31reasons··on Neural Networks That Describe Images
They are using neural networks so they are never going to confidently say in what situations it will stop working.
31reasons··on Neural Networks That Describe Images
Something doesn't seem right. If we are this good in image recognition, how come we are still using captchas? Are we so good in image recognition that it can identify young girl, bunch of bananas, guitar etc just by training it from an image set of just few thousand image. Whats the catch ? On one hand google says their self-driving car can't understand all the situations on the road while this algorithm can identify so many details from an image like a strong AI would. Feels very strange.

Thanks. Got the answer.

Businesses will push for anything that can make them profit. For these companies Net Neutrality happen to fall into their profit domain so they push for it. But fundamental rights and values should not be up for anyone to debate or lobby. Net Neutrality should be part of the constitution.
31reasons··on The Scientific 7-Minute Workout
Too bad most gyms in my area (Los Angeles!) are not equipped for strong lifts. For example, just one barbell in the whole gym, No dead-lift platform etc. All of them just have machines . The only gyms equipped for Starting Strength / Strong Lifts workouts are Crossfit gyms but they somehow dislike the idea of only using weights. I offered my local Crossfit gym full membership fee just for access to the barbells and they declined.

Just because Kary Mullis is a surfer does that make him a "bro"? He was a proper scientist when he invented PCR. Although he did quit science to manage a bakery for 2 years!
31reasons··on Career planning: Where do old devs go to?
>>75% - one year's experience 30 times, not 30 years experience. You don't want these people.

You are basically saying 75% of the developers after certain age are useless. I don't agree or disagree with your statement . Just startled. What does it say about software development as a career ? Would you say the same thing for lawyers or doctors with 30 years experience? This is depressing.

Many indian government employees don't even work 2 hours a day. This system will definitely help in changing the culture before it becomes an issue.
31reasons··on 40,000 suicides annually, yet America simply shrugs
You need to educate yourself with the science of choice and what happens during depression that changes your ability to make right decisions. Assuming that a depressed person is able to make the right decision is just wrong. How many times did you decide on something and than changed your mind? only this one is irreversible. Depression is curable with right support and medication. There may be few who are hopeless cases but 40000 is a big number and I believe its preventable for good.

You need public money to help innovation but you still need individual's greed to make it happen. Would you spend your entire lifetime building something and you get nothing in return other than pat on your back ?
31reasons··on Total Moving Face Reconstruction
You need to learn some neuroscience buddy. One neuron is not one bit. A neuron works in much complex way than a single bit in a computer. A neuron has hundreds to thousands axons and dendrites and connect with other neurons in a dense network. I am surprised by your knowledge of neuroscience yet attacking me. very strange.

EDIT: As dragonwriter says below, lower levels of neural networks are responsible for general facial recognition but that triggers more specific neurons once the recognition is done from generic face -> specific person. Even in artificial neural networks single bit is sufficient at the end of the classification.

The link is posted above. It is not nonsense. The research was done at Caltech by neuroscientist Christof Koch , one of the top neuroscientists in the world.

Sorry my post evoked such a harsh response from you.

31reasons··on Total Moving Face Reconstruction
I am not sure why the link was down voted. But here is the excerpt from the wiki page:

In 2005, a UCLA and Caltech study found evidence of different cells that fire in response to particular people, such as Bill Clinton or Jennifer Aniston. A neuron for Halle Berry, for example, might respond "to the concept, the abstract entity, of Halle Berry", and would fire not only for images of Halle Berry, but also to the actual name "Halle Berry".

What amazing is that scientists discovered that brain allocates one single neuron fires for each recognized face. For example, You have a one special neuron in your brain that fires when you see Bill Clinton's face. And that exact neuron fires no matter what picture of Bill Clinton you happened to see.

I appreciate you helping here but i would disagree with this statement. This could be a recipe for disaster and lot of mind fuck. Never ever base your self esteem and self worth on how much sex you are getting and from what type of women.

If he only like 5% of the women he meets and 5% women like him in general than actual number of women he needs to meet could be 400 before both like each other. If he goes on a one date per week (the best case scenario, at least in my case) it would take 7.2 years of non stop dating.
