486sx33··on Microsoft continues efforts to convince Win10 users to upgrade to TPM 2.0 PCs
Originally, they promised TPM 2.0 could be added via a card or chip nvme I guess. Then it was motherboard manufacturer specific add on cards. (Like this article talks about https://www.tomshardware.com/news/where-to-buy-tpm-2.0-for-w...)

More recently they just decided you need a new machine entirely (to drive revenue to their oem hardware partners).

One handy thing is - just turn off TPM 2.0 on your modern machines bios and you can keep running windows 10.

I haven’t pulled out in 25 years. What’s the point in sex if you can’t keep going to completion?

They will stop at nothing to steal and spy on what you’re doing to train the models on free data. The models need more data that isn’t copyright. By using windows you consent to … blah blah blah.

What we need is a huge server farm running copilot doing nothing but watching gay porn

486sx33··on America underestimates the difficulty of bringing manufacturing back
Actually I think it’s variation of this. Tariffs can protect high skill jobs with high value product output. They can also force the Chinese to make cheap stuff even cheaper ( back down below $1 goods plus tariffs ).

We don’t want the Chinese making high value goods at slightly lower prices. We want Americans making high value goods and we want to push cheap stuff as cheap as possible. Next step is enforcing environmental rules on Chinese goods and requiring escrow of the funds to pay the Chinese in American accounts until the goods are inspected and pass.

My last free credit monitoring subscription just ran out, which means I havent been a party to a service that’s been hacked for I think 7 years but at least 5 years. I’m going to miss my free equifax credit monitoring emails. Anyone got a recent hack that gave away free equifax I could pretend to be involved with ?

486sx33··on Keystone Pipeline spills estimated 3,500 barrels of crude oil
So about 1/3 of a swimming pool or 5 rail cars worth Not so bad really and safer than rail cars. 150,000 barrels a day gets sent by rail car. Pipelines are certainly the better option. I’d say catching this one and shutting it down was a success story. Too bad Biden killed keystone XL

486sx33··on Amazon's Chinese sellers to raise prices or quit US market as tariffs hit 145%
To all Chinese sellers: you need to eat the cost of the tariffs on your side. Ask your local government comrade official to subsidize your product more.
486sx33··on How to lock down your phone if you're traveling to the U.S.
This is untrue. No one is calling for genocide of Palestinians. They just need to evacuate the rubble caused by hamas and move to safer places
486sx33··on Whistleblower tells senators that Meta undermined U.S. security, interests
Precisely why China needs to be a whole lot less important to the world. Freedom and personal liberty actually are ideologies. They don’t encompass every ideology that doesn’t make sense at all.

I’d say CCP and many other governments like Russia and Ukraine are FAR more corrupt than the US. Your argument really doesn’t make sense.

486sx33··on High tariffs didn't make the U.S. rich in the 19th century. They won't this time
They might bring back some high value manufacturing and good paying jobs though
486sx33··on How much do you think it costs to make a pair of Nike shoes in Asia?
Now they’ll just have to make shoes for $11 or new balance will have to come back to North American manufacturing and make shoes for $40 wholesale

Shipping , customs , duty , port fees , transportation , packaging that can survive across the ocean should all be things that make the product unrealistic to make outside North America, not to mention environmental tariffs that should be applied to products made in Asia.

486sx33··on California now has more EV charging ports than gas nozzles
You’re missing a state of change. California uses coal, natural gas, and nuclear primarily. Nuclear efficiency is low at 33%. Best case you‘re charging your car from a new natural gas plant that is a combined cycle design which can potentially have up to 60% efficacy.

So 60% efficiency, minus 9.2% transmission loss, Minus charging losses and then electric motor efficiency loses… verses directly consuming fuel and putting the power to the wheels.

Electric cars are much less efficient if you consider the entire stream. If you want to use the argument that the gasoline needs to be refined and transported. Well so does natural gas. Or coal, or nuclear fuel rods, or bio mass, etc etc.

I’m not saying electric cars aren’t good. But we should really force people to charge them with solar if we want peak efficiency to save the planet.
