111111101101··on Fark.com's live thread during the Sept. 11 attacks
Social media existed back then it just wasn't called that. It was mainly done over email, IRC and instant messaging software.

> is only effective with good targeting to the fitting users

This isn't true in my experience. When I was an affiliate marketer in a past life, it was extremely profitable to promote health and fitness products on generic search terms such as "basketball" and "football scores". User demographic data wasn't required.

Unfortunately, Google decided that they don't like affiliate marketers.

111111101101··on I Reached $4k/Mo. But How Many Great Startup Ideas Have Died?
I've found that whenever I've shared my ideas with friends or family, they default to poking holes in them. Instead of looking for reasons why it could work they start listing obvious problems that I've already considered. Things like "You would have to get insurance" or my personal favorite "if it were that easy then everyone would be doing it." Because of this, I learned long ago not to share any of my projects or ideas with anyone.

The flip-side is that when I started to have some success, those same people who would always be so negative became angry with me. After his first time visiting my new home one guy even picked a fistfight with me and I've picked up that several family members have been running me down behind my back.

Many working-class people are prone to envy but at the same time they underestimate their own potential. It's best not to worry about them.

> The only explanation is that he is dead.

He might be dead but someone has control of his keys & logins as they used his accounts to defend Dorian Nakamoto.

111111101101··on De-anonymizing ransomware domains on the dark web
You have to be a certain level of stupid to attempt these crimes, especially when you're up against such powerful nation-state adversaries. Stupid probably isn't the right word though. Lazy and arrogant might be more accurate.
111111101101··on Ask HN: What do you use VMs for regularly?
Thousands of different items that I import from China. I've got a lot of money invested in inventory so I can't risk having my business shutdown by eBay's algorithm or $2/h "service" team again. eBay stealth OPSEC is the only way to have any sort of job security in this game.
111111101101··on Ask HN: What do you use VMs for regularly?
I've been banned from selling on eBay and I get around it by having multiple Windows 10 VMs (running on proxmox) with 4G USB dongles passed through to each machine. It keeps everything tidy with no chance of me ever making a mistake and getting found out.
111111101101··on Bitcoin Falls Below $20k for the First Time Since 2020
It's sour grapes. I first heard of bitcoin in a HN post 11 or so years ago and I'm still kicking myself for not mining a few thousand then. "Nice idea but it wont succeed" were my thoughts...
111111101101··on Bitcoin Falls Below $20k for the First Time Since 2020
Tell that to Ross Ulbricht...
111111101101··on $3B in Bitcoin was sold in a last-ditch attempt to save UST from collapse
This isn't true at all. For the current expected payouts see the calculator at https://www.ozcoin.com.au
111111101101··on 100% LHR unlock at NiceHash? It’s here
Nvidia's LHR limitation has now been unlocked for everyone. Good luck buying a new GPU anytime soon ;)
111111101101··on The bottom is dropping out of Netflix
> But very repetitive and production line, with no passion projects, nothing too arty or quirky, nothing outside of the box, no surprises.

I'm getting the feeling that Apple TV+ is where it's at for this type of content. Severance was particularly good.

111111101101··on Musk announces funding secured for Twitter buy
Genius doesn't need publicity. Its influence is inevitable.
111111101101··on Musk announces funding secured for Twitter buy
> It's conceivable that TSLA shareholders could interpret Elon Musk acquiring more political influence as good for TSLA

For that they would have to see through Musk's grift. Most retail TSLA holders are Musketeers and they truly believe that he is a visionary genius. To them, fluff like Twitter doesn't matter when they have the real life Tony Stark at the helm.
