With friend like these who needs enemies.
The American ignorance on this site is really starting to drive me away.
The US just isn't planning things anymore and trying to justify it makes people look silly.
I think it is a good summary of current AI.
* Pretty mind blowing what it can do.
* Very short of what people care about which is complex feature complete software.
I can imagine the horror of trying to apply this to a full blown netcode multiplayer unity project with many scenes 100s of scripts. Complex ordering etc.
But the fact it can setup something like this at all is very cool.
It is really entirely up to each interviewer how the interview goes and they are usually scheduled between 2 other meetings so often the interviewer is distracted.
Very strange system imo, lots of randomness
Make it make sense
I think they used to have their own engine but like everyone else found it unprofitable to maintain.
If we just keep selling the browser market to the next trillion dollar company that's not going to fix anything
The only reason it stopped being the #1 browser is that Chrome came out and was better...
Even though people had to go out of their way to download on all computers
Maybeee the EU but we are talking about an American ruling.
Chrome has just been a better product for the last 10 to 15 years.
Every other company has just failed to make a good browser because they lack the incentives to do so (have gone back and forth as a Firefox user).
The only competitive browsers are those already built on chrome or safari.
I'm not personally a big fan of Safari but it's bigger issue is that it is only available on one platform whereas the web is naturally cross platform.
Almost by definition Safari can't be the "winning" browser.
This feels like ruling that the iPhone is a monopoly in the US and that Apple needs to divest from phones.
Edit: to those replying I 100% don't agree with all the decisions chrome make, very importantly ad block.
But just survey the actual browser market in the last 10 years to understand Chrome's dominance
Feels like Apple doesn't really care about it
It's actually pushing us to improve our economic policies that we've been debating about for years because the country is mostly united.
Getting rid of interprovincial trade barriers is a net good for Canada as is increasing trade diversification.
The US definitely seems like the one set back so far...
What I've described above isn't a theoretical problem, it is an actual occurring issue that has happened time after time.
I don't want to say it's "privileged" but I think you are personally down playing the difficulty these issues raised on specific groups.
If you read the Wikipedia article you will see that minority groups are significantly less likely to have up to date state IDs.
And respectfully anyone without a permanent address can also have a very hard time getting ID.
That point I'm making is that people in these groups will still vote for policies that directly negatively impact their ability to participate in democracy. Not a strawman argument, based on actual voter data.
It could be a part of the larger problem that a decreasing percentage of Americans are even voting at all.
The voterID one for example, people who can vote one election that have otherwise out of date ID will find themselves unable to vote in the next election.
VoterID can be especially tricky in the US due to not having a Nation ID or a federally run election see https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voter_suppression_in_the_Uni... for a good summary.
I would imagine a pretty "rational" perspective would be to be in favor of policies that allow you to vote again in the future (just in general).
Pretty long history in the US of gerrymandering, ID voter laws and reducing voting stations that pretty directly limit people's ability to vote.
I think anger just blocks rational thought.
The American people really need to do something about their current adminstration if they want to maintain a positive relationship with Canada
America is a clown state.
Keep up with platform updates or constantly deal with the afformentioned crawlers and hugs of death.
Started my career as a web developer and always have a soft spot for it but from a hobby developer standpoint hosting and deploying a site feels like an uphill battle with little upside.
Theres a lot to not like about app development but after you get approval for your app it's pretty hands off.
Heck on android you can just distribute the raw APK on a Google drive. Or just keep the app locally for yourself.
I probably have about 20 self made apps on my phone and they each give me a bit of happiness.
(Googler, opinions are my own).
Google is massively international at this point. Especially on the research side.
If you want to collaborate to do things you have to spend a lot of the day in online meetings. Doing this in office honestly just slows things down.
I don't mind a few days in office because Google has really nice offices but it certainly doesn't increase productivity.
Was probably my favorite website, then they decided to start paying people for questions / answers and it all went to shit so incredibly quickly. The site today is completely unrecognizable from it's origins, really sad.
But since over 40 hours is overtime, make it more like pay us 2x as much.
I'm sure some people would consider it then.
But until then stop asking for free work in return for nothing
I had a kid recently and have been putting less into my work, mostly just pushing back on asks and delegating because I don't have time.
All of a sudden I have senior management potential haha.
Feels like I'm living in the movie office space
Google has many issues but I don't think technical competence is one of them.
