1727706962··on OpenRA – Classic strategy games rebuilt for the modern era
I've just finished both campaigns (and moving on to Firestorm!) on my M1 Macbook by running the game through https://www.portingkit.com/ .

It guides you through installation and wraps the game in Wine and other layers as its own .Application for running on arm or intel macs. Porting Kit has bespoke configurations for compatible games.

Also see https://github.com/Kegworks-App/Kegworks (formerly Wineskin, the upstream tech leveraged by Porting Kit without the bespoke angle) which i've used for various modern games to great effect.

1727706962··on MagiskSSH – SSH server on Android without Termux
Not OP but personally

- Always available over my network/wireguard without touching the phone or a cable. Wireless ADB over a tcp socket technically works but requires a USB cable to bootstrap when you use the phone as a hotspot like I do, nor would I dare open it up to the internet.

- Any number of SFTP clients rather than the limited ADB options

- Higher throughput than wired ADB (at least on my Pixel 6A over USB)

- I want ssh access to my termux environment anyway so may as well use it for file transfers too.

I only really use adb for app development, maybe the odd nslookup or android package management with `pm`

1727706962··on Google's AI weather prediction model is pretty darn good
Looks like it was a forward prediction.

From the linked article:

> GenCast is a machine learning weather prediction model trained on weather data from 1979 to 2018

and a google blog https://deepmind.google/discover/blog/gencast-predicts-weath...

> To rigorously evaluate GenCast's performance, we trained it on historical weather data up to 2018, and tested it on data from 2019

1727706962··on Disable-devtool: Disable web developer tools
I was confused by ineffectual demo page - turns out uBlock Origin Lite includes filters thwarting this.
1727706962··on Show HN: A macOS app to prevent sound quality degradation on AirPods
That's exactly what I do - An aggregate device (called 'Forced Onboard Mic') with only 'MacBook Pro Microphone' selected.

This is configured from 'Audio MIDI Setup.app'

Apps configured to use that as their input device then don't reconfigure themselves whenever a Bluetooth input device shows up.

I dont add output devices as I'm happy for that to flip between speakers/headphones - whatever is available.
