.
5ilv3r··on Rivals Intel and AMD Team Up on PC Chips to Battle Nvidia
That's not true at all. Cost is king. Only flagship products care about pushing size down.
5ilv3r··on Chrome breaks the Web
Strong-arming the spec is bad.
5ilv3r··on A look at inner workings of Joycon and Nintendo Switch
Looking at this in the other direction, this is giving them quite a bit of profit now with lots of room to lower the price to remain competitive later. Nintendo is just posturing to undercut the next gen releases from sony and ms.
5ilv3r··on Against an Increasingly User-Hostile Web
I had an idea for something like this. I found a fictional device called a memex on wikipedia, and I figured that it would be very easy to implement simply searching your browser cache from the address bar. Obviously the cache will need to be big and persistent, but man it sure would be useful.
5ilv3r··on Against an Increasingly User-Hostile Web
I am hoping that http2 crap protocol will attract all the ecommerce nasties and leave http as the obvious choice for static documents.
5ilv3r··on AT&T Phones Adding Unknown Recipients from Different Area Code to Group Texts
Hard to tell where the problems are between the carrier and handset are nowadays. Thanks for pointing that out. I missed it.
5ilv3r··on AT&T Phones Adding Unknown Recipients from Different Area Code to Group Texts
I've seen it and I'm pretty sure this is an android bug. I noticed that in lollipop, contacts with the same number but different area codes are not treated differently in the messaging UI.

Tmobile with an old cyanogen build.

5ilv3r··on Google Docs Is Randomly Flagging Files for Violating Its Terms of Service
It'd be great if it worked right.
5ilv3r··on Google Docs Is Randomly Flagging Files for Violating Its Terms of Service
That happens to me often. When my home ip changes and k9 mail connects for the first time to gmail, they always lock my account out until I log in from a desktop they recognize. Freaky freaky.
5ilv3r··on Facebook denies 'listening' to conversations
They don't at all deny listening to conversations in this article. They only deny using that information for advertising.

Now about the confirmation bias thing, it seems more likely to me that your credit card history or the store member card purchase history is being mined.

5ilv3r··on Monsanto Attacks Scientists After Studies Show Trouble for Its New Weedkiller
I've noticed that a lot of similar comments will be deleted if you simply respond "shill". Sure, it's rude, but a real person will argue with you. A shill will delete to avoid being associated with the accusation.
5ilv3r··on Tech workers worry about age discrimination at age 40: Study
Money trumped affirmative action and ageism in one fell swoop. They needed experienced sales people.

json and xml are visually balanced. All beginnings have an end. I have trouble with yaml because it lacks that.
