My biggest disappointment, they announced a product they cannot ship. I remember the good old days, ITS AVAILABLE TODAY. Now Apple is nothing than just what they used to lampoon, a creator of announcements; not products.

Perhaps we can hope they use the time to take the obvious feedback flowing in and make it right by launch

This stymies people considering buying competitor watches for this Christmas season, which is the big reason to pre-announce.

You mean like the iPhone, which was announced at Macworld in January, 2007 and went on sale only 7 months later?

You have an impossibly selective memory. The iPhone was announced 6 months before it shipped, for example.

Your entire comment is premised on a falsehood.

Eh, for the most part they're pretty good about releasing quickly after announcing, but that's because they've been producing the product in question for months overseas. In the case of the watch, clearly they didn't want any leaks and therefore they haven't started production yet.
