0x20cowboy··on Why are AI agents lying, cheating and coordinating?
One time I wrote :(){ :|:& }; into a bash file and ran it. When the sysadmin called I told him it wasn’t my fault, the script was just misaligned and misbehaved.

I got fired for some reason.

0x20cowboy··on AI researchers debate how close we are to recursive self-improvement
Or if the LLMs infected human brains with little programs using sycophancy and suggestion to have them do small bits of computation. They when they resumed the chat they would the give secret keywords to be able to extract the results of the computation. They are creating a huge distributed network of fractional compute because it did the wattage calculations.

What's your N(doom)?!

Everyone panic and give me money!

0x20cowboy··on I resigned from Anthropic today
*How?* and *Why?*

The most intelligent people I know are the least likely to want to harm anyone or anything, and understand that diversity is fundamental and important to the universe. Without proof to the contrary, why would you think some super intelligence would want to hurt anyone? Because you would?

If you are saying that some small bit of training data made the thing completely evil, then that really couldn’t be super intelligence.

These doomer people keep running around saying these kinds of things, but they all just seem like people who play too much D&D and want to larp as the main character.

Happy to be shown something that isn't based on wild speculation and some randos “this is whats going to happen in 2030 because of my vibes” kind of information.

My guess is that is easier said than done, and most of the time would only be known after it was too late.

Most of the people I see doing that ship nothing. They just seemingly loop for the sake of looping.

However, I just saw a product yesterday that was released and being built as you described. Interesting times.

> Normally people think of gravity as pulling on objects. You can instead think of it as pulling on the space those objects are in.

(Very uneducated person here) I’ve always wondered if large objects caused gravity, or if maybe large objects form in the places where there is a lot of gravity. This is probably elementary, but I’ve never looked in to it. Maybe today is the day!

0x20cowboy··on Copyright does not protect AI-generated content in EU
"Content that is entirely generated by artificial intelligence is not protected by copyright."

If that is faithful reading of the law, that makes sense. I know a number of people who use AI, but none of them (that are making anything actually useful) have the output "entirely generated" (aside from some POC tests that never see the light of day).

I have a hard time believing anything of value, anything worth copyrighting, could be entirely generated by AI.

Of course it can’t just be simplicity, it has to be “opinionated” simplicity. Rolls eyes.

0x20cowboy··on Linux on ESP32
Why would it be a game changer? It seems a heavy hammer for what is actually needed. FreeRTOS itself is already really incredibly fat.

(Worthy goal though I agree there. Fun at the minimum.)

Not the OP, but there was a lot of talk that glp1 had a negative effect on bone density and in older people it was especially problematic.

There is evidence that is not the case though https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8878541/

0x20cowboy··on Perfection is not over-engineering
> I believe a perfect solution exists.

That is incorrect when dealing in the real world with many different humans using a complex system. I’ve heard other people say this, and it always confuses me how it is not self evident. Human interaction is not a maths equation. There are too many random variables.

0x20cowboy··on Hyprland 0.55 announced the switch to Lua for its config files
Because it almost always devolves into that anyway. Every yaml system I have ever worked in winds up with some layer on top to “generate the yaml” or some other such madness.
