The logical extension of that is that we should all expect him to tell the public all the same things he tells his wife..

I suspect it is one of those ideas that would fall apart very quickly if he was actually put in a position where he was called out on it every time he himself demonstrated such supposed lack of integrity.

To me it indicates he'd never seriously thought about how people actually interact, and that's quite scary.
