Truth always lies in the middle. I suggest to read this article by Hannah Wolfman-Jones with a response from civil-rights expert Nadine Strossen about the whole ordeal and make up your mind [0]. I am indifferent but I think everyone should read the two sides of the story

Try emacs and org-mode sometime. Configurability is off the charts and vi keybindings are easily configurable (and so are the snippets). I loved the workflow, I believe that a mind like yours will also find emacs elisp captivating and I would love to see what you could come up with in that much more flexible ecosystem (I am a former Vim evangelist)

533474··on The Manga Guide Series
If cartoons trigger you, I suppose you may have a problem with oversexualising media. They r just drawings, when I read mangas as a kid I never thought and I still dont think about them that way. Why not notice the cute monsters? or cute dress? Some body proportions are comical, the eyes are drawn to portray emotions in a cute or exaggerated way. There may be a drawing or two that you might call fan-service, but not everyone looks at these cartoons and thinks that this material is for sex predators all the time. In asia not everyone is so triggered or oversexualising everything. Where is the innocence in people? have we lost the ability to look at things differently?
533474··on The Manga Guide Series
You are thinking about this too hard, they are just drawings...some of the manga scenes also portray male kids with adult muscles, it's just comical and light to read. The humour is very different. We all got the right to be silly and playful sometimes, why always so serious?

When you said ancient I thought you refered to musicians in ancient Greece or Rome. Ageism is rampant and we ought to stop this nonsense. Anyhow, great example, it is all inspiring to when we get older...life really keeps on going regardless of age

I agree that humans are a mess. Well done on making it to MIT, it is not the first time I read or hear an experience like yours. Still, some kids are not privileged enough to get good math education but they might be late bloomers. I've met a genius with horrible SAT scores, a late bloomer, self-taught who now publishes in renowned math journals

Did you think that perhaps World of Warcraft kept you sane under those insane working conditions, ina. therapeutic way? Perhaps it was a form of escapism; gaming helped my numb brain find motivation to look for a job later in life
533474··on Sorry everybody, I failed with you
The support structure is different if you go with the FSF - someone can takeover the project and big corps that use the code must contribute back. My take is, choose MIT if u want to give developers convenience (and u don't care if you r flooded with request and lack of attribution). Or choose GPL and the FSF if you care about legacy, organized support structure and end-user value. I even think dual license GPL version / paid version is a better choice than just releasing under MIT...I feel sorry but this story keeps repeating itself, we've been at it for decades and people are just realizing that open source is pointless without organized support groups or monetisation plan that respects developers and users freedoms

533474··on Software maker Altium rejects $3.9B takeover bid from Autodesk
If Apple cared about products they would strive for more competition to push them to create better products and not to cement their monopoly. During Jobs's leadership, yea, they innovated with amazing products but they also stepped up patent trolling, anti-competitive practices and hostile takeovers.

Personally, I don not think the profit-motive alone in a monopolistic market can bring about innovation. It is competition that makes it happen...after all, Apple with Jobs needed to compete and innovate during their difficult years to survive. Now, after cementing their monopoly, they just rode out up until iphone 12...it will take another great company to break this pattern of marketing idealization of the next iphone 15

533474··on Huawei replaces Android with HarmonyOS, which is also Android
Let the best win, isn't that our modern capitalism's answer?

If Huawei is copying they will always lag behind. Still, are they really copying? or are they piecing innovations together into a new improved product?

Give them a break and a chance to bring something new - sanctions and all, it is pretty impressive they have persevered.

I suggest you read more deeply into the legal interpretations; it is not so clear cut as you put it.

A more permissive license is simply incompatible with this project's ideals - they are willing to sacrifice developer convenience for user freedom and prevent corporate theft and bastardization of the codebase into competing products
