31reasons··on Why women lose the dating game
Arn't dating websites make money from Users who are single ? If the dating service is just too effective, won't they be reducing their customer base? Where else will you find women in her 30s paying $90 per month for years for a hope to get married vs. someone who pays just for one month and gets married.
31reasons··on Why women lose the dating game
"Data from American colleges show 20 per cent of males - the most attractive ones - get 80 per cent of the sex"

damn it..its just like the app store.

31reasons··on JFK’s teen mistress addresses relationship in memoir (2012)
It seems Time Dilation occurs much more rapidly as you travel vertically to power hierarchy than in physics!
31reasons··on SEC moves toward allowing crowdfunding IPOs
The whole limit on how much you can invest looks silly to me. When it comes to investing in high growth startups, government thinks : "Poor people are dumb and we need to protect them from their own mistakes".

Where was this rule when greedy banks sold them expensive mortgages ?

31reasons··on 37signals Works Remotely [video]
Can we build a list of Companies that have more than 50% of their workforce working remotely ?
31reasons··on Ask HN: Do rich kids learn programming?
I believe they do as long as it makes them understand the world and business they are in, not for becoming a programmer unless thats what they want to do.
31reasons··on Poll: Freelance developers in London, how much do you charge per hour?
What about the competition from other developers that are willing to work for low rates ?

Then why we haven't cured cancer yet or malaria or global warming or psychological disorders ? There are a lot of smart people in the world but we really can't afford to work on silly things.
31reasons··on Cockroach farms multiplying in China
I don't know how common my sentiment is, but I would stay the hell away from anything related to insects for purely psychological reasons.
31reasons··on Why It's So Difficult to Climb Amazon's Corporate Ladder
Reading stories like these make me sick to my stomach and stay away from big corps.
31reasons··on iOS 7 “activation required” error on iPhone and iPad
It can always give a gentle warning before locking people out.
31reasons··on iOS 7 “activation required” error on iPhone and iPad
Did anyone find this extremely rude. I was suddenly locked out of my own hardware for which I paid hundreds of dollars. I stopped receiving calls in the middle of the day. Why do they have to treat people who installed beta like they are criminals on a parole. Where is the magic Apple ?
31reasons··on Ask HN: What's the best marketing effort for $1000?
- Make it free. Seriously there is no other way to enter the market unless you have ton of money to burn.

- Have in app purchases.

- Facebook Ads. First test out multiple versions of ads for Facebook and see which one gives you best results and then spend more money on it.

31reasons··on Launching your project to the world? Try these sites to get the word out
Pardon my ignorance but I see most of the suggested links from tech news/blog sites. But unless your customers are entrepreneurs and tech readers, shouldn't you launch where your customers are ? (which could be any aggregation website from farming, medicine or any other subject matter)
31reasons··on Feds: Silk Road boss paid $80,000 for snitch’s torture and murder
I think the whole story will have serious consequences for the poor BitCoin.

Great idea.
31reasons··on California’s $327 million web site in operation
Mine as well. Seems pretty lucrative.
31reasons··on Ask HN: What are the New Computing Ideas for the next 50 years?
My take on it:

1. Optical brain computer interfaces will make accessing the internet at the speed of thought. Internet will truly be integrated as another mind that we all share. Some people will even rent their subconscious neural networks for the global brain.

2. Polymorphic hardware that will change its architecture to speed up applications.

3. Programming languages with NLP and AI help developers with rapid prototyping.

4. Long term computing: Computers that can run for millions of years without much intervention in space.

31reasons··on Ask HN: Providing accommodation to employees?
The link pretty much answers my question! Thanks.
31reasons··on Ask HN: Providing accommodation to employees?
So yes Tax benefits for most engineers are pretty much off the table. I am more interested in seeing Accommodation as part of the Job Benefits. I am willing to take 10-20% less salary than other employees if I am provided accommodation by the Company. It could become a win-win situation if companies can write off accommodation as expenses.
31reasons··on The Faces of Facebook – Visualizing 1.2 billion Facebook profile images
Its not "Visualizing". Its called fetching random images.
31reasons··on In what areas are the massive fortunes of the future going to be made?
You are absolutely right. 40 hours/week is the standard that was set more than 100 years ago and is long due for an update. As long as there are groups of people competing against each other to get the bigger part of the pie, it will continue this way until there is a big movement similar to the following:

From wiki:

"The eight-hour day movement or 40-hour week movement, also known as the short-time movement, had its origins in the Industrial Revolution in Britain, where industrial production in large factories transformed working life. The use of child labour was common. The working day could range from 10 to 16 hours for six days a week"

We now need a 4-hour day movement. :)

31reasons··on In what areas are the massive fortunes of the future going to be made?
"Tiny Farms is the edible insect company" Future is here. First Soylent and now this. FTW!
31reasons··on In what areas are the massive fortunes of the future going to be made?
Space, Robotics, Desktop Manufacturing, Augmented Reality
31reasons··on What Clayton Christensen got wrong
I think Christensen's statements on both iPod and iPhone stems from theories and sweeping generalizations on how technology field works. But with Apple, the devil is in the details. His argument is not taking into considerations things such as

1. Control of the supply chains so that other players can't get their hands on similar hardware.

2. Singularity of Taste coming from Jobs and Ive that blended with the hardware.

3. Software, that is very hard to replicate without years of effort.

The lesson is, theories are theories and Christensen is not god.

31reasons··on So I've envisioned a phone app - how to find coder?
I was just checking project estimates on gun.io, they don't seem to be any higher than freelancer or odesk (e.g $1000 for an iphone app) especially if they are looking for "expert hackers"
31reasons··on Pushed to the limit as a banking intern
Its technically possible, all you have to do is put sleep in your task list.
31reasons··on Pushed to the limit as a banking intern
I somehow feel that when your company is growing 1000% a week and you have lot of equity in that company, somehow you find strength to work that many hours without breaking sweat. I believe thats more enjoyable experience than just work.
