Because Flat-Earthers are valid and we should allow their input into a world where microwave ovens can be electronically hacked from a world away and where Kim Kardashian is the bee's knees.

I am all for the "wisdom of the ancients", but I wish more folks were willing and able to find a new, better solution than a Baskin & Robbins variation of anything ago. Meaning Libertarianism and Social-Anarchism and anything else that looks great on paper only in the Cliffs Notes version. Vanilla is vanilla, and the world is falling the fuck apart already no matter how many college juniors praise Chomsky. Outside the box or walk.

People are willing to find a better solution, but they aren't able. The magna carta, despite being 800 years old, is still the best example of signing away the right of kings in favour of democratic government by the people.

To be honest though, it'd be hard to get a better example without returning a king to the throne first, and that's unlikely.

Arbitrary power comes in many forms and doesn't just require a monarch. The powerful can "influence" now even if they can't explicitly "command" as they could 800 years ago.
