52804375092485··on Equifax under pressure after data breach update
Consumer advocacy is inherently leftist politics.

When actual attorney's are talking about legal issues, they'll usually say something like "I am not your lawyer" as a defense against entering into an attorney-client relationship which creates a bunch of complications.

So I guess the "I am not a lawyer" is sort of a corruption of that, a magic spell invoked by not-lawyers to save themselves from not-problems.

52804375092485··on XPS 13 developer edition 7th generation available
I'm optimistic about this product line but I don't think it's there yet. I have a 13" 9360 and while the price was good, it does feel under-powered, specifically the 8G maximum memory configuration with the non-touchscreen.

Mine does have the "coil whine" thing, although it doesn't really bother me since I'm usually wearing headphones when I use it. But overall, the build quality is just pathetic compared to my Macbook, and this is supposed to be a competitor. The touchpad is way worse, the carbon fiber thing is cheesy, the awkwardly fat bezel at the bottom of the display is silly, the fact that you need a $100 dock to connect to external monitors is ridiculous, the webcam is weirdly placed in the bottom left of the display, there are just a bunch of strange/bad design choices.

That was all the bad things - otherwise it's better than any non-Macbook I've used. It's lightweight, small, gets the "little notebook you can take anywhere" niche fairly well. I hope they listen to feedback and iterate, but I can't say I'd eagerly recommend it.

52804375092485··on Among the Tax Bill’s Biggest Losers: High-Income, Blue State Taxpayers
But... this tax bill dramatically _lowers_ taxes on people who make a lot more money or have a lot more assets. So sure, this guy is rich relative to an unemployed coal miner. But you're being a little disingenuous by implying that this guy is remotely close to "the rich" who people commonly think of raising taxes on, and doubly so in implying that people who want higher taxes want them for everyone but themselves. I would gladly pay more in exchange for better services and safety nets.
52804375092485··on America's Growing Gap in Digital Job Skills
> Whether people like to admit it or not, IQ and biological origin are linked.

Can you clarify that? Because it sounds like some pretty racist bad science.

That sounds like all the same problems with defining a "traditional" contract, except now when things go wrong you have to explain what ETH is in civil court, hope the volatility of ETH doesn't make things weird, and also hope your solidity contracts don't include bugs that let people steal your money (or if they do contain bugs, hope you have enough clout to cause a hard fork).

So uh, how far along is your Facebook-killer?
52804375092485··on America’s ‘Retail Apocalypse’ Is Really Just Beginning
If you've got a point to make, don't squander it with an insult and a patronizing tone. It doesn't contribute anything to the conversation.
52804375092485··on Against a Tax Increase on Berkeley Students
I think the part you're missing is that they support raising taxes on the very wealthy, not on college students who are barely scraping by as it is...
52804375092485··on Walmart will soon have robots roaming the aisles in 50 stores
You know a huge portion of the American population is living paycheck to paycheck with no savings right? Most people can't "just" buy a robot and magically join the capitalist class.
52804375092485··on MongoDB shares jump more than 30% in $192M IPO
I can't think of a compelling reason to use Mongo over Cassandra except "we already use it and don't want to change".
