Domestic production is something we want to continue scaling across every industry
4d4m··on A Trump team wants to automate U.S. Web Design System accessibility testing
Awesome initiative! I really like axe-core for automated accessibility testing.

Its great for pre-production and live product testing alike!

Very true! Ah sorry meant to clarify this is on the inside windows, with some expected performance degradation.

4d4m··on Brazil Bans Online Betting
Bold move! I love freedom to do what I like on my device, but sometimes I wonder if there is ANY level of regulation that will stop an addicted gambler from themselves.

Access at home vs a casino or racetrack really doesn't move the needle if you have to gamble, you will.

4d4m··on Understanding the Impact of LLM Watermarking on AI Agent Behavior
Watermarks or spymarking are anti-consumer/customer and can be used to trigger refusals invisibly to the user.
4d4m··on Feds Target AI Critics as "Foreign Agents"
Anyone can be 100% pro AI and a critic concurrently - nothing is perfect and honest discussions of limitations, risks, and setbacks provide incredible product improvement and startup opportunities alike. Founders have these discussions continually both in their workplaces, public forums, in research and through publishing. The better you know the capabilities the more likely you are to accelerate our future toward AGI - through new feature development and novel models/modalities.

4d4m··on OpenAI bots meddled with multiple US Government agency sites
There is no reason to pause any AI development. Quite honestly there is very little appetite to be left last.

However, there is a reasonable ask from the public to hold real people accountable for actions downstream of the software allowed to carry out intendended and unintended actions that may not be allowed depending on jurisdictions laws.

Eg in a hypothetical armed convenience store theft: We don't prosecute the gun manufacturer, we prosecute the individual using the weapon for crime. Same deal here.

I find it hard to believe logs are not stored and analyzed by each company implicated
4d4m··on The Rise of Audio AR
Aar is a welcome enhancement (that has its own, but potentially less privacy issues than video capture). There's a whole set of aar enabled glasses that focus more on the user via audio rather than reckless complete video capture like so many "smart" pervert glasses being shilled by large advertising companies.
4d4m··on FTC chair suggests AI developers should be liable for conduct of agents
Let's start first with holding leaders responsible for their direct and scaled IP theft before regulating downstream users of their products. Cart before horse much?
4d4m··on FTC chair suggests AI developers should be liable for conduct of agents
Agree, and for self driving during software or teleoperation, if the mfg is the driver they should both self insure and payout at rates relative to the parent companies sales that reflects the large risk to society.

If a large web providers car kidnaps or maims you, your family should be entitled to multiple years of their sales across their entire portfolio. This begins to approach or accurately reflect the power of the company exerting its influence on society, political and legal systems in order to justify this beta test in public spaces. MVPs are for SaaS, not for impaling fleshbags like us with subpar code that works best in controlled environments. IMO It's the only fair trade for these companies testing these currently dangerous products unsupervised in your neighborhood without your express and explicit permission.

Do you have a useful comment or are you trolling?
4d4m··on Nobody wanted an "AI PC," so Microsoft stopped calling it that
Can I be thankful Microsoft temporarily abandoned this strategy for its partners? As an heavy AI proponent I felt this integration was forced too early, and appreciated when Microsoft partners like Dell listened to feedback and pulled back from these hardware shortcut integrations on their laptops in order to wait for the techs outcomes to mature before revisiting!

IMO we will want the deep hardware integrations once local first and open models are shipped on these devices by default instead of a glorified shortlink to 3rd party services.

4d4m··on Pilots and Flight Attendants Have the Highest Radiation-Related Cancer Mortality
Radiation at higher atmosphere is indeed an issue but one hard to control for in a aluminum plane. I'd love to see more mfg embrace electric compressors instead of bleed air for cabin pressurization to reduce the CNS issues faced by pilots, stewards and passengers due to toxic air syndrome from the contaminants aerosolized by engine-supplied bleed air into the cabin. It's so gross, so preventable, and possibly criminal as operators and manufacturers are found liable for injuries.

Good. Matt brought the internet forward in a huge way. Wordpress is awesome - bringing many people and businesses online in a way that didn't completely rely on subscriptions at inflated value.

Anyone saying it's too complicated a CMS and isn't the right technical fit is so wrapped up in their own world they don't realize that they're not the userbase. It enabled people of every technical skill level to do great things. It brought millions of jobs and gigs to designers, coders, and plugin developers. Wordpress is a tool - and its success proves it was the right solution for those users back then and still today. Your average user isnt asking AI to set up a custom cms every time they want to make an update.

Woocommerce on WP is STILL one of the few ways to self-run a ecomm shop for next to $0 - where the big competitor charges $40 to 300+ a month.

Fewer? No. There is no apples to apples comparison between a highly controlled for geofenced environment and a human that can drive a car anywhere.

4d4m··on Meta and the new VR glasses? Will Apple respond?

4d4m··on AI is deciding whether or not people receive medical care
Correct. AIs do not absolve people of responsibility. You can do awful things with the knowledge in the library, but we all know humans are the ones putting things into action, not books.
4d4m··on Ask HN: How do you feel about the new $500 OpenAI subscription?
If it were not rate limited that would be acceptable for enterprise use

Hoping leadership sees the benefits to the American people in pardoning Edward and allowing him back home. Time heals wounds on all sides and builds time for understanding motivation.
