Indians are fiercely proud of their space program, which is in opinion a wonderful feat in terms of technology. Their main objective is to use it for Indian interests, like Oceans, weather and defence etc. They've no interest in pursuing extra business, if it comes at the cost of bowing down to US stipulations. They're getting nice business from many countries in the world like Germany, France, African nations etc.
Source : I've read "Wings of fire" by APJ Kalam, which gives an interesting insiders view into ISRO/DRDO.
Also by paying less than blue card limit, the devs are basically tied to VisualMeta. Most of the devs don't know German system well and thus are being taken advantage of.
They fired about 60-70 people recently, some of them on their first day of work. Most of their devs come from non-existent countries (China/Eritrea/Pakistan etc) and they're paid abysmally (€32-34k).
It's a surprise that this news wasn't covered at all in Berlin start-up press.
Nowhere does the poster imply that it's a bad thing or tend to dismiss English people as lesser mortals. It's just a matter of fact comment and is a barrier for him to socialize.
> Imperial Rome was a dim backwater by comparison.
And it was, by comparison. Why do people have the audacity to think that Rome alone was greater in all aspects than the collective synergy of Persia, India, China, Swahili Coast etc? These regions were in extensive trade and cultural contacts and the cold hard truth is we Europeans were not a central part of that scheme. That's why Asians devised decimal system, paper currency, and wooden block printing, compass, and other ground-breaking inventions, due to its sheer vibrancy.
I Read the article and I understand that it's flawed in some parts. However, that's exactly how the non-western major world civilisations are called. Barbarians, mysticals and unscientific etc are the words used to describe them. I would urge you to look past the eurocenticism as I did and you'll discover that there's truth in the facts.
If we leave out the mislabeling of images, the fact remains that the eastern world was in fact more connected, advanced and globalised compared to Rome.
Unless FB weeds out the spammers and the harassing, this is just another way to make quick bucks for FB.
I understand Big4 doing this as they're bombarded by resumés, but the problem starts when mom'n Pop CRuD shops start aping these blindly.
I recently interviewed for a position at a small Amsterdam based company. They simply asked me to work with them and refactor a part of their code base. It was really interesting and frankly, we all had lots of fun during the 3-4 hour process.
Coming from the USA, it was eye opening to see the ingenuity of this simple way to determine candidates ability. It's such a shame that Stack ranking like HackerRank are being favoured instead of on-job evaluation.
This is great news for us Mobile C++ developers who don't have alternative to SQLite.
You just made my day :-)
