0m1cr0n··on How many people have ever lived on Earth?
I think this is a case where an average value cloaks the distribution. Consider very high infant and childhood mortality rates, and how that might skew the average value.
0m1cr0n··on How to Add DNS Filtering to Your NAT Instance with Squid (2016)
When you set up an AWS EC2 instance (hosts the Squid server) you create "Security Groups" -- effectively a virtual firewall. So unless the instance operator configures an inbound 0.0.0.0 "accept" rule, it will probably be filtered to only accept connections from other instances in your VPC.

I think what you're describing is a "scamble" crosswalk.

They're a nice way of balancing foot traffic with the need for vehicles to turn at a light. I'm not sure why they're not more popular around the world.

0m1cr0n··on Parental Control for iOS (my weekend project)
The whole "profile" and "mobileconfig" nomenclature is confusing to most people, I'm a little surprised that Apple hasn't put more effort into this area.

Sorry if I came across as damning you with faint praise, you really have done a nice job of setting up the service for non-technically minded people who want to keep their kids safe online.

I can't find any reference to your privacy policy or terms of service. You appear to use a unique string to identify profiles, what are you doing with the data you collect?

0m1cr0n··on Parental Control for iOS (my weekend project)
The site generates a .mobileconfig file, which is an Apple plist file in XML format. The API is public, and easily reverse-engineered from other .mobileconfig files.

The "app" that gets installed is actually a webclip, not a native iOS application. They embedded the icon as a base64 string inside the .mobileconfig.

The webclip opens mobile Safari in fullscreen, with a link in the format of "http://mocava.de/ios/parental-control/profiles/UNIQUE_ID/par..., where UNIQUE_ID ties back to the choices you made on the setup screen of their website. This will allow Mocava to track usage stats, which seems like a fair trade-off for a free service.

You could roll your own version of this using Apple's Configurator application, however Mocava has done a decent job of streamlining the setup and installation.

0m1cr0n··on Valid Credit Card Number Generator for Testing Purposes
Even if an in-use credit card number is generated, you would still need the name, expiration date and cvv2 to complete most online purchases. Depending on the vendor, you may also require the billing address of the cardholder.

It's somewhat unlikely that this tool will generate many "real" account numbers, as the Bank Identification Number field is being randomly generated as well. These account numbers only satisfy the Luhn check for validity.

You might find these links interesting, they explain credit card data in depth:

0m1cr0n··on Canada denied me a visitors visa because I am too poor
It appears to be the only type of visa a Jamaican can apply for, whether it be to visit or transit through Canada:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas.asp

It's a remarkably long list of countries that Canada requires a visa for.

I suspect it's an attempt to reduce the number of refugee claims Canada receives -- this is NOT to imply that Mr. Gayle would claim refugee status.

A visa requirement was enacted in 2009 for Mexican nationals to visit Canada to cut down on refugee claims, and they're a NAFTA partner.
