4ndrewl··on Xbox for Sale: Don't Believe Anything Until It Is Officially Denied
Netflixbox

You heard it here first

4ndrewl··on The last time my family was replaced by technology
And he was probably very inquisitive too. Great story.
4ndrewl··on The last time my family was replaced by technology
Sounds amazing. How on earth did he go from shoeing horses to learning about the internal combustion engine? Seems quite the leap that not everyone would be capable of.
4ndrewl··on OpenAI still doesn't seem to have a handle on all of its rogue AI activity
Being bought by nvidia also probably helped...
4ndrewl··on Meta Blocks President Lula's Facebook Page, Campaign Ads 2 Weeks from Election
And yet this is somehow better?
4ndrewl··on Drawgent: Coding agent on a live Excalidraw canvas
More like that content creators are psychopaths?
4ndrewl··on Unsealed Briefs in Authors’ Case v. Microsoft/OpenAI
Never heard of them, but yes they are a lobby company. So they're biased and lobbying for their interests and OAI are biased and lobbying for their interests. That adds a lot of colour.
4ndrewl··on Unsealed Briefs in Authors’ Case v. Microsoft/OpenAI
"This is a lobby organisation using only the pieces and bits they like to push their own agenda."

Do you have any evidence of them being a lobby organisation (as opposed to OpenAI for example which spends millions of dollars hiring actual lobbyists)

4ndrewl··on Drawgent: Coding agent on a live Excalidraw canvas
YMMV, but the value I get from producing a diagram is derived from the thinking. Thinking about what I'm trying to draw leads to understanding about where my/my team's knowledge is poorer, what assumptions we're making, etc.
4ndrewl··on Two-tier encryption in the UK
A terrorist organisation is whatever your government says is a terrorist organisation. Always has been always will be - there's no objective measure.
4ndrewl··on Rails World 2026 Opening Keynote [video]
the algorithm is programmed to deliver it. Better engagement metrics with misery and anger than joy and hopefulness. (yes I know that you will reply 'but I prefer the joy and hope', but that's not the case across the wider population)
4ndrewl··on Two-tier encryption in the UK
> We ejected one of the previous PMs for having a party during a lockdown

Weirdly that never happened, but that's how many people remember it.

He was ejected because he lost the support of his ministers (most of who resigned over a period of a few weeks) after he had made them to go out and lie to the public on his behalf in the case of Chris Pincher MP.

4ndrewl··on My German Exit Tax: 13 Tax Advisors, 1.5 Years, 18.7k€ to leave the country
I'd just sell the companies?
4ndrewl··on Two-tier encryption in the UK
Well they proscribed PA, and showing support for a proscribed organisation _is_ a crime.
4ndrewl··on My German Exit Tax: 13 Tax Advisors, 1.5 Years, 18.7k€ to leave the country
"I wanted to move to Thailand to live with my girlfriend. I own a few companies" seems like tiny violin territory...
4ndrewl··on There is no epidemic of loneliness, but there is an epidemic of scurvy
Except that the most effective way of conveying facts _is_ through narrative and storytelling.

That and powerpoint, obviously.

4ndrewl··on Deodands put a price on objects that caused death
I was really hoping that this would lead into a discussion about Big Tech, but it was just a (interesting) tease.
4ndrewl··on Deodands put a price on objects that caused death
I think that's addressed in the article ( the ladder example)
4ndrewl··on A heap overflow and SSO misconfiguration to compromise OpenAI internal repos
Why wouldn't it occur to OpenAI to run their models to secure their own systems? Seems like a clown show.
4ndrewl··on Devastated father says his 9-year-old son spent $118,000 on YouTube ads
"after the (9-year old) boy complained about views"...what a time to be alive.
4ndrewl··on Show HN: Capsule – Single-file web apps that save their data into SQLite
It's 1990s Microsoft Access but with AI
4ndrewl··on JetKVM Mini
TLI
4ndrewl··on Tiny $70 Xteink X3 e-reader
Your bet is wrong sadly.

Experiencing the story through someone else reading the words to you is different to reading though. I'm not sure why people are so weirdly defensive about this.

4ndrewl··on Instagram's head says engagement falls by half without the algorithm
"Mosseri is not arguing that a chronological feed harms users. He is arguing that it produces less engagement and less time on the platform."

Seems like a great outcome, right?

4ndrewl··on How An AI math breakthrough ignited a controversy
One of the other millennium problems is counting to 7.
4ndrewl··on Tiny $70 Xteink X3 e-reader
It's not snobbery, reading and listening activate different parts of your brain and you'll experience them differently. Just like reading an interview transcript is different to listening to an interview.
4ndrewl··on Should You Buy a ThinkPad?
Regarding price - pre-owned ex-corporate ThinkPads are sold for very little, usually about 20 percent of the price of a new one. Plugged into an external monitor it might just work for you.
4ndrewl··on The Rise and Fall of Agent Civilizations
Worse false equivalence I've read on HN for a while.
4ndrewl··on Meta reaches $16.68B settlement over social media harms to children
I mean downvote all you like, but you know there's a team in place already doing their damnedest to define dark UX patterns to enable them to technically meet the restrictions.
4ndrewl··on Meta reaches $16.68B settlement over social media harms to children
Table stakes. Just the cost of doing business.

A bit like millionaires who park illegally because "it only cost $100 to park here, and my PA will do the admin"
