31reasons··on The Myth of the Science and Engineering Shortage
What place that be ?
31reasons··on It Is Time For Basic Income
>>In this analogy, where is the plaster coming from? It can't just come from nowhere[0].

Moore's Law, AI , other technological advances. Some bumps are producing way too much paster thats oozing out of the wall boundaries and into the emerging market wall of other countries.

Imagine a time in future when everyone is replaced by robots and no one is "employable" in a traditional sense. What would you do then? The economy is directly linked to the productivity of nations in producing goods and services , it has nothing to do with human effort directly.

31reasons··on It Is Time For Basic Income
Its like applying plaster to an uneven wall. The dents gets filled with plaster but the bumps stays at the same level! Its much better than giving tax breaks since you need income to begin with.
31reasons··on New Oculus Rift dev kit goes on sale for $350 today, likely ships in July
I hope so! I really want to get the Dev Kit but don't want to spend that much money if consumer version is released in just couple of months after that.
31reasons··on New Oculus Rift dev kit goes on sale for $350 today, likely ships in July
Do you guys think the consumer version will launch this year or in 2015 ?
31reasons··on How the Best CEOs Get the Most Out of Every Day
We need more people like you. Some how we are lead to believe that its normal to get a fixed pay check while working uncountable number of hours while giving loyalty for free.
31reasons··on How the Best CEOs Get the Most Out of Every Day
We should never judge someone's productivity by how many hours of "work" they do. Especially not for CEOs. They have all the resources at their finger tips to delegate and automate the tasks. If they are busy frantically responding to emails there is something wrong with their approach.
31reasons··on Show HN: making a $100 marketing animation
Goanimate would have paid for such a post! must be good.
31reasons··on How the Mig-31 repelled the SR-71 Blackbird from Soviet skies

31reasons··on The Dating Ring Is Raising Money To Fly Women From NYC To SF
VCs should be concerned. They are trying to fly in distractions. What if your founder starts wasting time dating women? Shouldn't they be focused on their startups? Startups are on a peninsula for a reason :)
31reasons··on The perovskite lightbulb moment for solar power
I guess you can isolate the cells in a clear glass sandwich.
31reasons··on The Housing Market With Nowhere to Go but Up
Such an irony. People who are creating the mobile future are not embracing the mobility and cramming into one spot.
31reasons··on Poll: Is your startup or side project profitable?
I created my first Ruby on Rails SAAS few years ago. My goal was to earn $5 and call it done. But within 2 hours I made $12 and I was ecstatic. That year I made $2000 from the site. My overall expense was just hosting on Linode and time I took to learn Rails and develop it. I no longer run the business actively as it was very hard to reach the ideal market.

its still there! http://www.residencymail.com

31reasons··on Freescale Shrinks World’s Smallest ARM-Based MCU by 15%
Don't forget the battery, wifi and other electronics needed for fully functional system. It would make the entire device 5 times bigger. But its getting there when the entire system is as small as this.

31reasons··on Can Quiet, Efficient 'Space Elevators' Really Work?
These are all great questions but why do we have to imagine the answers, can we just simulate the damn thing and settle if it would work or not? It seems almost all parameters are known for such simulation except the material used for cable is not invented yet.
31reasons··on By The Time You Give Them a Raise, They’re Already Out The Door
The point is to keep the internal and external incentives in balance as far as compensation/benefits is concerned.
31reasons··on By The Time You Give Them a Raise, They’re Already Out The Door
Good improvement on the idea. People in the higher places (CEOs) do get severance packages, why not developers!
31reasons··on By The Time You Give Them a Raise, They’re Already Out The Door
How about this algorithm ? Whenever someone leaves, present two choices to the team: 1. Divide the salary of the person just left equally among the peers. For example, In the team of 5 developers, Joe was making 100k per year and he left the position. Give $25 raise to each developer in the team. OR 2. Hire new person.

There should be a self-stabilizing compensation system where employee don't have to leave purely on the issue of low compensation.

31reasons··on The Facebook Comment That Ruined a Life
Moral of the story: Not using Facebook is worth at least 10 years of your life and $500k.
31reasons··on Comcast Acquiring Time Warner Cable In All Stock Deal Worth $45.2 Billion
Its time Google provide internet access to the US with their Balloons. I would rather use slow free (neutral) internet than ComcastWarner.
31reasons··on NASA Evidence Reveals Possible Water on Mars
"NASA finds Water on Mars" is what I am looking for until then its the same old.
31reasons··on Massively multiplayer online Flappy Bird
I think in the universe of difficult games, not all frustratingly difficult games would become successful. For example, Mensa puzzle game would not be successful. Its the seemingly simple and stupid nature of it that compels people to try again and again..
31reasons··on John Yudkin: the man who tried to warn us about sugar
Yes, you heard the man with bunch of citations.
31reasons··on John Yudkin: the man who tried to warn us about sugar
>>This is a common myth, but it's wrong.

Stop your nonsense. Its chemistry.

31reasons··on Ask HN: Depressed – To 'Start Up' or Not ,Help
If you are single, you can just quit your job and focus on MVP. There is no excuse to keep working at a job you don't like if you have no other responsibilities. OR Find a job where there is less work (like in government or academia) so you can spend more time on MVP. You don't have to start a Start Up to build something.
