Now that BIND has been removed from the base system [1], what DNS server is FreeBSD shipping with (if any)?

FreeBSD is not shipping any DNS servers, there is a recursive DNS resolver available in the way of unbound.

If you want a DNS server you may of course install one of your choosing from the pkg repository. I would recommend NSD if you are familiar with BIND.

Thanks, I guess I'm used to OpenBSD's model of including these major components in the base system.

Unbound is in now included in the base system as BIND's replacement.

Thanks!
