The article:
> Last week, the Justice Department instructed “citizens and noncitizens” that anyone furthering the “goals” of a foreign power in “any public activity” — including even “public demonstrations” — must formally notify the government to avoid arrest and prosecution.
The DoJ:
>“If a person acts as an agent of any foreign power to carry out any public activity, including (but not limited to) public demonstrations designed to further the propaganda or other goals of the foreign power, he or she must register with or notify the appropriate federal authorities”
Incidentally, I can't place it, but Minecraft is an infinitely more enjoyable hangout and break/build stuff game than NMS. NMS is just very sterile to me.
I think this is the core of the 'moral panic'. it isn't anti-AI, it's the fact that many AI datacenter builders have been somewhere between surreptitious and intentionally illegal in their avoidance public knowledge of what they are doing, most likely to avoid exactly the regulation you're recommending. As a result, there's now categorical public distrust of both the industry and the local government that has shirked their obligation to the public welfare.
It is reasonable to conclude that you don't act as secretively as these builders have unless you have something to hide.
This is a mischaracterization. The niche isn't Android hobbyists, it's people with what should be a basic expectation for privacy. I wouldn't flash GOS or any other OS if I could safely avoid it.
Managers never got to write and internalize every line of code anyway. Arguably their essential skill is producing useful stuff without needing to do so. So is that 'cognitive debt'? When I use an agent to code, I do the same things: I validate the direction, organization, and core decisions, but delegate the details. It's an intentional calculation of risk, managing the scope of future problems if there's a failure of implementation somewhere.
It's a question of where you put the value of cognitive focus. I don't understand 'line by line' how my car's ICE works, even though it will likely impact me at some point, because while I might be able to fix it myself if it breaks, the likely applied solution will be to delegate that work anyway.
A quarter of the country lives on less than $34k a year. I bet that would shock some people into changing their definition of what is 'shitty'.
Then you would have been a supporting member, and had the opportunity to vote on this decision.
A language interface doesn't need a personality any more than a visual interface does. For most professional work, source data isn't written in the first person. Ego is an imposed product feature that wastes energy. What would the purpose of diverse personalities be? I want models as tools, not friends.
While I appreciate the sentiment of physical books, I simply don't have the physical space for my book collection, and it seemed frivolous to make that a meaningful requirement of my living space. On top of that, my reading-distance eyesight has started to go, and it's so much simpler to bump the text on a book-sized reader than it is to manage reading glasses.
I never realized there is no independent governance org that should have registered this. So AT is governed by a single for-profit entity, that also runs the only viable instance?
This doesn't really sound like doubting any claim; he's talking about how his organization was approaching it given their limited resources.
