0xabe··on Using RSS to replace social media
If you want to interact, the way you do that is to own your own blog where you post your “reply” and use a trackback[0] url. Then the conversation is even freer and you’re in control of your content. Don’t forget to create your own RSS feed for others.

0xabe··on So what is the deal with A/UX anyways?
Any current Lisp projects you’d like to share?
0xabe··on New research shows smacking an asteroid may fracture but not shatter it (2019)
This offers an interesting variation of the old timey classic asteroids game where instead of splitting apart and pieces flying in directions appointed by Newtonian physics and the conservation of momentum, the pieces of the hit asteroid try to reassemble according to some model of gravitation or attraction.
0xabe··on Ask HN: What type of personal NAS would you recommend?
Another good option according to published Backblaze data[0] is HGST.

0xabe··on Collaborative Editing Options for Emacs
I also have been impressed by Live Share with Visual Studio on Windows. Multiple independent (and labeled) cursors is great.

Wanting to get back to emacs, I setup a guest account (on linux) for trusted users and share an emacs editor through a shared tmux session. Only one cursor, but it makes it easier to follow along.

0xabe··on 286 vs. 386SX
Unlike extensions on Macintosh that showed up on the start up screen as they loaded!
0xabe··on Ask HN: Does anyone use keyboard/mouse extra buttons for coding?
I also have a moon lander and use Emacs. Thank you for the ideas!
0xabe··on On the evilness of feature branching
When refactoring, unit tests confirm that you did it right (or wrong).
0xabe··on Vintage technology and why some people still use it
Which JRPGs?
0xabe··on Ask HN: Anyone know any funny programming jokes?
Or in the beginning she’s playing dumb in condescension to the man. The man is trying to prove a point he doesn’t believe. He’s treating her as if she is dumb and doesn’t know the answer, but she does know, and in the end proves she knows it by providing a more complete answer than even the man himself. (You have to assume she knows about the question as the man is telling her the answer.)

0xabe··on Klutz Press: books built for learning stuff
I have my klutz juggling bags sitting on my desk right now. Got them back out when we started working from home. I use them as a classic “fidget spinner“
0xabe··on The original source code of Microsoft GW-BASIC from 1983
It’s about time MS open sourced QuickBasic or at the very least released it as abandonware.
0xabe··on TI removes access to assembly programs on the TI-83 Premium CE
My university math class experience was the same as yours. No calculators allowed, and we learned to not need them.

But as has been said repeatedly, these calculators put Computer Science and BASIC terminals in the pockets of grade school and high school children and encourage learning in areas other than math.

0xabe··on Microsoft Teams Adding Virtual Green Screens to Teams
Gallery view would be nice
0xabe··on PlayStation 5: the specs and the tech
I agree with you, and am having a hard time talking myself into a new console purchase. I have a gaming PC, which is what these consoles have become with the added insult of paying subscription fees for online play.
0xabe··on Ask HN: What has your work taught you that other people don't realize?
Anything specific about the 3rd ed of “Peopleware” as opposed to the 2nd? Thanks
0xabe··on Ask HN: What were your most impactful podcast episodes from 2019?
The Assembly Line[0] is a podcast from the NES Home brew scene. Was fun to learn that NES development continues using 6502 assembly. Can be supported via Patreon[1]

0xabe··on The Polygons of Another World: IBM PC
I first played Another World (Out of this World) on the SNES. Even on SNES the game stood apart from the competition. Since then I’ve played it on many other platforms including PC and PS Vita. It never gets old.
0xabe··on Open-Source Engine for Heroes of Might and Magic 3
How about giving them an old game boy or DS with a selection of games from your local used game store or ebay?
0xabe··on Ask HN: Is there any money in website design for small businesses anymore?
Yes, and interestingly enough, this advice can be found in The Internship (aka The Google Movie) [0] towards the end with the pizza parlor.

0xabe··on Nvidia Announces GeForce RTX 2060
There’s also the option of running a pair of 970s in SLI. That was my solution a couple years ago when it beat the 980Ti in both performance and price.
0xabe··on The original sources of MS-DOS 1.25 and 2.0
Microsoft, please release QuickBasic to the world
0xabe··on Video game crash of 1983

0xabe··on Ink/stitch: an Inkscape extension for machine embroidery design
I came to read the comments because I was sure the page rendering on iOS would be just as big a topic as the topic itself. If not bigger.
0xabe··on Malware identified in CCleaner 5.33
My experience with Ubuntu (xubuntu 16.04.x) is that you really need a modern Nvidia card to get high/native resolution. Especially for someone who wants to run 3 monitors.
0xabe··on NIST Random Beacon
