533474··on RIAA Obtains Subpoenas Targeting 40 YouTube-Ripping Platforms and Pirate Sites
Why are most posts about piracy? If you put your content in youtube, it is there to be downloaded or archived. The platform might not survive the test of time. Torrent sites and legal/fair-use tools such as youtube-dl help preserve humanity. How many times were you able to obtain an obscure book only found in 2 libraries around the world? Or a music album from a once popular orchestra, nowehere to be found in retail channels? Or a TV episode archived and never to be broadcasted or lost in a hurricane?...We as Americans have the duty to preserve humanity and by humanity I mean our individual rights. Let law enforcement to prosecute those who profit from copyrighted works. But information dissemination? how can society move forward like this?
533474··on Ask HN: Jack-of-all-trades of HN, how do you approach job search?
Does your wife earn enough for u to quit and look for a new satisfying job? It might be worth a try. Otherwise, she is selfish, sorry. Hope you find remote opportunities otherwise, good luck!

We need more stories like this. I can relate. There is too much survivorship bias in society. To those trapped in the pit of hopelessness, don't give a f*. I apologize for my language, but crude as it is, it has solved a lot of my mental weaknesses.

I would say to everyone trying to fit in a world that looks for cultural fits - do not try to put a mask, find those like you and be straightforward to recruiters. Some will resonate with you and others will just brush u off.

Without sidelining to ideologies, I feel that society really needs to think again about a basic income to sustain human life. It is easier said than done but it is also easier said to people to 'fit' as a jack of all trades in an specialized world. Sometimes it is easy but most of the time, it is crushingly difficult.

Curious question, does ur country of origin allow for double citizenship? I suspect that is the reason.

Otherwise, pardon me, I'd be shocked the UK keeps on growing inwardly and isolated from the rest. I just hope that they embrace the rest of the world as their leaders say. The US would love to have a closer relationship and I suppose other non-european countries too.

This doesn't work for people in the autistic spectrum. It will just tire you and frustrate you, you have been warned. As for others, I this advice might prove useful. I guess the solution is to look for an job that doesn't emphasize neurotypical personalities. Or just be straightfoward to the people you meet; not everyone has to fit the extrovert card.
533474··on Ask HN: Please stop writing tutorials/tech articles on Medium
Why not provide a static hosted mirror of the article?. Medium is bloated and slow. I miss the days when people had personal blogs
533474··on Asking Microsoft to resign from the RIAA over YouTube-dl takedown demand
Microsoft employees! raise the issue, make yourselves heard!, this is a horrible precedent to the developer community and a shot in the coffin for centralised git repositories!

His understanding was correct. Open source is not the same [1]. It might be an alternative but it is not the same as free software.

There are movements such as the FSF and EFF. Why not join and get ur voice heard?...or perhaps start a new movement, not separate to those that already exist, but complementary and cooperative
533474··on YouTube-dl source code encoded in two images
That and us, americans who keep on voting for incompetent fools...Is the FSF able to help in this case if it were a project in their organization? how can devs unite and fight against this type of bullying?...honestly, most of HN keeps on demonizing the FSF when they can be a legal force against cases like these...now we are all fragmented and weak
533474··on YouTube-dl source code encoded in two images
Look at the FSF, EFF...old MIT wizards went through the same...we should avoid centralised hosting for projects like these or be bullied into closing them by lobby groups
533474··on I reverse engineered McDonalds’ internal API
It is all hipsters now; hackers having fun not for profit r long gone in another era. Lets see how fast this kid gets himself behind bars for trying to outwit a corporation. I agree that he overdid it but he might only see his wrongdoing in hindsight. I'm glad my comment picked up some steam; we are too locked in chains behind rules nowadays, kids can't have a little fun anymore. He can be a valuable asset to any company than falling in the hands of real criminals behind bars
533474··on I reverse engineered McDonalds’ internal API
Sarcasm aside -- I hope this guy is joking for real...
533474··on I reverse engineered McDonalds’ internal API
He wouldn't have tweeted it if it was malicious -- he could have even kept it secret. What is it with HN? little pranks, reverse engineering, vulnerabilities, free ice-cream. I do not condone crime but let's be honest, he could have made money with his findings online...the person is just letting his curiosity go wild. If Yelp wants to fire him I'd take him in my company any day.

What about Brave and Icemonkey?
533474··on McMaster-Carr: Beautifully organized and informational industrial product store
Any alternatives in Europe?
533474··on Twitter and Facebook's action over Joe Biden article reignites bias claims
Who cares, the censoring ended up spreading the story. If you are all so unbiased, why can't you just read both sides of the story - it is not like the article has disappeared from the internet...
533474··on Ex-Google boss Eric Schmidt: US 'dropped the ball' on innovation
And let the brain drain go to Europe or China instead?. Or is it statistically possible that the best innovators and skilled individuals are only born in the US?

I do not mind a little competition if we bring people who might improve our technological edge. China is going to surpass the US eventually and oh lord, we are in denial!.

This is my opinion, I am not claiming to know the absolute truth or facts.

533474··on I graduated into the dot com bust as a programmer and made it – you will too
Survivorship bias. Our system is broken, humanity needs a way to encourage success without punishing failure. Failure shouln't be hunger and homelessness...This will be another generation of hopeless dreamers lost in the looming financial depression.

Why is our antidote hope against the adversity of going against all the odds?. Congrats to those who made it but more recognition to those who failed and managed to overcome misery
