3r8riacz··on Poste.io – Complete Mail Server
We use Mailgun as outbound relay for self-hosted email stack, and no more problem with delivery. As a home user you can even stay within the free tier and never pay a dollar for it.
3r8riacz··on Ask HN: What's on your home server?
In the Android app, switch from one player to another, from internal to the web player in the settings. It solves the 5.1 playback issue. (Of course, it introduces others, eg. manual screen brightness but it's not as a big issue as no sound.)
3r8riacz··on Ask HN: What's on your home server?
Wait, what? Was mailcow sold? What does it mean for future development and features? Should we start to look for an alternative?

Try Firefox Beta on Android, it has the about:config enabled for advanced users :)

3r8riacz··on OpenBoard – FOSS Keyboard for Android which respects your privacy
Once you get used to the honeycomb pattern, there is no turning back from Typewise: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.icoaching.w...

It has a free version, too, but the beta users were upgraded to the paid version earlier. Not opensource but doesn't even have access to the net.

3r8riacz··on The beautiful Silent ThunderBolt-3 PC
I've tried several docks and cables with no success until I've found this article: https://www.bigmessowires.com/2019/05/19/explaining-4k-60hz-... The recommended CableMatters dock solved the 4k60Hz issue with USB2.0 pheripherals connected (mouse, kb).
3r8riacz··on Firefox 84.0
It's so sad they needed to disable the popup translation due to some changes by Google
3r8riacz··on Improving DNS Privacy with Oblivious DoH
145 ms response time when DNScrypt is around 10-25 ms, and anonimized DNScrypt is around 2-3x, wow
3r8riacz··on Gitter now speaks Matrix
A simple thing won me over XMPP to Matrix: .well-known domain delegation to use @asd:example.com as username instead of @asd:some.subdomain.example.com while being able to use the subdomain cert for the server instead of the parent domain cert. XMPP only supported SRV delegation which required the parent cert on the virtual (sub)domain.
3r8riacz··on Show HN: Tara – A free Jira alternative, now with Gitlab
Maybe you always use the beta version for free, and only the paid plan will use the fixed production build?
3r8riacz··on Firefox's JIT is getting significantly faster
You need the beta version to access it, but there is an open issue on Github to reenable it in the stable version again.
3r8riacz··on System Hardening in Android 11
The openssh binary to log into hardened remote servers which are not compatible with JuiceSSH or other apps alike.
3r8riacz··on Cross-signing and end-to-end encryption by default
Maybe now it's time to refresh the research papers on Matrix/Riot privacy concerns. After reading these a few months back, I wasn't so sure anymore that Matrix/Riot is what I can wholehartedly trust: https://github.com/libremonde-org/paper-research-privacy-mat...
3r8riacz··on SSH hacks – a little sanity for remote workers
Doesn't ed25519 keys are fixed to 256 in terms of the -b flag, so no need to specify there anything?
3r8riacz··on Speeding up Linux disk encryption
Wow, I'd be so happy if you could share the steps you took to achieve this. Let's say I have a Debian machine, how could I try it out?
3r8riacz··on Show HN: Fraidycat
Minimo (written in Go) is a nice, clean, minimal self-hostable RSS reader that I can recommend trying out, supports importing Feedly exports, too. Works as a progressive web app in fullscreen when added to your Android home screen, no need for a separate app.
3r8riacz··on Let's Encrypt: an automated certificate authority to encrypt the entire web
Wildcats certs are also better for simple privacy by not exposing the other alternative names. In addition, you can have only port 443 open.
3r8riacz··on Firefox 73
A self-hostable Firefox Accounts server + sync server would be great. AFAIK the FXA server is not self-hostable yet, only the sync which leaves a bad taste in owning your privacy.
