IBM just did massive layoffs in hardware. I used to visit essex junction plant a bunch and they had a lot of layoffs there. I don't know how much commitment Management there has toward hardware.
There is probably more interest in developing the technology and then licensing it. It seems like IBM doesn't want to be in the hardware market unless it's high margin.
